IbMYB1, a transcription factor (TF) for R2R3-type MYB TFs, is a key regulator of anthocyanin biosynthesis during storage of sweet potatoes. Anthocyanins provide important antioxidants of nutritional value to humans, and also protect plants from oxidative stress. This study aimed to increase transgenic potatoes` (Solanum tuberosum cv. LongShu No.3) tolerance to environmental stress and enhance their nutritional value. Transgenic potato plants expressing IbMYB1 genes under the control of an oxidative stress-inducible peroxidase (SWPA2) promoter (referred to as SM plants) were successfully generated through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Two representative transgenic SM5 and SM12 lines were evaluated for enhanced tolerance to salinity, UV-B rays, and drought conditions. Following treatment of 100 mM NaCl, seedlings of SM5 and SM12 lines showed less root damage and more shoot growth than control lines expressing only an empty vector. Transgenic potato plants in pots treated with 400 mM NaCl showed high amounts of secondary metabolites, including phenols, anthocyanins, and flavonoids, compared with control plants. After treatment of 400 mM NaCl, transgenic potato plants also showed high DDPH radical scavenging activity and high PS II photochemical efficiency compared with the control line. Furthermore, following treatment of NaCl, UV-B, and drought stress, the expression levels of IbMYB1 and several structural genes in the flavonoid biosynthesis such as CHS, DFR, and ANS in transgenic plants were found to be correlated with plant phenotype. The results suggest that enhanced IbMYB1 expression affects secondary metabolism, which leads to improved tolerance ability in transgenic potatoes.

Chia-Ling Yu,Fu-Chi Yang,Szu-Nian Yang,Ping-Tao Tseng,Brendon Stubbs,Ta-Chuan Yeh,Chih-Wei Hsu,Dian-Jeng Li,Chih-Sung Liang 대한신경정신의학회 2021 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.18 No.10
Objective To systematically examine the effectiveness and tolerability of psilocybin for treating end-of-life anxiety symptoms. Methods The Medline, Embase, CENTRAL, and PsycINFO databases were searched up to November 25, 2020. We enrolled clinical trials investigating psilocybin for treating end-of-life anxiety symptoms. Meta-analysis was conducted using random-effects model. Results Overall, five studies were included, revealing that psilocybin was superior to the placebo in treating state anxiety at 1 day (Hedges’ g, -0.70; 95% confidence interval, -1.01 to -0.39) and 2 weeks (-1.03; -1.47 to -0.60) after treatment. Psilocybin was more effective than placebo in treating trait anxiety at 1 day (-0.71; -1.15 to -0.26), 2 weeks (-1.08; -1.80 to -0.36), and 6 months (-0.84; -1.37 to -0.30) after treatment. Psilocybin was associated with transient elevation in systolic (19.00; 13.58-24.41 mm Hg) and diastolic (8.66; 5.18-12.15 mm Hg) blood pressure compared with placebo. The differences between psilocybin and placebo groups with regard to allcause discontinuation, serious adverse events, and heart rates were nonsignificant. Conclusion Psilocybin-assisted therapy could ameliorate end-of-life anxiety symptoms without serious adverse events. Because of the small sample sizes of the included studies and high heterogeneity on long-term outcomes, future randomized controlled trials with large sample sizes are needed.

The solubility, stability and biocompatible of the fluorescence imaging probes were constructed by self-assembly of CM-QDs and pH-responsive methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(β-amino ester/amidoamine)-dodecylamine (mPEG-PAEA-DDA) multiblock copolymers. The resulting CM-QDs-loaded mPEG-PAEA-DDA micelles (CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA) exhibited lower cell cytotoxicity and higher fluorescence intensity than the core/shell CdSe@ZnS QDs-encapsulated mPEG-PAEA-DDA micelles (CS-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA). Moreover, the in vivo fluorescence imaging ability confirmed that the CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA can be employed as a pH-triggerable targeting imaging probe for detection of a rat bearing cerebral ischemia disease. Therefore, we believed that the CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA may be the next generation of fluorescence imaging probes for targeted diagnosis acidic pathological areas, using pH as a stimulus.

