Improved Water Classification Using an Application-oriented Processing of Landsat ETM+ and ALOS PALSAR

Xiaohong Xiao,Shimon Wdowinski,Yonggang Wu 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Control and Automation Vol.7 No.11

The aim of this study is to extract water body using the integrated features of Landsat ETM+ and ALOS PALSAR data. Water body extracted from Landsat ETM+ tends to lose smaller water bodies like small rivers and ponds. Besides, water area with plant (lotus) is difficult to recognize. ALOS PALSAR data have a much higher resolution, capable of extracting almost all the water bodies without confusion with other surface features, but leave some holes in water bodies due to its speckles. As a consequence, there is a significant interest in the development of fusion methods that are able to take advantage of the complementary nature of Landsat ETM+ and ALOS PALSAR data. A new combination method of integrating band 3, band 7 of Landsat ETM+ with a modified HH polarization of ALOS PALSAR is proposed, which well combine the complementary water information from each source compared to the standard image fusion methods. Experimental outcomes of the proposed combination B37ModHH shows great enhancement in water classification accuracy compared to Landsat ETM+ and ALOS PALSAR alone.

Ozone infusiblization and curing mechanism of polysilazane ceramic precursor fibers

        Li Xiaohong,Luo Xiaoyu,Li Jing,Li Jinxia,Yang Jiahao,Ahmad Zahoor,Bao Zhihao,Zhang Xiao,Chen Jianjun 한국세라믹학회 2023 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.60 No.5

An appropriate infusible method plays a vital role as one of the key processes of the fabrication of polymer-derived ceramic fibers. In this work, ozone curing, a novel room temperature controllable curing strategy was used to prepare SiCN ceramic fibers. Some circular pores were observed on the surface of the obtained SiCN ceramic fibers. The tensile strength of the fibers was also investigated. To reveal the ozone-curing mechanisms of the PSZ fibers and the formation process of the circular pores, the FT-IR, SEM, OM, XRD and TG were characterized. The results showed that the Si–H bonds and Si-CH3 groups in the PSZ molecule were oxidized gradually to form oxygen-containing groups such as Si–OH, Si–O-Si and C = O in the ozone curing process, which contributed to the curing and weight gain of the PSZ fibers. Moreover, a hydrolysis reaction between Si-NH-Si and H2O might further accelerate the curing of the PSZ fibers. An unexpected result of the hydrolysis reaction is the formation of some circular pores on the surface layer of the PSZ fibers. This strategy provides a method to design, adjust and control the microstructure and composition of silicon-based ceramic fibers, and the obtained SiCN fibers may be used as catalyst support, bacterial culture and other fields.

Numerical investigation on the recirculation in annular jet pumps

        Longzhou Xiao,Xinping LONG,Xiaohong Li,Qinglong Zeng,Xuelong Yang 대한기계학회 2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.6

The flow within the annular jet pump (AJP), in some degree, resembles the annular wall jet developing in a pipe with great axial pressure gradient. In some working conditions, there exists the backflow near the centerline. However this differs from the case in a center jet pump (CJP) that the recirculation emerges near the inner wall of the throat. The recirculation in AJP affects a lot to its performance, especially when AJP is utilized to convey something alive, such as fish. This paper aims to numerically study the impact of two parameters, the flow ratio M and the area ratio A, on the location, size and formation of the recirculation in AJP. After being validated by the experimental results, the RNG k-ε turbulent model was adopted. It is found that: (1) As M increases, the width and height of the recirculation in AJP decreases, and the separation point of the recirculation shifts gradually far away from the nozzle exit while the reattachment point slightly moves; (2) As A becomes larger, the width and height of the recirculation enlarged, with M keeping constant; (3) For AJP with constant A, the recirculation emerges when M declines to a critical value, and the value varies linearly with A; (4) The Craya-Curtet number Ct and the momentum ratio J, which take A and M into whole consideration, are also feasible in describing the disappearance of the recirculation. However the critical value of Ct and J are different from that discovered in CJP. The critical Ct increases with decreasing A and the critical momentum ratio Jc experiences a linear relationship with A.

