An Eustoma grandiflorum APETALA1 (EgAP1) gene showing high homology to the SQUA subfamily of MADS-box genes was isolated and characterized. EgAP1, containing a conserved euAP1 motif at the C-terminus, showed high sequence identity to Antirrhinum majus SQUAMOSA in the SQUA subfamily. EgAP1 mRNA was detected in the leaf and expressed significantly higher in young flower buds than in mature flower buds. In flowers, EgAP1 mRNA was strongly detected in sepal, weakly detected in petal and was absent in stamen and carpel. Transgenic Arabidopsis plants ectopically expressing EgAP1 flowered early and produced terminal flowers. In addition, the conversion of petals into stamen-like structures was also observed in 35S::EgAP1 flowers. 35S::EgAP1 was able to complement the ap1 flower defects by restoring the defect for sepal formation and significantly increasing second whorl petal production in Arabidopsis ap1 mutant plants. These results revealed that EgAP1 is the APETALA1 homolog in E. grandiflorum and that the function of EgAP1 is involved in floral induction and flower formation.

With the aim of examining the effects of implementing international financial reporting standards (IFRS) on teaching accounting and auditing at universities and colleges in Vietnam, a case study was conducted at 30 universities, colleges, and 208 lecturers in Vietnam. Next, the study employed the structural model analysis method by PLS_SEM software to process and analyze the collected data. The research results show that: (1) There are eight factors that affect how IFRS is applied to teaching, including the training program, (ii) teaching staff, (iii) IFRS application regulations, (iv) related party requirements, (v) faculty/school administrators, (vi) teaching aids, (vii) IFRS teaching methods, and (iii) students; (2) there are three factors that affect the quality of teaching staff, including applying IFRS to teaching at the university and colleges, (ii) Regulations on the application of IFRS, (iii) Requirements from related parties. At the same time, the study also shows that, regarding the indirect relationships, applying IFRS to teaching does not play an intermediary role in these relationships. However, at the 10% significance level, it was found that there is an indirect relationship between regulations on the application of IFRS by the Ministry of Finance and the quality of teaching staff through the variable applying IFRS to teaching.
An Energy Harvester Based on a Bistable Origami Mechanism
Tien-Hoang Ngo,I-Ting Chi,Minh-Quang Chau,Dung-An Wang 한국정밀공학회 2022 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.23 No.2
This paper describes a vibration energy harvester based on an origami mechanism through piezoelectric energy conversion. The device is capable of broadband energy harvesting from low frequency ambient vibrations. This design utilizes bistability inherent in the waterbomb base origami structure to increase the bandwidth of its frequency response. The folding along the crease pattern of the origami mechanism can facilitate large bending deformations of piezoelectric films to generate high electric power output. The compact size and light weight of the origami mechanism render it convenient for integration into various hosts subjected to vibrations. Performance of the origami mechanism is investigated under external excitations with various vibration magnitudes and acceleration levels. This work demonstrates a scheme of broadband vibration energy harvesting by integration of an origami structure with piezoelectric materials. A high fractional bandwidth of 40% is attained under a sinusoidal excitation with a peak acceleration of 0.1 g.
Design of a Cost Effective Soil Monitoring System to Support Agricultural Activities for Smallholder
Tien Cao-Hoang,Trong Tinh Pham Van,Can Nguyen Duy 한국디지털융합학회 2017 IJICTDC Vol.2 No.2
The moisture, temperature and electrical conductivity of soil are the important properties for agriculture. It is necessary to monitor such data in order to support the agricultural activities, especially improve the yield and reduce the irrigation water. However, the currently commercialized monitoring systems are too expensive for the smallholder who has less than two hectares of farmland. The objective of this study is to develop a cost effective system for monitoring the soil data, which consists of a monitoring device and a web-based application. The monitoring device measures the soil information every one hour and then transmits such data to the cloud for storing and visualizing. The system has been testing in the experiment field to evaluate the system’s stability.
