      • Dual-Mode Luminescence with Broad Near UV and Blue Excitation Band from Sr<sub>2</sub>CaMoO<sub>6</sub>:Sm<sup>3+</sup> Phosphor for White LEDs

        <P>Dual-mode excitation properties were introduced in Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> doped Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaMoO<SUB>6</SUB> prepared by a high temperature solid state reaction technique. Two ways are available to generate white light in the single-component phosphor activated by Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> ions. Warm white light can be obtained from Sr<SUB>1.995</SUB>Sm<SUB>0.005</SUB>CaMoO<SUB>6</SUB> phosphor pumped by 380 or 411 nm excitation energy. The full visible spectral emission of the single-phase phosphor comes from the high and low level emission lines of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> ions as well as the intrinsic luminescence of MoO<SUB>6</SUB> group. It is also competitive as yellow-emitting phosphor for blue pumped white LEDs and gives three emission bands at 567, 603, and 650 nm, presenting yellow luminescence upon 466 nm radiation. The 650 nm red emission band corresponding to <SUP>4</SUP>G<SUB>5/2</SUB> → <SUP>6</SUP>H<SUB>9/2</SUB> transition of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> can make its color rendering index better. The excellent photoluminescence of Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaMoO<SUB>6</SUB> is related to the partial tilting CaO<SUB>6</SUB> octahedral and the lowered symmetry were confirmed by General Structure Analysis System. Band gap of Sr<SUB>2</SUB>CaMoO<SUB>6</SUB> estimated from the diffuse reflection spectra and also calculated by CASTEP mode shows its semiconducting character. All the results show that the Sr<SUB>2–<I>x</I></SUB>Sm<SUB><I>x</I></SUB>CaMoO<SUB>6</SUB> phosphors have considerable potential for applications in near UV LED or pumped by blue LED chip.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpccck/2015/jpccck.2015.119.issue-27/acs.jpcc.5b02828/production/images/medium/jp-2015-02828d_0011.gif'></P>

        Knockdown of circ_0006872 alleviates CSE‑induced human bronchial epithelial cells injury in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

        Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported to be related to the initiation and progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by affecting the function of human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs). Here, we aimed to investigate the function and mechanism of circ_0006872 in regulating COPD process using cigarette smoke extract (CSE)-induced 16HBEC in vitro. The results showed that circ_0006872 was increased in smokers without or with COPD, especially in smokers with COPD. Also, its expression was dose-dependently up-regulated by CSE exposure in 16HBECs. Functionally, circ_0006872 knockdown dramatically attenuated CSE-evoked proliferation arrest, apoptosis, inflammatory response and oxidative stress in 16HBECs. Mechanistically, circ_0006872/miR-485-3p/cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1B (CDKN1B) formed a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network. CDKN1B was increased and miR-485-3p was decreased in COPD patients and CSE-induced 16HBECs. MiR-485-3p overexpression or CDKN1B knockdown protected 16HBEC against CSE-induced 16HBEC injury mentioned above. Moreover, rescue experiments showed that circ_0006872 regulated CSE-induced 16HBEC injury via miR-485-3p/CDKN1B axis. Circ_0006872 silencing protected against CSE-induced bronchial epithelial cell injury via miR-485-3p/CDKN1B axis, suggesting the potential application of circ_0006872 in preventing cigarette smoke-induced COPD.

        Distributed Prevention Mechanism for Network Partitioning in Wireless Sensor Networks

        Connectivity is a crucial quality of service measure inwireless sensor networks. However, the network is always at riskof being split into several disconnected components owing to thesensor failures caused by various factors. To handle the connectivityproblem, this paper introduces an in-advance mechanism toprevent network partitioning in the initial deployment phase. Theapproach is implemented in a distributed manner, and every nodeonly needs to know local information of its 1-hop neighbors, whichmakes the approach scalable to large networks. The goal of the proposedmechanism is twofold. First, critical nodes are locally detectedby the critical node detection (CND) algorithm based on theconcept of maximal simplicial complex, and backups are arrangedto tolerate their failures. Second, under a greedy rule, topologicalholes within the maximal simplicial complex as another potentialrisk to the network connectivity are patched step by step. Finally,we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithmthrough simulation experiments.

