        KSNM60 in Clinical Nuclear Oncology

        Since the foundation of the Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine in 1961, clinical nuclear oncology has been a major part of clinical nuclear medicine in Korea. There are several important events for the development of clinical nuclear oncology in Korea. First, a scintillating type gamma camera was adopted in 1969, which enabled to perform modern oncological gamma imaging. Second, Tc-99 m generator was imported to Korea since 1979, which promoted the wide clinical use of gamma camera imaging by using various kinds of Tc-99 m labeled radiopharmaceuticals. Third, a gamma camera with single photon emission tomography (SPECT) capability was first installed in 1980, which has been used for various kinds of tumor SPECT imaging. Fourth, in 1994, clinical positron emission tomography (PET) scanner and cyclotron with a production of F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose were first installed in Korea. Fifth, Korean Board of Nuclear Medicine was established in 1995, which contributed in the education and manpower training of dedicated nuclear medicine physicians in Korea. Finally, an integrated PET/CT scanner was first installed in 2002. Since that, PET/CT imaging has been a major imaging tool in clinical nuclear oncology in Korea. In this review, a brief history of clinical nuclear oncology in Korea is described.

        Prognostic Value of Baseline 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT in Patients with Multiple Myeloma: A Multicenter Cohort Study

        Objective: We investigated the prognostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Materials and Methods: Subjects were 76 patients with newly diagnosed myeloma and pretreatment with18F-FDG PET/CT from four hospitals. The PET/CT features were evaluated and the clinical characteristics were reviewed. Prognostic factors related to poor progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were identified using a Cox proportional hazards regression model and a prediction scale was developed based on the identified factors. Results: Multivariate analysis showed that the presence of 18F-FDG-avid focal bone lesions (≥ 3) was a significant and independent predictor of PFS (hazard ratio [HR] = 3.28, p = 0.007) and OS (HR = 11.78, p = 0.001). The presence of extramedullary disease on PET/CT scan was also a significant predictor of poor PFS (HR = 2.79, p = 0.006) and OS (HR = 3.89, p = 0.003). A prognostic scale was developed using these two predictors. An increase in score on the scale corresponded to a significantly increased risk of poor OS (p = 0.005). In addition, Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that patient survival varied significantly according to the scale (p < 0.001 for OS and p = 0.001 for PFS). Conclusion: 18F-FDG-avid focal lesions and the presence of extramedullary disease on PET/CT scan are significantly associated with poor OS in MM patients. The scale developed according to these predictors represents a potential prognostic tool for evaluation of patients with MM.

        정신과 환자의 한의의료 이용경험 및 인식에 대한 질적 분석 - 예비연구

        Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience and perception of using Korean medicine treatments for patients with mental disorders. Methods: The method of a qualitative analysis was used, and semi-structured interviews were conducted. The researchers developed the survey questionnaires with consultation from psychiatrists from various university hospitals. Before conducting interviews, an IRB was approved KHSIRB-21-131 (RA), and the Hankook Research Company managed the interviews. The question composition comprised 11 questions based on symptoms and treatment situations accompanying treatment due to mental distress, perception of Korean medicine, awareness of treatment costs, and awareness of treatment costs. Results: A total of six patients were interviewed. Each interviewee took 90 minutes to answer questions. Through the analysis of the data, the patients comprised four categories: characteristics, awareness of Korean medicine, awareness of Western treatment, and daily life due to mental disorder. The experience and perception of patients using Korean medicine showed positive attitudes. There was an opinion among patients that Korean medicine treatment was less dependent on drugs, and had fewer side effects, than Western medicine. Some patients said that Korean medical treatment is expensive and burdensome medical expenses. Some patients were not aware of the application of insurance to mitigate medical expenses. Conclusions: Based on the findings of the study, it is urgent to expand the application of insurance benefits to Korean medicine.

        수치지형 자료의 모델링 및 지형분석 S/W의 개발

        The fire effectiveness and the operationability of the ground weapon system (such as tank, armored vehicle, howitzer, MLRS, ${\cdots}$), whose operations are usually happened on the ground, are dependent not only on their performances but also on the terrain environments. Especially, the artillery weapons systems' effectiveness is largely varied, because their maneuverability (such as translation, occupation of their sites) and the fire effectiveness are very dependent on the terrain. In this paper, presented are the methods how to analyze the terrain using the digital terrain data. And a software (which are implemented on the IBM PC compatible personal computer) is developed for the analysis of the terrain using the various method of computer Aided Geometric Design and Modeling. The S/W is expected to be very useful for the evaluation of the artillery weapon systems and for the commanders' decision making.

        Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia 환자에서 Fludarabine 치료로 인해 발생한 자가면역용혈빈혈 1예

        혈액학적 악성질환 중의 하나인 Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia는 혈청 단 클론 IgM 분획이 증가하는 질환으로 퓨린유사제인 fludarabine에 좋은 반응을 보이고 있다. 만성 림프구성 백혈병에 fludarabine 치료 후 발생한 자가 면역용혈빈혈에 대한 보고는 다수 있으나 Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia 환자에서 fludarabine 치료 후 발생한 자가면역용혈빈혈에 대한 보고는 찾아볼 수 없었다. 저자들은 Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia 환자에서 fludarabine 치료 후 발생한 중증의 자가면역용혈빈혈 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

        해양생물을 활용한 STEAM 프로그램이 초등학생들의 과학 탐구 능력 및 정의적 영역에 미치는 효과

        The aim of this study is to develop and apply the STEAM program with the theme of 'Create an environment that can live marine organisms, observing and grow their own gathering marine organisms', in order to examine the effect of it on the scientific inquiry activity, the creative problem solving ability and the scientific attitude. For achieving this objective, developed the STEAM program of 'Marine organisms' that can easily observe at a tide pool in the intertidal zone of Jeju coast, and applied it to the sixth grade of H elementary school in Jeju city, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. When the developed STEAM program and traditional teaching program to the experimental group and the control group was applied, respectively, the experimental group's scientific inquiry activity, the creative problem solving ability and the scientific attitude are significantly improved than the control group. Thus, the developed STEAM program of 'Marine organisms' is positively affected on students' interest of marine organisms, and improved their scientific inquiry activity, the creative problem solving ability and the scientific attitude. Therefore, in future, it is required the development of the STEAM programs utilizing the learning materials of regions such as this study. 본 연구는 해양생물이 살아갈 수 있는 환경을 조성하고 채집한 생물을 직접 기르고 관찰하는 STEAM 프로그램을 개발하고 적용함으로서 초등학생의 과학 탐구 능력, 창의적 문제해결력 및 과학적 태도에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 해안 조간대 조수웅덩이에서 쉽게 찾아 볼 수 있는 ‘해양생물’을 소재로 STEAM 프로그램을 개발한 후 J도 소재 H초등학교 6학년 학생을 대상으로 적용하였다. 실험 집단과 비교 집단으로 나누어 본 연구에서 개발한 STEAM 프로그램과 전통적 방식의 일반 수업을 각각 적용한 결과, 과학 탐구 능력, 창의적 문제해결력 및 과학적 태도에서 실험 집단이 비교 집단보다 유의미하게 향상되었다. 따라서 본 연구의 해양생물을 학습 소재로 활용한 STEAM 프로그램은 학생들의 해양생물에 대한 관심을 향상시킴은 물론 과학 탐구 능력, 창의적 문제해결력 및 과학적 태도 향상에 효과를 나타내어 앞으로 지역 특성이 있는 학습 자료를 활용한 STEAM 프로그램 개발이 요구된다.
