This paper describes the vibration characteristics of Nd:YAG laser welding plates analyzed time-average Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI). In laser welding, the travel speed has influence on a mechanical properties, such as elastic modules, response frequencies and so on, which is resulted on a residual stress of the welding zone. the response frequencies related to elastic modules are determined by time-average ESPI and the results, as compared to each condition; are used to estimate optimal condition of travel speed.

The largehead hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) is one of the most common fisheries stocks in the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea. The species is caught using a variety of fishing tools, such as a stow net or a long line, as well as jigging and trawling. Scientific investigations have been conducted throughout the world to enable evidence-based estimations for the management and protection of the main fisheries biomass. For example, inshore and offshore hydro acoustic surveys are performed annually using bottom- and mid-water trawls around the Korean Peninsula. However, to date, no acoustic survey has been conducted to estimate fish size distribution, which is necessary to construct a data bank of target strength (TS) relative to fish species, length (L), and frequency. This study describes the frequency and length dependence of TS among fishes in Korean waters for the purpose of constructing such a TS data bank. TS measurements of the largehead hairtail were carried out in a water tank (L 5 m×width 6 m×height 5 m) at frequencies of 50, 75, 120, and 200 kHz, using a tethering method. The average TS patterns were measured as a function of tilt angle, ranging from -45° (head down) to +45° (head up) every 0.2°. The length conversion constant (b20) was estimated under the assumption that TS is proportional to the square of the length. In addition, in situ TS measurements on live largehead hairtails were performed using a split beam echo sounder.

Tinea manuum comprises roughly 5% of all cases of tinea, and the main culprit is known to be Trichophyton (T.) rubrum, T. mentagrophytes var. erinacei is a dermatophyte that may be transmitted from hedgehogs, and it has been reported in Korea now that vast diversity of pets are brought into existence. Tinea manuum caused by T. mentagrophytes var. erinacei, is frequently localized to the initial site of exposure, and thus may be confused with hand eczema or pompholyx. The patient visited the outpatient clinic with an erythematous scaly patch with pustule on the right finger after being initially misdiagnosed with housewife eczema. Numerous hyphae were evident on KOH smear examination,and confirmative diagnosis of tinea manuum caused by T. mentagrophytes var. erinacei was made after culturing scales from the lesion for molecular biological analyses. The patient is currently under follow-up without relapse after being treated systemic and topical antifungal agents.

One of the most popular routes used to improve the thermoelectric performance of materials is tosuppress their lattice thermal conductivities. Thermoelectric performance is characterized by a figure-of-meritzT, which is defined as σS2T/(κe + κl), where the σ, S, T, κe, and κl are the electrical conductivity, Seebeckcoefficient, temperature (in Kelvin), electronic thermal conductivity, and the lattice thermal conductivity,respectively. Among the variables in zT, the κl is the only variable that is independent of all other variables. In other words, reduction in κl guarantees zT improvement. Therefore, several different strategies to decreaseκl have been introduced and implemented. Among the many κl reduction strategies, introducing point defectsin the material by forming an alloy is particularly effective. Here, phonon scattering due to point defects inMo(Se1-xTex)2 (x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.0) was studied using both the Debye-Callaway (DC) model andCallaway-von Baeyer (CvB) model. The advantages and disadvantages of using DC or CvB models arethoroughly discussed. When analyzing the effect of phonon scattering due to point defects, the CvB model issimpler and gives more information about the details of phonon scattering.