Highlights

CdSe@ZnS/ZnS QDs are synthesized and first applied for bioimaging.

mPEG-PAEA-DDA copolymer showed pH-responsive property and the hydrolysis stability.

CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA exhibited lower toxicity and higher fluorescent intensity.

CM-QDs-PEG-PAEA-DDA has ability to target image for acidic brain ischemic area.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Background : Invitro antioxidant activity, polyphenol and flavonoid aglycone contents in black and green tea products of balloon flower leaves were investigated to provide valuable information for the further development and utilization of resources of Platycodon grandiflorum. Methods and Results : Flavonoid aglycone contents were investigated using HPLC (SHIMADZU, Japan) with a hypersil ODS column (125 mm × 4 mm, 5-μm particle, HP). DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities were measured by method of Lee & Lee (2004) with slight modification. Antioxidant activity, polyphenol and flavonoid contents in green tea were significantly higher than these in black tea. PC analysis indicated that first principal components explained 79.9% of the total variability for five traits investigated. PC2 explained 19.7% of the variation. Conclusion : It can be concluded from these results that these characteristics can reveal the active compound variation of black and green tea products of balloon flower leaves. These results provide scientific evidence for the utilization of balloon flower leaves.
Semantic colorization with internet images
Chia, Alex Yong-Sang,Zhuo, Shaojie,Gupta, Raj Kumar,Tai, Yu-Wing,Cho, Siu-Yeung,Tan, Ping,Lin, Stephen Association for Computing Machinery 2011 ACM transactions on graphics Vol.30 No.6

Colorization of a grayscale photograph often requires considerable effort from the user, either by placing numerous color scribbles over the image to initialize a color propagation algorithm, or by looking for a suitable reference image from which color information can be transferred. Even with this user supplied data, colorized images may appear unnatural as a result of limited user skill or inaccurate transfer of colors. To address these problems, we propose a colorization system that leverages the rich image content on the internet. As input, the user needs only to provide a semantic text label and segmentation cues for major foreground objects in the scene. With this information, images are downloaded from photo sharing websites and filtered to obtain suitable reference images that are reliable for color transfer to the given grayscale photo. Different image colorizations are generated from the various reference images, and a graphical user interface is provided to easily select the desired result. Our experiments and user study demonstrate the greater effectiveness of this system in comparison to previous techniques.

Showkat, Ali Md.,Zhang, Yu-Ping,Kim, Min Seok,Kim, Sang-Ho,Choi, Seong-Ho,Lee, Kwang-Pill The Korean Society of Analytical Science 2004 분석과학 Vol.17 No.1
Trace amount of uranyl (II) has been determined spectrophotometrically by measuring the optical density of the light blue yellowish coloured solutions formed by reaction between the metal ion and nicotinohydroxamic acid (NHx) in presence of different secondary ligands in strong isoamyl alcohol alkaline medium. The absorption maxima for both aqueous and extracted systems measured at their respective optimum pH were found to be 360 and 559 nm (DETA), 375 and 358 nm (EDA), 369 and 362 nm (piperidine), 354 and 341 nm (pyridine) and 363 and 336 nm (3 piperidine), 354 and 341 nm (pyridine) and 363 and 336 nm (3 - picoline), respectively at which Beer's law was obeyed. Effect of pH, reagent concentration, order of addition of reagent, time, temperature and solvent media on the absorption spectra have also been studied. Among the different systems studied, the shortest concentration range of uranyl(II) adhering to Beer's Law was 2.4 - 10.5 ppm observed for $UO_2(II)$ - NHx - DETA system in aqueous medium and also for iso amyl alcohol(IAA) extracted $UO_2$ - NHx - pyridine system was 2.4 - 7.8.

Graphic Abstract
Needle work: AlN/ZnO and GaN/ZnO coaxial nanoneedle heterostructures (see TEM image) have a higher secondary electron emission (SEE) yield (σ) than thin films of AlN and GaN deposited on Si substrates. The dependence of the SEE on the incidence angle of the beam indicates that these heterostructures do not follow the power law. The σ value of the heterostructures is enhanced by the inherited nanostructure from the ZnO nanoneedle template.