A Rapid Screening of Ligand Binding by Measuring Intrinsic Fluorescence Changes of Proteins
Tien Duc Nguyen,정광준,류주연,정제훈 대한화학회 2017 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.38 No.9
High-throughput analysis of genomic and proteomic information lead to large numbers of target molecules. The bottlenecks are generally subsequent verification steps, which require development of efficient screening tools. Protein–protein and protein–ligand interactions constitute the basis of most biological processes in living organisms. In general, proteins are labeled with fluorescent dyes to enhance sensitivities and the fluorescence changes are widely utilized for determining protein–protein and protein–ligand bindings. This study is to demonstrate that the intrinsic fluorescence of proteins by tryptophan and tyrosine and its change accompanied by ligand binding is sufficiently sensitive for studying protein–ligand interactions. Malate dehydrogenase catalyzes inter-conversion of oxaloacetate and NADH to malate and NAD+, respectively. Malate did not change the fluorescence of malate dehydrogenase. But, the dissociation constants (KD) for NADH and NAD+ could be measured by fluorescence changes and they are comparable to KM determined by enzyme kinetics. The high KD (1.5 mM) for oxaloacetate agreed well with the ordered Bi Bi mechanism of malate dehydrogenase, in which NADH bound first and generated a binding site for oxaloacetate. The dissociation constant for cyclic di-GMP to malate dehydrogenase was also determined by fluorescence changes and it was comparable to that collected from computational molecular docking analysis. The KD for cyclic di-GMP to methionine aminopeptidase, glycerol dehydrogenase, and peptidase B could also be determined by intrinsic fluorescence changes as 58, 58, 52 μM, respectively. These results suggest that the intrinsic fluorescence of proteins by tryptophan and tyrosine is sensitive enough to determine protein–ligand interactions. It provides a label-free, quick-and-easy tool for screening the ligands to proteins.
Three-dimensional kinematics of beetle wings in free flight
Tien Van Truong,Hieu Trung Tran,Tuyen Quang Le,Hoon Choel Park,Doyoung Byun 대한기계학회 2009 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2009 No.11
In this study, the 3D kinematics parameters of of Allomyrina dichotoma has been obtained by using 3D reconstruction from two synchronized, the high speed cameras digitalized marked points on the wings. Wing tip trajectory, attack angle and camber deformation are presented. Beetle flaps at 38Hz with flapping angle of 165 degree, the angle of attack varies significant along the spanwise direction in free flight condition. In addition, camber deformation changes greatly with time at difference section. These characteristics highlight the extraordinary flexibility of beetle’s hindwing compared with other insects: honeybee, dragonfly. Furthermore, the interaction between the elytron and the hind wing through the leading edge vortex (LEV) and trailing edge vortex (TEV) generation and development are figured out through the smoke wire visualization technique.
Estimation of Hydrodynamic Derivatives of Full-Scale Submarine using RANS Solver
Tien Thua Nguyen,Hyeon Kyu Yoon,Youngbum Park,Chanju Park 한국해양공학회 2018 韓國海洋工學會誌 Vol.32 No.5
It is necessary to predict hydrodynamic derivatives when assessing the maneuverability of a submarine. The force and moment acting on the vehicle may affect its motion in various modes. Conventionally, the derivatives are determined by performing captive model tests in a towing tank or applying a system identification method to the free running model test. However, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method has also become a possible tool to predict the hydrodynamics. In this study, virtual captive model tests for a full-scale submarine were conducted by utilizing a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver in ANSYS FLUENT version 18.2. The simulations were carried out at design speed for various modes of motion such as straight forward, drift, angle of attack, deflection of the rudder, circular, and combined motion. The hydrodynamic force and moment acting on the submarine appended rudders and stern stabilizers were then obtained. Finally, hydrodynamic derivatives were determined, and these could be used for evaluating the maneuvering characteristics of the submarine in a further study.