Changes in Protein Phosphorylation during Salivary Gland Degeneration in Haemaphysalis longicornis

        Qi Xiao,Yuhong Hu,Xiaohong Yang,Jianna Tang,Xiaoshuang Wang,Xiaomin Xue,Mengxue Li,Minjing Wang,Yinan Zhao,Jingze Liu,Hui Wang 대한기생충학ㆍ열대의학회 2020 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.58 No.2

The ticks feed large amount of blood from their hosts and transmit pathogens to the victims. The salivary gland plays an important role in the blood feeding. When the female ticks are near engorgement, the salivary gland gradually loses its functions and begins to rapidly degenerate. In this study, data-independent acquisition quantitative proteomics was used to study changes in the phosphorylation modification of proteins during salivary gland degeneration in Haemaphysalis longicornis. In this quantitative study, 400 phosphorylated proteins and 850 phosphorylation modification sites were identified. Trough RNA interference experiments, we found that among the proteins with changes in phosphorylation, apoptosis-promoting Hippo protein played a role in salivary gland degeneration.

Double hysteresis loops induced by Mn doping in Pb0.99Nb0.02(Zr0.95Ti0.05)0.98O3 ferroelectric ceramics

        Meng Jiang,Xuhai Li,Jiliang Zhu,Xiaohong Zhu,Wei Shi,Lihua Li,Dingquan Xiao,Jianguo Zhu 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.2

Pb0.99Nb0.02(Zr0.95Ti0.05)0.98O3 (PNZT95/5) ceramics with 1 mol% and without Mn doping were prepared via conventional solid state reaction process. X-ray diffraction patterns show that the PNZT95/5 and Mn-doped PNZT95/5 (PNZTM95/5) ceramics, with composition near the boundary of the ferroelectric phase (FE)/antiferroelectric phase (AFE), have a rhombohedral perovskite structure. The ferroelectric behavior of PNZT95/5 ceramics is strongly affected by Mn doping. Without any aging process the PNZTM95/5 ceramics possess double hysteresis loops (P–E loops), whereas the PNZT95/5 ceramics possess normal single hysteresis loops. Due to the defect dipoles formed by effectively negatively charged Mn3+ dopants and positively charged O2- vacancies, the PNZTM95/5 ceramics exhibit the double P–E loops. The defect dipole effect has been proved by investigating the P–E loops under different external fields. As a result, the PNZTM95/5 ceramics become ‘‘hardened”, exhibiting a high mechanical quality factor (1300).

Enrichment of Wee1/CDC2 and NF-κB Signaling Pathway Constituents Mutually Contributes to CDDP Resistance in Human Osteosarcoma

        Zhengbo Hu,Lugen Li,Wenxing Lan,Xiao Wei,Xiangyuan Wen,Penghuan Wu,Xianliao Zhang,Xinhua Xi,Yufa Li,Liqi Wu,Wenhu Li,Xiaohong Liao 대한암학회 2022 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.54 No.1

Purpose Osteosarcoma (OS) universally exhibits heterogeneity and cisplatin (CDDP) resistance. Although the Wee1/CDC2 and nuclear factor кB (NF-κB) pathways were reported to show abnormal activation in some tumor cells with CDDP resistance, whether there is any concrete connection is currently unclear. We explored it in human OS cells. Materials and Methods Multiple OS cell lines were exposed to a Wee1 inhibitor (AZD1775) and CDDP to assess the half-maximal inhibitory concentration values. Western blot, coimmunoprecipitation, confocal immunofluorescence, cell cycle, and Cell Counting Kit-8assays were performed to explore the connection between the Wee1/CDC2 and NF-κB pathways and their subsequent physiological contribution to CDDP resistance. Finally, CDDP-resistant PDX-OS xenograft models were established to confirm that AZD1775 restores the antitumor effects of CDDP. Results A sensitivity hierarchy of OS cells to CDDP and AZD1775 exists. In the highly CDDP-tolerant cell lines, Wee1 and RelA were physically crosslinked, which resulted in increased abundance of phosphorylated CDC2 (Y15) and RelA (S536) and consequent modulation of cell cycle progression, survival, and proliferation. Wee1 inhibition restored the effects of CDDP on these processes in CDDP-resistant OS cells. In addition, animal experiments with CDDP-resistant PDX-OS cells showed that AZD1775 combined with CDDP not only restored CDDP efficacy but also amplified AZD1775 in inhibiting tumor growth and prolonged the median survival of the mice. Conclusion Simultaneous enrichment of molecules in the Wee1/CDC2 and NF-κB pathways and their consequent coactivation is a new molecular mechanism of CDDP resistance in OS cells. OS with this molecular signature may respond well to Wee1 inhibition as an alternative treatment strategy. • Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization Combined with Interferon-α is Safe and Effective for Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma after Curative Resection

