      • A Parent Relay Station Selection for Efficient Grouping in IEEE 802.16j Mobile Multi-hop Relay Network

        The IEEE 802.16j task group uses the relay station (RS) for the extension of the coverage of the BS and enhancement of throughput. However, if a number of relay stations in a BS cell, the RSs may result in both more frequent handover and higher co-channel interference. To solve this problem, the grouping is required specified in IEEE 802.16j basement document. The selecting method of parent RS managing the group is not specified in base line document of IEEE 802.16j. We propose how to select the parent node in the RS group.

        Comparison of Outcomes of Multi-Level Anterior, Oblique, Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion Surgery : Impact on Global Sagittal Alignment

        Objective : To compare the outcomes of anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF), oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF), and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) in terms of global sagittal alignment. Methods : From January 2007 to December 2019, 141 adult patients who underwent multilevel interbody fusion for lumbar degenerative disorders were enrolled. Regarding the approach, patients were divided into the ALIF (n=23), OLIF (n=60), and TLIF (n=58) groups. Outcomes, including local radiographic parameters and global sagittal alignment, were then compared between the treatment groups. Results : Regarding local radiographic parameters, ALIF and OLIF were superior to TLIF in terms of the change in the anterior disc height (7.6±4.5 mm vs. 6.9±3.2 mm vs. 4.7±2.9 mm, p<0.001), disc angle (-10.0°±6.3° vs. -9.2°±5.2° vs. -5.1°±5.1°, p<0.001), and fused segment lordosis (-14.5°±11.3° vs. -13.8°±7.5° vs. -7.4°±9.1°, p<0.001). However, regarding global sagittal alignment, postoperative lumbar lordosis (-42.5°±9.6° vs. -44.4°±11.6° vs. -40.6°±12.3°, p=0.210), pelvic incidence-lumbar lordosis mismatch (7.9°±11.3° vs. 6.7°±11.6° vs. 11.5°±13.0°, p=0.089), and the sagittal vertical axis (24.3±28.5 mm vs. 24.5±34.0 mm vs. 25.2±36.6 mm, p=0.990) did not differ between the groups. Conclusion : Although the anterior approaches were superior in terms of local radiographic parameters, TLIF achieved adequate global sagittal alignment, comparable to the anterior approaches.

      • Colloidal dynamics and elasticity of dense wax particle suspensions over a wide range of volume fractions when tuning the softness by temperature

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report on the colloidal dynamics and rheology of liquid droplet emulsions and solid particle suspensions over a wide range of volume fractions. Diffusing wave spectroscopy and rheometry were utilized to study the micro/macroscale properties of 1-eicosene wax particles dispersed in water. By changing the temperature, the wax droplets change their properties from soft to hard or vice versa, which, depending on the density, may affect the system properties in a different way. Our measurements in the high volume fraction regime focus on the elasticity index and the plateau storage modulus, G p ′ . The results show a more pronounced increase of the modulus for the wax particle suspensions around the random close packing volume fraction compared to the emulsion.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Optimization of fermentation conditions for the enhancement of α-glucosidase inhibition from Artemisia capillaris extract

        The controlling of α-glucosidase activity plays a crucial role in type II diabetes. Artemisia capillaris (AC) is well known for various pharmacological effects such as anti-dementia, antioxidant, and anti-pathogenic bacterial effects. The fermentation was performed to increase α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (AGI) and maintain cholinesterase inhibition of AC by probiotic Leuconostoc mesenteroides MKJW (MKJW). The optimal fermentation condition to increase AGI was established for 17 design experiments with different levels of AC extract (X₁, 1-5°brix), sucrose (X₂, 200-800 mM), and maltose (X₃, 0-400 mM) as independent variables by response surface methods. The quadratic model for AGI was significantly appropriate (p<0.05). It predicted that the strongest AGI would be 78.57% when MKJW fermented 1°brix AC, 586 mM of sucrose, and 239 mM of maltose for 24h. The predicted dependent variable was not significantly different from the actual value (p>0.05). In conclusion, the MKJW fermented AC under the optimal condition might be used as probiotic food or food ingredient with multifunctional effects.

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We study the Brownian thermal motion of a colloidal model system made by emulsifying hot liquid <I>α</I>-eicosene wax into an aqueous surfactant solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). When this waxy oil-in-water emulsion is cooled below <I>α</I>-eicosene's melting point of <I>T</I> <SUB> <I>c</I> </SUB> ≃ 25 °C, the microscale emulsion droplets solidify, effectively yielding a dispersed particulate system. So, the interiors of these wax droplets can be tuned from a viscous liquid to an elastic solid through very modest changes in absolute temperature. Using the multiple light scattering technique of diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS), which is very sensitive to small-scale motion and shape fluctuations of dispersed colloidal objects, we show that the thermal fluctuations of the interfaces of these liquid droplets at higher temperature, seen in the DWS intensity–intensity correlation function at early times, effectively disappear when these droplets solidify at lower temperature. Thus, we show that the early-time behavior of this DWS correlation function can be used to probe mechanical properties of viscoelastic soft materials dispersed as droplets.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • A Reliable Data Transport Protocol for Internet-accessible Wireless Sensor Networks

        In Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for a variety of applications, users will be provided with measured data from remote sensors through wireless communication. ZigBee is incompatible with other IP-based networks and cannot be easily connected to the Internet. If using IPv6 instead of ZigBee as a network layer, numerous sensor nodes can have their unique IP address. In the Internet, the transport layer over IP is either TCP or UDP. TCP header yields more overhead than UDP header while UDP is an intrinsically unreliable protocol. WSN requires low overhead but reliable delivery and this paper suggests using Reliable UDP in the transport layer.

