Spatially resolved, quantitative, non-destructive analysis using synchrotron x-ray reflectivity (XR) with subnano-scale resolution was successfully performed on the nanoporous organosilicate thin films for low dielectric applications. The structural information of porous thin films, which were prepared with polymethylsilsesquioxane and thermally labile 4-armed, star-shaped poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) composites, were characterized in terms of the laterally averaged electron density profile along with a film thickness as well as a total thickness. The thermal process used in this work caused to efficiently undergo sacrificial thermal degradation, generating closed nanopores in the film. The resultant nanoporous films became homogeneous, well-defined structure with a thin skin layer and low surface roughness. The average electron density of the calcined film reduced with increase of the initial porogen loading, and finally leaded to corresponding porosity ranged from 0 to 22.8% over the porogen loading range of 0-30 wt%. In addition to XR analysis, the surface and the inner structures of films are investigated and discussed with atomic force and scanning electron microscopy images.

오원태 ( Weontae Oh ),최규연 ( Gyuyeon Choi ) 한국복합재료학회 2021 Composites research Vol.34 No.5
Graphene oxide can be reduced to graphene under supercritical fluid condition even without using a specific reducing agent or applying a high thermal process. In this study, a process for converting graphene oxide into graphene was studied under supercritical fluid conditions in methanol and ethanol solvents. When the structure of asprepared graphene was analyzed by using FE-SEM and XRD, the reduction of graphene oxide in supercritical fluid condition was more affected by the change of solvent than other variables such as concentration of graphene oxide and reaction time. The use of ethanol showed better results for the reduction than the use of methanol. The graphene prepared in this study was mixed with epoxy resin up to 20 wt.% to make composites, and the thermal conductivity of the composites were analyzed. Thermal conductivity of the composite increased proportionally with graphene loadings. The graphene prepared in supercritical ethanol condition was more effective on the thermal conductivity of the composite.
Cloning, Purification and NMR Studies on β-catenin C-terminal Domain

${\beta}-catenin$ is a key signaling protein which regulates cell signaling and gene transcription. Abnormal activation of ${\beta}-catenin$ is linked to many cancers, particularly with colorectal cancers. Although many genetic and biological studies on $Wnt/{\beta}-catenin$ have been reported and structures of the complex between ${\beta}-catenin$ and its diverse binding partners have been published, many of them have focused on armadillo repeat domain of ${\beta}-catenin$. Both N- and C-terminal domains have been suggested to regulate interactions of ${\beta}-catenin$ with other molecules, but still little is known about the C-terminal unstructured domain. To investigate the structure of this domain, construct of C-terminus was designed and structural studies were performed using size exclusion chromatography (SEC), circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. We observed that not only the purified full-length construct but the purified C-terminal construct also dimerizes in solution by SEC, suggesting that this domain involves in dimerization of ${\beta}-catenin$. CD and fluorescence data indicate its flexibility and structural formation in the presence of membrane environments.

The miscibility and the mechanism for thermal nanopore templating in films prepared from spin-coating and subsequent drying of homogenous solutions of curable polymethylsilsesquioxane dielectric precursor and thermally labile, reactive triethoxysilyl-terminated four-armed poly(ϵ-caprolactone) porogen were investigated in detail by in situ two-dimensional grazing incidence small-angle x-ray scattering analysis. The dielectric precursor and porogen components in the film were fully miscible. On heating, limited aggregations of the porogen, however, took place in only a small temperature range of 100–140 ?C as a result of phase separation induced by the competition of the curing and hybridization reactions of the dielectric precursor and porogen; higher porogen loading resulted in relatively large porogen aggregates and a greater size distribution. The developed porogen aggregates underwent thermal firing above 300 ?C without further growth and movement, and ultimately left their individual footprints in the film as spherical nanopores.

Heating films were prepared with composites of poly (methyl methacrylate) and conductive graphite. The as-prepared composite was deposited on a PET film and then fabricated using a bar coater to produce a film with uniform thickness. Copper electrodes were attached to both ends of the as-prepared film, and the heating characteristics of the film were analyzed while applying a DC voltage. The electrical conductivity and heating temperature of the heating films depended on the size, structure, content, and the dispersion characteristics of the graphite in the composite. The thermal energy was adjusted by controlling the electrical energy, based on the Joule heating theory. The electrical resistance of the film was altered in proportion to Ohm's law, and the heating temperature was changed according to the structure of the film (interelectrode spacing or electrode length) and the conductive graphite content. When the content of conductive graphite in the film increases, the electrical resistance decreases, and the heating temperature increases; however, there is no significant change above a certain content (50%).
Electrochemical Oxidations of Alcohols on Platinum/Carbon Nanotube Composites
Kim, Jungsoo,Nam, Dae-Geun,Oh, Weontae The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2013 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.14 No.3
Composites of platinum and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared in various reduction conditions and characterized using cyclic voltammetry. The MWNTs were functionalized with carboxylic acid and/or hydroxyl groups in acidic solutions prior to the formation of MWNT-Pt composites. Platinum nanoparticles were deposited onto the chemically-oxidized MWNTs in 1-propanol and 1,3-propanediol. The reduction of Pt precursors in other solutions could induce differences in their morphologies in composite thin films. The morphologies of MWNTs with Pt deposited were dependent on the reduction solutions, and the electrocatalytic activities on alcohols changed accordingly. The electrochemical activities of the as-prepared MWNT-Pt thin films on common alcohols such as methanol and ethanol were investigated.
Refractive Indexes of Porous Thin Films Prepared From Organic-templated Polymethylsilsesquioxanes
Kim, Jung-Soo,Nam, Dae-Geun,Oh, Weontae The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic 2014 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.15 No.6
Organosilyl-modified and star-shaped poly (${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) (m-PCL) was prepared, and added to polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSSQ), to make composites. The end groups of m-PCL are chemically similar to PMSSQ, and m-PCL mixed well with PMSSQ in the composite. Porous PMSSQ film was made by further calcination of the composite film at elevated temperature. m-PCL-templated PMSSQ and the as-prepared porous PMSSQ were structurally, optically, and thermally characterized in thin films. The chemical binding of m-PCL and PMSSQ effectively suppressed the phase separation of PMSSQ and m-PCL during the curing process. After calcination at elevated temperature, there remained many pores in the PMSSQ matrix. The refractive indices of the resulting porous PMSSQ thin films decreased with increase of the film porosities, depending on the initial m-PCL loadings.

김정수,Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani,김동민,이문호,염정현,고창현,김양도,Jong-Seong Bae,Weontae Oh 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.2
Gold-decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared by electrostatic interaction in solution states and they have been studied in detail with UV/Vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Gold nanoparticles and their composites showed the similar surface plasmon absorptions. XPS results were in good agreement with the composite morphologies of TEM images. HOMO/LUMO energies and the energy band gaps of MWNTs in their composites were analyzed by CV measurements.
