Huang, Yu-Hui Jenny,Lee, Yuan-Chin Amy,Li, Qian,Chen, Chien-Jen,Hsu, Wan-Lun,Lou, Pen-Jen,Zhu, Cairong,Pan, Jian,Shen, Hongbing,Ma, Hongxia,Cai, Lin,He, Baochang,Wang, Yu,Zhou, Xiaoyan,Ji, Qinghai,Zho Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.17
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate whether family history of cancer is associated with head and neck cancer risk in a Chinese population. Materials and Methods: This case-control study included 921 cases and 806 controls. Recruitment was from December 2010 to January 2015 in eight centers in East Asia. Controls were matched to cases with reference to sex, 5-year age group, ethnicity, and residence area at each of the centers. Results: We observed an increased risk of head and neck cancer due to first degree family history of head and neck cancer, but after adjustment for tobacco smoking, alcohol drinking and betel quid chewing the association was no longer apparent. The adjusted OR were 1.10 (95% CI=0.80-1.50) for family history of tobacco-related cancer and 0.96 (95%CI=0.75-1.24) for family history of any cancer with adjustment for tobacco, betel quid and alcohol habits. The ORs for having a first-degree relative with HNC were higher in all tobacco/alcohol subgroups. Conclusions: We did not observe a strong association between family history of head and neck cancer and head and neck cancer risk after taking into account lifestyle factors. Our study suggests that an increased risk due to family history of head and neck cancer may be due to shared risk factors. Further studies may be needed to assess the lifestyle factors of the relatives.

The CONSTANS ( CO ) and CONSTANS - like ( COL ) genes have an important role in the regulation of fl owering in photoperiod-sensitive plants. However, information on the molecular characterization of COL genes in Curcuma alismatifoliais very limited. The objective of this study was to identify and evaluate 8 COL homologs ( CaCOLs ) in the C. alismatifoliatranscriptome. Their structures, phylogenetic relationships and expressing patterns under short-day (SD) and long-day (LD)contexts were investigated. Our results showed that CaCOLs were classifi ed into three groups: CaCOL3 and CaCOL6 in groupI were the most CO - like genes; CaCOL7 and CaCOL8 in group II contains only one B-box; CaCOL1 to 2 and CaCOL4 to 5formed the group III. Phylogenetic analysis of the CaCOLs in Arabidopsis, Rice, Barley, Malaccensis and C. alismatifoliademonstrated that both the B-box and CCT domains were conserved in dicot and monocot plants, but diff erent groups ofCOL genes evolved independently. Diff erent patterns of mRNA accumulation in C. alismatifolia leaves in response to SDand LD treatments were observed. CaCOL1 , CaCOL2 , CaCOL4 and CaCOL7 showed signifi cantly higher expressions inLD treatment than that of SD, indicating that they were potential fl owering inducers, and are candidate genes for research infl owering regulation and circadian controlling in C. alismatifolia plants. Altogether, our study facilitates successful regulationof fl owering in Curcuma species and provides insights for future molecular breeding programs.

In the present study, a series of cationic spherical polyelectrolyte brushes (CSPB), consisting of a silicacore and a shell of copolymer of acrylamide (AM) and [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammoniumchloride (METAC), were synthesized. Then a dual-component system which was composed of CSPB andanionic polyacrylamide (APAM) was used to improve the retention and drainage properties of bleachedeucalyptus kraft pulp and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). Comparative researches about retentionand drainage properties between CSPB/APAM system and cationic starch/APAM system wereundertaken as well. Results showed that further improvement in first-pass retention (FPR) of pulp,FPR of PCC and drainage time could be achieved by CSPB/APAM system. It was also found that increase ofshear intensity led to a decrease in retention efficiency, while it had no significant influence on drainagetime of pulp. However, due to the symmetrical or quasi-symmetrical spherical brush structure, CSPB stillshowed better retention efficiency than cationic starch under different turbulent conditions. Furthermore, the flocculation mechanism of the CSPB/APAM dual-component system was proposedin the paper.