      • Pulmonary Function Difference in Sasang Constitutional Types

        <P>The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in pulmonary function among Sasang constitutional types in young adults. The Sasang Constitutional Analysis Tool (SCAT), pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and cardiopulmonary exercise tests were conducted in 417 participants from 2009 to 2015. Subjects with the Tae-Eum (TE) type had significantly higher inspiratory capacity (IC) and inspiratory reserve volume (IRV) values than those with the So-Yang (SY) and So-Eum (SE) types (<I>P</I> < 0.0001). The TE and SY types showed higher forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (FEV<SUB>1</SUB>) values than the SE type (<I>P</I> < 0.0001). An increase in IRV and a decrease in expiratory reserve volume (ERV) in TE type males remained even after adjusting for covariate factors. These results indicate that young adults with the TE type have weaker lung function than those with the other constitutional types, suggesting its innate physiological pulmonary features.</P>

        외국인 유학생을 위한 직무능력 기반 한국어교육 연구

        한국 내 학령인구의 감소는 국내 대학들을 국제화시키는 가장 근본적인 원인이라 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 점차 늘어나는 대학 내 외국인 유학생의 학습 요구와 외국인 유학생에 대한 사회의 다양한 기대에 부응할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 것을 궁극적 목적으로 삼았다. 그리고 외국인 유학생의 다양한 대학 수학 목적 중 취업에 집중하여 외국인 유학생을 위한 직무능력 기반의 한국어교육에 대해 논하고, 나아가 취업 역량 교과목을 개발하는 방안을 제안하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본고는 NCS(국가직무능력표준)와 외국인 유학생 역량을 대응·융합하여 외국인 유학생을 위한 ‘직무능력’을 설정하였다. 이후 해당 ‘직무역량’이 교과목 개발에 어떻게 활용될 수 있는지를 특정 교과목 개발에 대해 예를 들며 서술하였다. 본고에서 설정한 ‘직무능력’은 외국인 유학생의 취업 역량 교과목을 개발할 때 준거로 활용할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 외국인 근로자를 선발하는 시험을 개발하는 데 평가 준거로도 활용할 수 있을 것이다. The decline in the school-age population in Korea is the most fundamental cause of internationalizing domestic universities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find a way to meet the increasing learning needs of foreign students in universities and various social expectations for foreign students. The purpose of this study is to focus on employment among the various objectives of foreign students studying at university, to discuss job competency-based Korean language education for foreign students, and to propose a plan to develop employment competency subjects. To this end, this study has established a ‘job competency’ for foreign students by coping and fusion of the NCS (national competency standard) and the competencies of foreign students. Afterwards, how the relevant ‘job competency’ can be used in the development of a subject was described with an example of the development of a specific subject. The ‘job competency’ set in this study can be used not only as a criterion for developing foreign students ‘job competency’ courses, but also as a criterion for evaluation in developing a test to select foreign workers.

        C대학교 핵심역량 기반 교양교육과정에 대한 학습자 인식 조사 연구

        본 연구는 C대학교의 핵심역량 기반 교양교육과정 운영과 관련하여 학생들의 인식을 통해 현 수준을 진단하고, 이를 보완할 수 있는 방향을 제시하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 설문조사 결과에 따르면, 학생들은 교양교육과정이 5개 핵심역량 중 다중시민 역량 개발에 가장 도움이 많이 되고, 사랑헌신 역량 개발에 도움이 가장 덜 된다고 답하였다. 중요하게 생각되는 핵심역량에 대해서는 공감소통 역량이라고 응답한 비율이 가장 높았으며, 실제 교양교육과정에서 중요하게 다루어지고 있는 역량으로 네트워크 역량, 다중시민 역량 순으로 응답하여 중요하게 생각하는 역량과는 차이가 있었다. 핵심역량의 성취정도는 네트워크 역량, 창의융합 역량 순이었고, 교양교과목과 핵심역량의 일치 정도는 창의융합 역량이 가장 높고, 사랑헌신 역량이 가장 낮다고 응답하였다. 본 연구 결과를 일반화하는 데에는 한계가 있겠지만, 이후, 이에 대한 보완을 통해 교양교육과정의 내실을 위한 근거 자료로 활용되기를 기대한다. This study aims to present the current situation through investigating the general education curriculum based on core competences in C university and it is very much interest that this study tries to suggest the direction of development of competence-based education. The results of the survey are as follows; students get a feel for Affectional Multi-citizen and they think Love-devotion has the least effect to develop their own competences among five core competences. Also, they think Empathy communication is the most important competence of the five but they seem to be aware of Network and Affectional Multi-citizen take the most part of the general education curriculum. They know to achieve the competences in the following order; Network and Creative convergence. The answer of the question, that is, how related the competence which the subjects try to acquire is to five core competences in the curriculum, is that Creative convergence works but Love-devotion doesn’t work. These results suggest that this study become a base material for improving the quality of general education through a follow-up research on the core competence-based curriculum of general education.