        Molecular and functional characterization of the adiponectin (AdipoQ) gene in goat skeletal muscle satellite cells

        Objective: It is commonly accepted that adiponectin binds to its two receptors to regulate fatty acid metabolism in adipocytes. To better understand their functions in the regulation of intramuscular adipogenesis in goats, we cloned the three genes (adiponectin [AdipoQ], adiponectin receptor 1 [AdipoR1], and AdipoR2) encoding these proteins and detected their mRNA distribution in different tissues. We also determined the role of AdipoQ in the adipogenic differentiation of goat skeletal muscle satellite cells (SMSCs). Methods: SMSCs were isolated using 1 mg/mL Pronase E from the longissimus dorsi muscles of 3-day-old female Nanjiang brown goats. Adipogenic differentiation was induced in satellite cells by transferring the cells to Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium supplemented with an isobutylmethylxanthine, dexamethasone and insulin cocktail. The pEGFP-N1-AD plasmid was transfected into SMSCs using Lipofectamine 2000. Expression of adiponectin in tissues and SMSCs was detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction and immunocytochemical staining. Results: The three genes were predominantly expressed in adipose and skeletal muscle tissues. According to fluorescence and immunocytochemical analyses, adiponectin protein expression was only observed in the cytoplasm, suggesting that adiponectin is localized to the cytoplasm of goat SMSCs. In SMSCs overexpressing the AdipoQ gene, adiponectin promoted SMSC differentiation into adipocytes and significantly (p<0.05) up-regulated expression of AdipoR2, acetyl-CoA carboxylase, fatty-acid synthase, and sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1, though expression of CCAAT/enhancer-binding $protein-{\alpha}$, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ${\gamma}$, and AdipoR1 did not change significantly. Conclusion: Adiponectin induced SMSC differentiation into adipocytes, indicating that adiponectin may promote intramuscular adipogenesis in goat SMSC.

        Mediating Effect of Resilience in the Relationship Between Grit and Career Preparation Behavior of Art Design Students Lili Zhang,** Yu Wang,*** & Youngchun Ko**** Abstract: This study is to explore the mediating effect of resilience in the influence of grit on career preparation behavior for students in the department of art design. The subjects of the study are 524 students in the department of art design at H and D universities in Heilongjiang Province, China, and reliability, correlation, and regression analysis are conducted using the SPSS 25 program. The relationship among grit, resilience, and career preparation behavior is explored for university students in the department of art design. It is confirmed that resilience partially mediated grit's influence on career preparation behavior. Therefore, in order to promote career preparation behavior of students in the department of art design, university members should create a psychological and material environment for university students so that they can improve their grits and cultivate resilience.         MiR-370-3p aggravates blood–brain barrier injury and neuron apoptosis by targeting SMURF1 to activate the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling in sepsis-associated encephalopathy

        Background Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is characterized by blood–brain barrier (BBB) disruption, neuron apoptosis and infl ammation. Studies show that miR-370-3p can be a new diagnostic biomarker for SAE. Objective This study aims to investigate the role of miR-370-3p in SAE and the underlying mechanism. Result An in vitro model of BBB disruption was established in brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The expression level of RNAs was tested via RT-qPCR. Protein levels were detected by western blotting. Annexin V/PI double staining and CCK-8 assays were conducted to assess the apoptosis and viability of brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs). The migration of BMECs was detected by Transwell assay. BBB permeability analysis was performed to assess the relative permeability coeffi cient of BMECs. The in vitro barrier integrity was detected by trans-epithelial/ endothelial electrical resistance (TEER). The binding between miR-370-3p and SMAD specifi c E3 ubiquitin protein ligase 1 (SMURF1) was identifi ed by luciferase reporter assay. In this study, miR-370-3p was upregulated in LPS-treated BMECs. MiR-370-3p knockdown alleviated LPS-induced BBB disruption and apoptosis of BMECs, as well as recovered cell viability and migration. SMURF1 was directly targeted by miR-370-3p. SMURF1 silencing reversed the eff ects of miR-370-3p defi ciency in LPS-stimulated BMECs. Moreover, miR-370-3p activated the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling via regulating SMURF1 in LPS-stimulated BMECs. Conclusion MiR-370-3p aggravates BBB disruption and neuron apoptosis by targeting SMURF1 to activate the TLR4/ MyD88/NF-κB signaling in SAE.

