<P>Six conodont and one fusuline zones are recognized on basis of a total of 25 conodont and 13 fusuline species (including seven unidentified species or species given with cf. or aff. in total) from the Bamchi Formation, Yeongwol, Korea. The conodont zones include the Streptognathodus bellus, S. isolatus, S. cristellaris, S. sigmoidalis, S. fusus and S. barskovi zones in ascending order, which can be correlated with the conodont zones spanning the uppermost Gzhelian to Asselian Age of the Permian globally. The fusuline zone is named the Rugosofusulina complicata-Pseudoschwagerina paraborealis zone. The co-occurrence of the conodont Streptognathodus isolatus (the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point index for the base of Permian) and Pseudoschwagerina (a Permian inflated fusuline) indicates that the Carboniferous-Permian boundary can be placed in the lower part of the Bamchi Formation in South Korea.</P>
A Study on the Correlation between the Corporate Value and M&As’ Goodwill

Based on the financial report data from 2007 to 2014 reported by non-financial listing Corporations which listed on China's A shares, studying the impact the M&As' goodwill on the corporation performance and analyzing the regulation effects the acquirer’s property right played on the relationship between the goodwill and the company performance. We found that M&As' goodwill has significant effects on the performance of the combined party in current and lagged period, with no obvious correlation between the company's performance of the second, three or four and five period, but in the sixth period both have a significant negative correlation. Further studies have found that comparing with state-owned enterprises, the goodwill cost paid by the private listed enterprises has a bigger impact to improve the performance of the acquire.

Placenta-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (PMSCs) provide a promising cell source for tissue regeneration. However, rapid induction of PMSC chondrogenic differentiation during therapeutic transplantation remains extremely challenging. Here we undertook a study to determine if Notch inhibition by soluble Jagged1 (JAG1) peptides could be utilized to accelerate PMSC-induced cartilage regeneration in a mouse post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) model. Our results showed that treatment of PMSCs with soluble JAG1 significantly enhanced chondrogenesis in culture as shown by increased alcian blue staining and decreased Notch target Hes1 expression when compared to those in lgG-treated control cells. Importantly, significantly enhanced cartilage formation and decreased joint inflammation were observed when JAG1-treated PMSCs were injected into mouse PTOA knee joints. Finally, in vivo cell tracing showed that more JAG1-treated PMSCs remained in knee joint tissues and that JAG1-treated PMSCs exhibited greater PMSC chondrogenic differentiation than lgG-treated control PMSCs at 4 weeks after injection. These data indicate that transient Notch inhibition by soluble JAG1 could be used to enhance PMSC survival and chondrogenic differentiation, thereby increasing the therapeutic potential of PMSCs for cartilage regeneration.

With a corpus-assisted discourse analysis (CADA) on South China Sea (SCS) issues in Chinese, American, and Philippine newspapers over the past 10 years, this paper aimed to reveal ways of representing the SCS issues from three leading newspapers (China Daily, the Manila Times, and the New York Times) and expound the complicated relations between language use and the historical-socio-political contexts, which, in the end, provides valuable context for the study of the dispute between Japan and South Korea as well as other significant issues. The synchronic and diachronic analyses of the issues from 2010 to 2019 were conducted through a synergy of critical discourse analysis (CDA) and corpus linguistics (CL). The results showed that the representations in China Daily are generally cooperative negotiation-oriented. Those in the Manila Times were inclined toward being proactively and radically oriented during the Aquino III period, while they were moderately oriented during the Duterte period, which is characterized by instability. Those in the New York Times showed a tendency be militarization- and internationalization-oriented. The method used in this study enabled us to find semantic fields within text corpora to explore political issues connected to relevant countries.
Self-weighted quantile estimation of autoregressive conditional duration model