Aims: The current study aims to elucidate the treatment efficacy (defined as undetectable HCV RNA throughout 12 weeks of post-treatment follow-up, SVR12) and safety DCV/ASV plus ribavirin for 12 weeks in HCV-1b patients without NS5A RAS. Methods: This is a single-arm, open-label phase 2 study. Seventy directly acting antivirals (DAA)-naïve HCV-1b patients without L31/Y93 RAS are planned to receive daclatasvir (60 mg/ day) and asunaprevir (100 mg twice daily) plus weight-based ribavirin (1000-1200 mg/day) for 12 weeks. After treatment they were followed up for 12 weeks. Results: As of 31 Oct 2017, 58 eligible patients are allocated to treatment, with a mean age of 59.3 years and female predominance (67.2%, 39/58). The mean HCV RNA was 5.87+0.77 log10 IU/mL; 23 patients (39.7 %) had significant hepatic fibrosis (>F2). In the modified intention-to-treat analysis, the rate of undetectable HCV at week 1, week 2, week 4, week 8 and endof- treatment was 25 % (14/56), 84.8 % (39/46), 100 % (46/46), 100 % (38/38) and 100 % (27/27), respectively. Undetectable HCV RNA were observed in all of the patients with HCV RNA assessable 4 weeks (SVR4, 18/18) and 12 weeks (SVR12, 12/12) post treatment. None of the 18 patients who completed the 12-week treatment experienced relapse during post-treatment follow-up. The most common adverse event was fatigue (78.3 %), followed by pruritus (65.2 %) and dizziness (52.2 %), of which were considered as ribavirin related. None of the participating subjects withdrew treatment or follow-up throughout the trial peroid. Three serious adverse events were reported which included urosepsis, appendicitis and left ureteral stone. All were unrelated to the investigating drugs. Conclusions: 12 weeks of DCV/ASV plus ribavirin was highly effective and safe in HCV-1b patients without NS5A RAS in the interim analysis. The satisfactory results would be anticipated in the full patient set.

This study used photochemical reduction to successfully synthesize triangular silver nanoplates (TAgNPs)and silver nanodecahedrons (AgNDs) with higher light-absorption and higher light-scattering properties, respectively, for the same wavelength. To analyze the contribution of light-absorption and lightscatteringof silver nanoparticles to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate was doped with TAgNPs or AgNDs at the same concentration(1.17 lg/cm2) and made into polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs). According to the current densityvoltageluminancecharacteristics and electroluminescence (EL) spectra, the enhancement factors for currentefficiency and EL intensity for AgND-containing PLEDs were found to be higher than those for PLEDwith TAgNPs by 24.9% and 138%, respectively. This shows that the metal nanoparticles with higher lightscatteringproperty can induce a relatively strong LSPR effect, which possibly gives a hint to design plasmonicphotovoltaic in future.

Toona sinensis is a traditional Chinese herb, and the extracts of T. sinensis leaf possess a variety of biological functions. This study attempted to test the antiproliferative effect of TSL-1 (a bioactive fraction of T. sinensis) in H441 cells (lung adenocarcinoma). The data showed that the antiproliferative effect of TSL-1 on H441 cells is prominent using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. TSL-1-induced apoptosis was confirmed by cell morphology, sub-G1 peak accumulation, cleavage of poly(ADP)-ribose polymerase, and propidium iodide-annexin V double staining. Furthermore, decreased Bcl-2 accompanied by increased Bax (in western blotting) was found with TSL-1 treatment of H441 cells. TSL-1 treatment-induced G1 arrest was concurrent with the down-regulation of protein levels of cyclin D1 and cyclin-dependent kinase 4 in H441 cells. Peroral and intraperitoneal administrations of TSL-1 were performed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy, and peroral administration of TSL-1 was also used to elucidate the therapeutic efficacy in the H441 cell xenograft model in vivo. The data revealed that TSL-1 treatment inhibited H441 tumor growth in both therapeutic and preventive experiments. Taken together, these results demonstrate that TSL-1 possesses the capability of preventing and alleviating lung cancer proliferation in vitro and in vivo with proven nephrological and hepatic safety and has the potential to be developed as an anti–lung cancer drug.

( Yu-yen Chen ),( Cheng-chun Huang ),( Ching-yuan Su ),( Yao-chuan Tsai ) 한국농업기계학회 2018 한국농업기계학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.23 No.1
With the technology development, the technique of 3D printing has gradually matured. The characteristic of 3D printing is that it can print the product directly without another complex process. If the 3D printing could be applied to manufacturing sensor elements, it could be quicker and cheaper for the sensor element fabrication and the sensor forms will be applicable. Piezoresistive effect is a common sensor sensing principle which is through the deformation of the material to cause the resistance changes. In this study, a piezoresistive polymer composites material was developed, which can be manufactured by the photo-curable 3D printing. The different amount of the conductive carbon black (CB) nanoparticles was employed and added into photo-curable resin for obtaining the conductive percolation threshold of the polymer composites and measuring the piezoresistivity of the polymer composites. The conductive percolation threshold is around 1.0~1.5wt%, and the gauge factor of 1.5wt% is 9~17. The gauge factor was found which would decrease with the increasing strains. This study can be applied on fabricating the piezoresistive pressure and tactile sensors which can be used to the agricultural, industrial and various industries.

In this paper, a theoretical study on the performance of a small horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) is presented. This research aims to establish a reliable assessment platform for the small HAWT, upon which the design and dynamic analysis for turbine blades and axial-flux permanent magnet generator can be expediently carried out. The predicted results were verified by experiments undertaken in a wind tunnel as well as in outdoor environment. By adopting the model without involving any time-consuming computer simulations, various performance curves were obtained for different designs. Graphical user interface software implementing the proposed model has been developed to facilitate the performance assessment of the complete HAWT system. As a powerful and expedient tool, the developed software helps engineers effectively design a turbine system to be compatible with operation environment.