        Zuo, Chaohui,Xia, Man,Liu, Jingshi,Qiu, Xiaoxin,Lei, Xiong,Xu, Ruocai,Liu, Hanchun,Li, Jianliang,Li, Yongguo,Li, Qinglong,Xiao, Hua,Hong, Yuan,Wang, Xiaohong,Zhu, Haizhen,Wu, Qunfeng,Burns, Michael,Li Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.1

Objectives: Intrahepatic recurrence is the major cause of death among patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after curative surgical resection. Several approaches have been reported to decrease the recurrence rate. The objective of our study was to compare the clinical effects of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with interferon-alpha (IFN-${\alpha}$) therapy on recurrence after hepatic resection in patients with HBV-related HCC with that of TACE chemotherapy alone. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data from 228 patients who were diagnosed with HBV-related HCC and underwent curative resection between January 2001 to December 2008. The patients were divided into TACE (n = 126) and TACE-IFN-${\alpha}$ (n = 102) groups for postoperative chemotherapy. The TACE regimen consisted of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), cisplatin (DDP), and the emulsion mixed with mitomycin C (MMC) and lipiodol. The recurrence rates, disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and risk of recurrence were evaluated. Results: The clinicopathological parameters and adverse effects were similar between the 2 groups (P > 0.05). The median OS for the TACE-IFN-${\alpha}$ group (36.3 months) was significantly longer than that of the TACE group (24.5 months, P < 0.05). The 3-and 5-year OS for the TACE-IFN-${\alpha}$ group were significantly longer than those of the TACE group (P < 0.05) and the recurrence rate was significantly lower (P < 0.05). The TACE and IFN-${\alpha}$ combination therapy, active hepatitis HBV infection, the number of tumor nodules, microvascular invasion, liver cirrhosis, and the BCLC stage were independent predictors of OS and DFS. Conclusions: The use of the TACE and IFN-${\alpha}$ combination chemotherapy after curative hepatic resection safely and effectively improves OS and decreases recurrence in patients with HBV-related HCC who are at high risk. Our findings can serve as a guide for the selection of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with HBV-related HCC who are at high risk of recurrence.

Experimental Research on a Hypersonic Configuration with Blunt Forebody Edges

Xiao, Hong,Xu, Zhe-Zhu,Kim, Lae-Sung,Li, Dong-yang,Lyu, Sung-Ki Korean Society for Precision Engineering 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.16 No.10

A design method, for hypersonic forebody configuration with blunt edges, was developed by lift body and waverider. Experimental study was conducted. It was showed that the difference of pressure coefficient, at centre-line and side-line on forebody pre-compression surface, was between 2.5% and 16.7% within the Mach number 5 to 7 and attack angle 0 to 12. These differences were slightly bigger than those of non-blunt-edges forebody. However, experimental data also show that the present configuration can achieve the closed shockwave, and can also realize the automatic overflow of boundary layer on forebody pre-compression surface. It is also observed that the present forebody gets a good aerodynamic performance at high Mach numbers. But with increasing attack angle, the advantage was weakened gradually. And, at the degree of side-slip exceeding 8, the side-line pressure is higher than that of center-line, which indicates that the forebody boundary layer does not achiev automatically overflowing to side surface.
