Purpose: This study sought to identify the characteristics and trends of domestic research related to the health of migrant workers. Methods: This was a scoping review, and the inclusion criteria were based on the participant/concept/context (PCC) framework as follows: Participants - all migrant workers working in Korea, concept - studies dealing with migrant workers' health problems or care, and context - Korean studies conducted from 2004 to 2023. A systematic electronic literature search was conducted from January 22 to January 30, 2024, using six electronic databases: RISS, KISS, KMbase, KNbase, Scholar, and ScienceON. Of the 607 retrieved articles, 78 studies met the inclusion criteria. Results: Nursing was the most common academic discipline that addressed the health of migrant workers (29.5%). However, nurs- ing interventions for health care, prevention, and promotion were relatively scarce. The health problems of migrant work- ers included issues with physical health, mental health, and health behaviors. The main physical health problems experi- enced were musculoskeletal disorders, and the mental health problems included mild depression, anxiety, acculturation stress, and job stress. In addition, migrant workers experienced health inequalities, such as difficulties in using health in- formation and accessing health services. Conclusion: Future health-related research on migrant workers should identify the working environment, health problems, and the health behaviors of migrant workers in Korea and develop and apply various interventions to deliver customized health care.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the impact of individual, social, and migration-related factors on self-rated health among Korean-Chinese and Vietnamese naturalized citizens, and to compare the predictors of self-rated health across ethnic and gender groups. Methods: A logistic regression analysis was conducted on 2,737 adult naturalized citi- zens using data from the 2022 Survey on Immigrants’ Living Condition and Labour Force. Results: A Korean-Chinese ethnicity and the female gender predicted poor self-rated health, along with older age, lower education, single status, lower income, employment status, lower life satisfaction, poor Korean language proficiency, and perceived discrimination. Life satisfaction and Korean proficiency were predictors of self-rated health among Vietnamese naturalized citizens, whereas various individual, social, and migration-related factors predicted self-rated health among the Korean-Chinese. Ethnicity, marital status, and Korean language proficiency were significant predictors of self-rated health exclusively among women. Conclusion: Ethnicity and gender significantly influenced self-rated health, with predictors varying across subgroups. This study emphasizes the need for ethnicity- and gender-sensitive health policies for naturalized citizens.

Purpose: This study investigated the effects of health behavior and status of middle-aged men according to their levels of economic activity participation on their health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using 2017 Korea Health Panel data. Methods: The Korea Health Panel data from February to June 2017 were used. Of the 1,626 male respondents aged 50-64 years, 1,434 were in the economic activity participation group, and 192 were in the economic inactivity group. HRQoL was measured using the EuroQol Group's Euro Quality of life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) index. The data were analyzed using the t-test, chi-square test, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression on the SPSS/WIN 25 software. Results: In the economic inactivity group, the factors affecting HRQoL were education, activity restriction, and frustration, with their explanatory power being 47.0%. In the economic activity group, along with the above-mentioned factors, the other predisposing factors were age, household income, chronic disease, suicidal ideation, stress, and problems such as vision, hearing, and eating, with the explanatory power being 28.0%. In both groups, the most associating factor was activity restriction. Conclusion: Healthcare providers need to consider the economic activity of middle-aged men while developing healthcare policies or measures to improve their HRQoL.

Vol.11 No.1
Purpose: This study examined the impacts of multicultural awareness and cultural competence on the multicultural attitudes of nursing students. Results: The average level of multicultural awareness, cultural competence, and multicultural attitude was 3.70 (.43), 3.55(.43), and 3.89(.52), respectively. There was a significant difference in foreign ability in the case of having experience or acquaintance with multiculturalism. Multicultural awareness had a normal relationship with cultural competency (r=.61, p<.001) and multicultural attitudes (r=.64, p<.001), and cultural competency had a multicultural attitude (r=.65, p<.001). The factors influencing multicultural attitudes were cultural competence (β=.41, p<.001) and multicultural awareness (β=.39, p<.001). These variables explained approximately 52% of the total variance of multicultural attitude. Conclusion: These results suggest that education and various activity programs need to be developed to increase nursing students' awareness and attitudes toward multiculturalism.

Purpose: This study set out to analyze educational support for young children in kindergarten from multicultural families by analyzing field cases of multicultural kindergartens in Seoul as one of the multicultural education policies set by the Ministry of Education and investigating the ways the educational policies were interpreted and implemented. Method: For this purpose, the study analyzed the content of interviews and written opinions about multicultural kindergartens providing multicultural education at eight multicultural kindergartens under the supervision of the Seoul Education Office from the perspectives of parents, teachers, and young children. Results: The findings were as follows. The parents had expectations that all the members of the organization would improve their multicultural perceptions and reduce discriminating perceptions of children from multicultural families through education on cultural diversity in multicultural education programs. By participating in a multicultural education program at a kindergarten, the parents were able to form networks and received help from it for the education of their children. Teachers said that the perceptions of multiculture have improved through this education to promote multicultural understanding. They did have difficulties with the counseling sessions with young children and providing instructions about life at kindergartens due to the lack of communication with their multicultural parents. They requested the development of multicultural teaching materials and tools for young children that are applicable to Korean education and lessons for multicultural parents. The young children were able to form peer relationships and develop their communication skills through multicultural education programs. The kindergarten administrators proposed to provide supplementations in regards to Korean education for multicultural parents due to a shortage of programs for multicultural parents, medical expense support for unregistered children, flexibility in subsidies for policy management, and connections to kindergarten and elementary schools for multicultural children. Conclusion: Today, there are a total of eight multicultural kindergartens in Seoul. The expansion of multicultural kindergartens as part of the multicultural education policies and directions will help to bring up future talents with multicultural capabilities in society and build a mature educational environment where various cultures can coexist.