An efficient market is often related to the market liquidity in a certain sense. In this paper, the autoregressive conditional duration (ACD) model is used for modeling and analyzing the market liquidity based on high-frequency financial data, which takes the volume duration as its measure index. Considering the high peak and heavy tail of high-frequency financial data, the self-weighted quantile regression (SQR) estimators for the unknown parameters in ACD model are constructed. The consistency and asymptotic properties of the estimators are proved. Furthermore, Monte Carlo simulation shows that the SQR estimators with data-driven weights are more accurate than those by traditional quantile regression (QR). Moreover, the performance of SQR estimation performs better with the increase of the proportion of outliers. The mean deviation and mean square error are reduced up to 96.24% and 91.83%, respectively. Finally, we illustrate the SQR method by an empirical analysis of the volume duration for Industrial And Commercial Bank Of China (ICBC) and PingAn Bank stocks in China. Through the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and other evaluation criteria, the SQR estimators at different quantiles all possess better performance.

Novel small-molecule polysaccharide fractions,named POP II and POP III, were purified from Portulacaoleracea L. with average Mw values of 9.25 and 8.03 kDa,respectively. Monosaccharide analysis revealed that POP IIwas composed of Rha, Ara, Man, Glc, and Gal with molarratios of 1: 1.42: 0.44: 0.88: 1.59. POP III was composedof Rha, Ara, Glc, and Gal with molar ratios of 1: 1.16:0.23: 0.59. The antioxidant activities of the fractions wereevaluated using cell-free and cell-mediated radical generatingsystems. POPII and POP III possessed strong antioxidantactivities in both systems. The 2 novel polysaccharidefractions extracted from P. oleracea L. can be developed asnatural antioxidants for treatment of free radical-relateddiseases.

Optimization of ultrasonic extraction of Portulaca oleracea L. flavonoids (POF) was investigated using single-factor experimentation combined with response surface methodology. The optimal conditions for the highest yield (16.25 mg RE/g DW) of POF was 39.01% ethanol, $55.25^{\circ}C$ extraction temperature, 15 min extraction time, and 23.92 (v/m) liquid-to-solid ratio. The crude extract of POF was purified on the polyamide resin. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, a yellow tetrazole assays of the flavonoids were evaluated, which suggested the concentrations of the flavonoids (0-1 mg/mL) and quercetin (0-1 mg/mL). Quercetin was identified in the extract by comparing relative retention time of the reference standard.
Compositional meanings in Chinese subtitle translation: A multimodal analysis of Mulan

While roles of semiotic interplay in subtitle translation have been widely acknowledged, scant research has been done to examine how visual and verbal modes really interact with each other to produce a coherent and cohesive whole of a subtitled film. Drawing on the concepts of compositional meanings and semiotic cohesion informed by systemic functional linguistics, this paper conducts a multimodal analysis of the Chinese subtitles in an English language film Mulan, focusing on examining compositional meanings from three aspects: types, functions of semiotic interrelations and impacts on linguistic parts of subtitles. This paper finds that co-referentiality (Halliday and Hasan 1985) is the most predominant cohesive relation between subtitle and image, which exerts more impacts on linguistic parts relating to identification of subtitles. This finding can be seen in two implicit encoding devices of anaphora and cataphora. It suggests that a subtitling unit is not limited to a filmic unit of shot, but goes far beyond it, which contributes to maintaining the narrative flow in subtitled films. These findings deserve to be further explored in examination of subtitling practice and construction of theoretical models in this growing field of research.
Computational design towards energy efficient optimization in overconstrained robotic limbs

Legged robots are constantly evolving, and energy efficiency is a major driving factor in their design. However, combining mechanism efficiency and trajectory planning can be challenging. This work proposes a computational optimization framework for optimizing leg design during basic walking while maximizing energy efficiency. We generalize the robotic limb design as a four-bar linkage-based design pool and optimize the leg using an evolutionary algorithm. The leg configuration and design parameters are optimized based on user-defined objective functions. Our framework was validated by comparing it to measured data on our prototype quadruped robot for forward trotting. The Bennett robotic leg was advantageous for omni-directional locomotion with enhanced energy efficiency.