        Raspberry Ketone Protects Rats Fed High-Fat Diets Against Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis

        The protective effect of raspberry ketone against nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) was tested by using a high-fat diet-induced NASH model, and its mechanism was explored. Forty Sprague–Dawley rats with a 1:1 male to female ratio were randomly divided into five groups: the normal control (NC) group (n = 8) fed normal diet for 8 weeks, the model control (MC) group (n = 8) fed high-fat diet (82% standard diet, 8.3% yolk powder, 9.0% lard, 0.5% cholesterol, and 0.2%sodium taurocholate), and the raspberry ketone low-dose (0.5%) (RKL) group (n = 8), the raspberry ketone middle-dose (1%)(RKM) group (n = 8), and the raspberry ketone high-dose (2%) (RKH) group (n = 8) fed high-fat diet for 4 weeks. After 8weeks of experiment, all the rats were sacrificed, and blood lipid parameters (total cholesterol [TC], triglycerides [TG], highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol [HDL-C], and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [LDL-C]), liver function parameters (serum alanine aminotransferase [ALT], aspartate aminotransferase [AST], and alkaline phosphatase [ALP]), leptin (LEP), free fatty acid (FFA), tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-a), blood glucose (GLU), and insulin (INS) with calculated INS resistance index (IRI) and INS-sensitive index (ISI) were measured in rats. Therefore, we determined the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-a activity in liver homogenate and the levels of low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), adiponection (APN), superoxide dismutase, and malondialdehyde (MDA). The liver tissues of rats in each group were imaged by electron microscopy with hematoxylin–eosin as the staining agent. The levels of TG, TC,LDL-C, ALT, AST, ALP, GLU, INS, IRI, FFA, LEP, TNF-a, MDA, and hs-CRP of MC rats were significantly increased (P < .05, P < .01). Therefore, the levels of HDL-C, ISI, PPAR-a, LDLR, and APN were significantly decreased (P < .05,P < .01). Compared with the MC group, each parameter in the RKL, RKM, and RKH groups was significantly improved (P < .05, P < .01). Thus raspberry ketone was an effective intervention for NASH in rats. It was believed that raspberry ketone had a dual effect of liver protection and fat reduction, and the mechanism was probably mediated by alleviation of fatty degeneration of liver cells, decreased liver inflammation, correction of dyslipidemia, reversal of LEP and INS resistance, and improved antioxidant capacity.

        Patterns of technology upgrading – the case of biotechnology in China

        Technology upgrading is essential for emerging countries to catch up. Yet, little is known about how countries are upgrading their technologies. In this paper, we first explore the patterns of biotechnology upgrading in China and examine the specialization feature from both technological and organizational perspectives. Our results show that China has specialized in the industrial-biotech sub-field, and firms have played a key role in the development of biotech in this field. Secondly, we investigate the knowledge bases for technology upgrading. From the perspective of scientific knowledge bases, we find that there is a scientific backup for biotechnology; and that biotechnology goes hand in hand with bioscience. From the perspective of technical knowledge bases, by disaggregating the knowledge sources by countries, we find that local knowledge has become an increasingly important resource for the development of new biotechnologies in China. The increasing importance of local knowledge in the development of new biotechnologies shows that China is moving on a path from imitative to indigenous innovation.

        In this paper, we give congruences on an abundant semigroup with a quasi-ideal S-adequate transversal $S^{\circ}$ by the congruence pair abstractly which consists of congruences on the structure component parts R and ${\Lambda}$. We prove that the set of all congruences on this kind of semigroups is a complete lattice.

        Research on Partial Discharge Pattern Recognition in GIS Based on EFPI Sensor

        An EFPI fber optic ultrasonic sensor can be used for the detection and pattern recognition of partial discharge ultrasonic signals in Gas Insulated Switchgear. Compared with traditional piezoelectric sensors, it has many advantages, such as high sensitivity and strong anti-interference ability. Based on this, four typical PD models of the tip, metal particles, suspension and creeping surface were set up in the GIS cavity flled with 0.4 MPa SF6 gas, and the EFPI sensor was innovatively used to detect the discharge ultrasonic signal and extract the single ultrasonic pulse signal. The waveform features form a feature parameter database, and the probabilistic neural network algorithm and the support vector machine algorithm are used for pattern recognition and comparative analysis, respectively. The ultrasonic signal detected by the EFPI sensor has prominent features. On the basis of extracting the feature parameters, the two pattern recognition algorithms can achieve an average recognition rate of more than 85%, and the recognition efect of the support vector machine is better than that of the probabilistic neural network
