An Ontology-based Assembly Sequence Planning System
Hongseok Park,Yongqiang Wang,Jinwoo Park,Myongwoong Park (사)한국CDE학회 2010 한국CAD/CAM학회 국제학술발표 논문집 Vol.2010 No.8
Assembly sequence planning is the most important part of an assembly process planning and researches into this issue have been carrying out in the world wide. However, currently there is no systematic assembly sequence planning method. For this reason, a new approach is required to develop a planning strategy and algorithm to implement the assembly sequence planning system. Firstly, assembly feature is here defined as an information carrier for assembly-specific information. With the aim of enabling efficient and effective development of assembly sequence planning system by making full use of assembly feature, an ontology-based approach to modeling assembly feature is presented. The ontology-based assembly feature models are hierarchically organized. Based on the ontology framework, automatic generation of assembly sequence algorithm is designed to generate all feasible assembly sequences by assembly feature matching. In order to development of the prototype software system, the architecture of assembly sequence planning system is designed. This system is very useful tool for planner to make determination and finish the assembly sequence planning.

Competitiveness forces companies to invent more and more effective methods and tools for the planning of complex production systems. Virtual Reality technology introduced for design of manufacturing systems demonstrated a decrease in planning times as well as the improvement of the quality of planning results. Such introduction of various virtual planning tools implies the complete integration of all planning tasks and demands an intuitive interaction with complex computer models of factory layouts, equipment, facilities, etc. Known methods and tools are limited to a purely virtual representation of planning objects and thus require the complete 3D modeling of the whole manufacturing system. The high costs reduce the possible benefits of these tools and this technology in general. The technology of augmented reality (AR), as a new human-machine interface, introduces a noteworthy perspective for a new generation manufacturing system design. Using AR technology a physically existing production environment can be superimposed with virtual planning objects (3D CAD geometries). Planning tasks can thus be validated without modeling the surrounding environment of the production domain. In this paper we discuss the benefits of AR techniques in certain stages of manufacturing system planning activities and represent an application of AR technology in the field of Automotive Industry.

This paper describes a robotic patient positioning system (PPS) for a fixed-beam heavy-ion therapy system. In order to extend the limited irradiation angle range of the fixed beam, we developed a 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) serial-link robotic arm and used it as the robotic PPS for the fixed-beam heavy-ion therapy system. This research aims to develop a robotic PPS for use in the Korea Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator (KHIMA) system, which is under development at the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (KIRAMS). In particular, we select constraints and criteria that will be used for designing and evaluating the robotic PPS through full consultation with KIRAMS. In accordance with the constraints and criteria, we develop a 6-DOF serial-link robotic arm that consists of six revolute joints for the robotic PPS, where the robotic arm covers the upper body of a patient as a treatment area and achieves a 15 roll and pitch angle in the treatment area without any collision. Various preliminary experiments confirm that the robotic PPS can meet all criteria for extension of the limited irradiation angle range in the treatment area and has a positioning repeatability of 0.275 mm.

The pantograph of electric railway vehicles can cause various mechanical and electrical failures due to contact with the overhead contact wire. This paper presents a system that detects abnormal conditions of a pantograph using fve Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS)-based cameras and a laser in the 808 nm band. For the abnormal conditions of the pantograph, three cameras detect defects of the contact strip, while two cameras detect the deformation of pantograph horns. The confguration can detect a range of 1200 mm for defects and abrasion of the pantograph contact strip, and a Field of View of 849 mm with a width of 17.46° and length of 5.72° for the deformation of pantograph horns. However, the performance test of the pantograph abnormal condition detector showed that while the setup could detect each defect, the accuracy was uncertain depending on the type of defect and the angle between the pantograph and camera. A system was confgured to detect abnormal conditions of the pantograph for metro railway vehicles on operating lines. The system will be used to verify and maintain test devices for monitoring the state of metro railway

These days, companies have to process enormous information and knowledge to satisfy desire of customers. The mere storage of them is no longer a significant issue because the technology of immense progressive information has development during the past years and decades. It is important to deliver the right piece of information to the right person at the right time. If we can share and integrate these kinds of Knowledge, we can expect to achieve many results such as saving costs and reducing time for the product development. Consequently, Knowledge Management System, which supports the exchange of relevant information within organization s structure in company is of special interest for current enterprises. To solve this problem, a concept of the Design Supported by Knowledge Management System is introduced in this paper.
