Objectives: The purpose of this study is to find the effects on the basic physical strength and body composition of educable adults with developmental disabilities (intellectual disabilities), with mental disabilities, and with physical disabilities. Methods: The study subjects were 14 educable adults with a mild case intellectual disabilities, with mental disabilities, and with physical disabilities who were going to D development institute for vocational education and training under Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities and who never experienced any regular physical activities other than physical training activities in the D development institute and had no specific diseases. Gymstick exercise program was applied to them for 8 weeks. Results: First, regarding the basic physical strength types for health (grip strength, back strength, power (vertical jump)), the subjects statistically and significantly increased a level of their muscular strength after participating in the 8-week gymstick exercise program (p<.05); their flexibility level was reduced after the participation in the program (p<.05). Second, regarding the variables of body composition), their weight, body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, and BMI were decreased and increased after the participation in the 8-week gymstick exercise program (p<.05), Conclusions: In the follow-up research, it will be necessary to divide study subjects into an exercise group and a comparative group in order to conduct comparative research on the effects produced after the application of the exercise program.
Polymeric Micelle-Mediated Interdrop Association of Concentrated Attractive Nanoemulsions

We introduce a novel approach to control interdrop association of attractive nanoemulsion (ANEs) by utilizing polymer chain conformation changes of attractive micellar linkers (AMLs). Highly stable ANEs were fabricated by co-assembly of amphiphilic triblock copolymer, poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(ε-caprolactone)-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-b-PCL-b-PEO), with lecithin to form a resilient membrane at the oil-water interface. AMLs were prepared by hybridizations of the triblock with lecithin to led drop-linker-drop association though dipolar attraction. The attraction between lecithin head on hydrophobic core of AMLs with end group of PEO enables to control the association. From dense suspension rheology studies, we demonstrated that the properties of polymer dominate the rheological properties of ANE systems. Finally, evaluations of this nanoemulsion fluid system on cell membrane-mimic layer propose potential for soft-material application.
실리콘기름 안내충전술을 시행받은 다양한 유리체망막질환 환자들의 임상 경과 고찰

Purpose: This study aimed to report anatomic and visual acuity outcomes after 5000-centistoke silicone oil was used as a retinal tamponade for the treatment of various causes of vitreoretinal diseases. Methods: Two hundred ten eyes of 196 patients who had undergone vitrectomy with silicone oil between 1995 and 2004 were reviewed retrospectively. According to etiology, the eyes were divided into five groups : (1) Group 1 included 60 eyes associated with proliferative diabetic retinopathy, (2) Group 2 included 90 eyes associated with proliferative vitreoretinopathy, (3) Grouop 3 included 30 eyes associated with trauma, (4) Group 4 included 13 eyes associated with infection or other inflammatory disease, (5) Group 5 included 17 eyes associated with submacular hemorrhage or etc. Anatomic outcomes included complete retinal attachment and macular attachment. Visual acuity outcomes included ambulatory vision (≥4/200) and preservation of preoperative visual acuity. Results: At the last examination, the retina was completely attached in 98.1% of cases in Group 1, 98.9% Group 2, 82.6% Group 3, 83.3% Group 4 and 100% Group 5. The macula was attached in 98.1%, 98.9%, 87.0%, 100%, and 100% eyes, respectively. Ambulatory vision was achieved in 28 eyes (46.7%) in Group 1, 50 eyes (55.6%) in Group 2, 9 eyes (30.5%) in Group 3, 8 eyes (61.5%) in Group 4, and 6 eyes (35.3%) in Group 5. Conclusions: Vitrectomy with 5000-centistoke silicone oil tamponade is an effective method in the management of vitreoretinal diseases with multiple etiologies.

Purpose: To compare the clinical results of single-piece hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOL) (Akreos AdaptTM, B&L) with those of three-piece hydrophobic acrylic IOL (Sensar?, AMO) after cataract surgery. Methods: This study was a prospective case-control study in which Akreos lenses were implanted for the experimental group and Sensar lenses were implanted for the control group. All surgical procedures were performed by the same surgeon. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), change of anterior chamber depth, degree of posterior capsule opacification (PCO), higher-order aberration, and contrast sensitivity (CS) were examined. Measurements were performed by masked examiners prior to the surgery and at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months, postoperatively. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in BCVA, CS or PCO between the two groups. The Refractive error was -0.17±0.67D in the experimental group and -0.02±0.41D in the control group at 6 months, postoperatively. During the first postoperative month, forward movement of both IOLs was detected. Afterward, both IOLs moved backwards until 6 months. Fourth-order spherical aberrations were significantly higher in the Akreos group (p<0.05) at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months, postoperatively. Conclusions: The clinical results for Akreos IOL and Sensar IOL were similar in most aspects.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic ability of optic disc topographic parameters and the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness parameter measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and to determine the association of these structural parameters with visual field indices. Methods: Fifty-six glaucomatous eyes and 65 healthy control eyes were enrolled in this retrospective cross-sectional study. Each subject had a 24-2 full threshold test on a Humphrey visual field analyzer and an optical coherence tomographic evaluation. The parameters from the fast RNFL thickness algorithm and the fast optic disc algorithm were analyzed by an ROC curve, and we sought to determine the association of these parameters with visual field indices by linear and logarithmic regression. Results: The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) value of the fast optic disc algorithm parameters ranged from 0.78 to 0.79 and that of the fast RNFL thickness algorithm parameters ranged from 0.74 to 0.81. In this paper, we propose chain code based decision technique of edge orientation. Edge Information is one of the most important information for handling image signals, and is applied to various civilian and military area, such as image surveillance for military reconnaissance, restoration of noised image signal, fingerprint recognition, and so on. The conventional methods to find edge orientations exploit a certain size of mask which weights for a certain direction, so they showed limitations in the case of diagonal edges except 45 degrees. We find edge orientations using chain code. According to the experiments, the proposed method shows better performance than the conventional approaches. The exact edge orientations including diagonal directions are well found.
