        What Is Integrative Medicine?

        The demand for complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasing worldwide. High-technology medicine is not always effective and is often accompanied by neglected self-care and high cost. Also, conventional medicine has become dependent on expensive technological solutions to health problems. Integrated medicine is not simply a synonym for complementary medicine. It involves the understanding of the interaction of the mind, body, and spirit and how to interpret this relationship in the dynamics of health and disease. Integrative medicine shifts the orientation of the medical practice from a disease-based approach to a healingbased approach. In South Korea, CAM education was first provided 20 years ago, and integrative medicine is becoming part of the current mainstream medicine. Increasing numbers of fellowships in integrative medicine are being offered in many academic health centers in the U.S. Also, it has emerged as a potential solution to the American healthcare crisis and chronic diseases, which are bankrupting the economy. It provides care that is patient-centered, healing-oriented, emphasizes the therapeutic relationship, and uses therapeutic approaches originating from conventional and alternative medicine.

      • 디자인 전략에 있어서 패밀리 룩 전략은 만능인가?

        이 연구는 스키마의 (불)일치가 평가에 미치는 영향의 결과가 혼재되는 선행연구 결과에서 과연 자동차 산업에서의 디자인 전략과 브랜드 전략과의 스키마 (불)일치가 소비자 태도 평가에는 어떠한 영향을 미칠 것인가를 분석하는 것이다. 이전의 연구를 살펴보면 이전의 스키마, 범주와 완벽한 일치, 극도로 불일치하는 정보 보다는 적당한 불일치하는 정보가 더 평가에 호의적인 결과를 준다고 하였다. 이유는 완벽한 일치 또는 불일치는 인지적 정교화를 하지 않거나, 할 필요가 없다고 생각해서 평가에 호의적인 반응을 보이지 않지만, 적당한 불일치는 적당한 수준의 인지적 정교화 과정을 이끌기 때문에 호의적인 평가를 한다고 하였다. 이 연구는 디자인 전략과 브랜드 전략의 스키마 (불)일치에 따른 실험을 하기 위해서 2세트의 자동차를 만들어서 패밀리 룩이 있는가에 사전 조사를 하여 자동차를 선정하여 실험을 진행하였다. 전체적으로 디자인 전략과 브랜드 전략의 스키마 일치가 소비자의 태도 평가에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 것이라고 기대한 대로 결과 또한 일치할 때가 불일치 할 때 보다 더 호의적인 평가를 받았다. 그리고 (불)일치에 있어서 패밀리 룩이 존재하는 세트가 존재하지 않는 세트보다 더 호의적인 평가를 받았으며, 자동차의 크기에 따른 준중형, 중형, 대형에서도 호의적인 평가의 크기는 차이가 있었지만 동일한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. There were various preceding studies on the impact of the product information based on categorization theory and the existing consistency/inconsistency among schema on the consumers" information processing and evaluation(Aggarwal and Mcgill, 2007; Meylers-Levy and Sternthal, 1993; Meylers-Levy and Tybout, 1989; Susan, 1982; Fiske and Taylor, 1984; Fiske and Susan, 1982; Mandler, 1982). Until now, the study on evaluation of consistency/inconsistency of schema showed mixed results. As stated in preceding studies, the Schema theory was adopted to analyze the attitude and evaluation on the product according to the level of consistency/inconsistency of the information and consumers" cognitive structure. According to the Schema theory, consumers accept or deny the newly exposed information by their own schema, and perceive the object of the information. In this study, the preceding studies which show mixed results that appropriate level of inconsistency can lead to a more favorable evaluation, rather than extreme inconsistency or complete consistency argued by Meyers-Levy and Tybout(1989), along with Aggarwal and Mcgill(2007)"s study on the consistency was observed, due to various relationship between the inconsistency and consistency and evaluation of schema. During the cognitive categorization, it was approached with theoretical aspects of information processing procedure. Since it was considered that when consumers contacted an information which was consistent with companies" brand strategy and family-look design, the evaluation of cars will differ. The hypothesis that consumers will evaluate more positively on the consistency of companies’brand strategy and family-look design were set and tests were conducted. After testing consumers with mid-sized cars, the hypothesis that consumers will evaluate more positively on the consistency of companies’brand strategy and familylook design was proved, when the mobile industry introduced their new models. When conducting the same test on small-to-mid sized and large cars to generalize the tes results on mid-sized cars, the consumers" evaluation showed the same results, but there were quantitative differences in terms of preference according to the size of the car.

        InGaP/GaAs 이중접합 기반의 고효율 플렉시블 태양전지 제조기술 연구

        III-V compound semiconductor based thin film solar cells promise relatively higher power conversion efficiencies and better device reliability. In general, the thin film III-V solar cells are fabricated by an epitaxial lift-off process, which requires an AlxGa1-xAs (x≥0.8) sacrificial layer and an inverted solar cell structure. However, the device performance of the inversely grown solar cell could be degraded due to the different internal diffusion conditions. In this study, InGaP/GaAs double-junction solar cells are inversely grown by MOCVD on GaAs (100) substrates. The thickness of the GaAs base layer is reduced to minimize the thermal budget during the growth. A wide band gap p-AlGaAs/n-InGaP tunnel junction structure is employed to connect the two subcells with minimal electrical loss. The solar cell structures are transferred on to thin metal films formed by Au electroplating. An AlAs layer with a thickness of 20 nm is used as a sacrificial layer, which is removed by a HF:Acetone (1:1) solution during the epitaxial lift-off process. As a result, the flexible InGaP/GaAs solar cell was fabricated successfully with an efficiency of 27.79% under AM1.5G illumination. The efficiency was kept at almost the same value after bending tests of 1,000 cycles with a radius of curvature of 10 mm.

        Spatiotemporal Analysis of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Incidence and Survival Outcomes in Korea (2009–2021)

        Background: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a major public health concern in Korea. Identifying spatiotemporal patterns of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest incidence and survival outcomes is crucial for effective resource allocation and targeted interventions. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the spatiotemporal epidemiology of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Korea, with a focus on identifying high-risk areas and populations and examining factors associated with prehospital outcomes. Methods: We conducted this population-based observational study using data from the Korean out-of-hospital cardiac arrest registry from January 2009 to December 2021. Using a Bayesian spatiotemporal model based on the Integrated Nested Laplace Approximation, we calculated the standardized incidence ratio and assessed the relative risk to compare the spatial and temporal distributions over time. The primary outcome was out-ofhospital cardiac arrest incidence, and the secondary outcomes included prehospital return of spontaneous circulation, survival to hospital admission and discharge, and good neurological outcomes. Results: Although the number of cases increased over time, the spatiotemporal analysis exhibited a discernible temporal pattern in the standardized incidence ratio of out-ofhospital cardiac arrest with a gradual decline over time (1.07; 95% credible interval [CrI], 1.04–1.09 in 2009 vs. 1.00; 95% CrI, 0.98–1.03 in 2021). The district-specific risk ratios of survival outcomes were more favorable in the metropolitan and major metropolitan areas. In particular, the neurological outcomes were significantly improved from relative risk 0.35 (0.31–0.39) in 2009 to 1.75 (1.65–1.86) in 2021. Conclusion: This study emphasized the significance of small-area analyses in identifying high-risk regions and populations using spatiotemporal analyses. These findings have implications for public health planning efforts to alleviate the burden of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Korea.

      • Ensemble smoother with clustered covariance for 3D channelized reservoirs with geological uncertainty

        <P><B>Abstracts</B></P> <P>Reservoir characterization is one of the most important works for decision makings in petroleum industry. Ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) has been researched for history matching, but it requires lots of simulation time. Although ensemble smoother (ES) is much faster than EnKF, it is hard to apply for complex models such as channelized reservoirs due to overshooting and filter divergence problems. The concept of clustered covariance has been proposed only for 2D reservoirs using ES to keep simulation time low and improve history matching results.</P> <P>In this research, a distance-based method and ES with clustered covariance (ESC) are applied to 3D channel fields for the first time. At first, the distance-based method, which consists of Hausdorff distance, multidimensional scaling, and K-means clustering, is successfully applied to 3D fields. Ensemble members in the same group show similar facies distributions and connectivity. Secondly, ESC is compared to a standard EnKF and ES. Updated models from the two methods cannot preserve bimodal distribution and future productions of them show biased predictions. Due to vertical heterogeneity and bimodal distribution of reservoir permeability, it is hard to assimilate reliably for EnKF and ES methods alone in 3D channelized reservoirs.</P> <P>However, ESC manages overshooting problem in ES and preserves bimodal distribution with reliable uncertainty ranges in reservoir performances. It requires about 4% of history matching time of EnKF for the cases tested. Furthermore, only 10 reservoir models selected from the distance-based clustering can replace 200 total ensembles for uncertainty quantification. Therefore, ESC can be applicable to 3D channelized reservoirs with geological uncertainties.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> K-means clustering classifies 3D channel reservoirs using Hausdorff distance. </LI> <LI> The suggested method (ESC) conserves channel connectivity and bimodal distribution. </LI> <LI> ESC keeps history matching time as low as 4% of that of EnKF. </LI> <LI> Ten center models selected by the clustering can quantify performance uncertainty. </LI> </UL> </P>
