        Heart Failure Is Associated with Increased Risk of Long-Term Venous Thromboembolism

        Background and Objectives: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), consisting of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), is highly prevalent in in-hospital HF patients and contributes to worse prognoses. However, the risk of VTE in out-patients with HF in long-term period is controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between HF and the risk of VTE in a long-term follow-up duration. Methods: We searched for studies investigating the risk of VTE, PE, and DVT in patients with HF before April 15, 2020, in PubMed, MEDLINE, and Embase databases. Cohort studies and post hoc analysis of RCTs were eligible for inclusion if they reported relative risk of VTE, DVT or PE in patients with HF in more than 3-month follow-up period. Results: We identified 31 studies that enrolled over 530,641 HF patients. Overall, patients with HF were associated with an increased risk of VTE (risk ratio [RR]=1.57, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.34–1.84) and PE (RR=2.00, 95% CI=1.38–2.89). However, the risk of DVT was not significantly increased in HF patients (RR=1.33, 95% CI=0.67–2.63). Subgroup analysis showed that patients with chronic HF (RR=1.54, 95% CI=1.32–1.80) had a higher risk of VTE than those with acute HF (RR=0.95, 95% CI=0.68–1.32). Conclusions: In conclusion, HF was an independent risk for VTE and PE but not DVT in a long-term follow-up period. Patients with chronic HF were prone to suffer from VTE than acute HF.

        Spatio-temporal Semantic Features for Human Action Recognition

        Most approaches to human action recognition is limited due to the use of simple action datasets under controlled environments or focus on excessively localized features without sufficiently exploring the spatio-temporal information. This paper proposed a framework for recognizing realistic human actions. Specifically, a new action representation is proposed based on computing a rich set of descriptors from keypoint trajectories. To obtain efficient and compact representations for actions, we develop a feature fusion method to combine spatial-temporal local motion descriptors by the movement of the camera which is detected by the distribution of spatio-temporal interest points in the clips. A new topic model called Markov Semantic Model is proposed for semantic feature selection which relies on the different kinds of dependencies between words produced by “syntactic” and “semantic” constraints. The informative features are selected collaboratively based on the different types of dependencies between words produced by short range and long range constraints. Building on the nonlinear SVMs, we validate this proposed hierarchical framework on several realistic action datasets.

        Characterization of a Stress-induced NADP-isocitrate Dehydrogenase Gene in Maize Confers Salt Tolerance in Arabidopsis

        In this paper, a full-length cDNA-encoding cytosolic nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphatedependent isocitrate dehydrogenase was isolated from maize and named ZmICDH. Analysis of the deduced protein sequence revealed that this gene had considerably high homologies with other plant ICDH genes such as those from rice, Arabidopsis and poplar. The gene was transcribed in all tissues tested, with the highest amount of transcript in root. Subcellular localization results indicated that ZmICDH was localized in cytosol. In an attempt to further understand the role of ZmICDH in maize, the functional characterization of the gene was conducted. The results indicated that the expression of ZmICDH was induced by drought and salt stresses. ZmICDH enhanced salt tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis.

        A facile, green synthesis of biomass carbon dots coupled with molecularly imprinted polymers for highly selective detection of oxytetracycline

        Biomass carbon dots (CDs) prepared by sweet potato peels were superior fluorophores with low toxicity and excellent photostability. A novel designed fluorescence probe for specific recognition and sensitive detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) was fabricated with CDs and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The quenching of CDs happened when rebinding with OTC due to electron-transfer-induced fluorescence quenching mechanism. The fluorescence probe was successfully applied in honey with the recoveries ranging from 90.2% to 97.3%. The detection limit of OTC was 15.3 ng mL−1. This work provides promising perspectives that the development of fluorescent MIP will be valuable for rapid analysis in complex samples.

        Combined Application of Dentin Noncollagenous Proteins and Odontogenic Biphasic Calcium Phosphate in Rabbit Maxillary Sinus Lifting

        BACKGROUND: Teeth can be used as a raw material for preparing bone substitutes due to their similar chemical composition to bone. The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of odontogenic biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) incorporating dentin noncollagenous proteins (DNCPs) on osteogenesis and stability in maxillary sinus augmentation. METHODS: The composition, structure and morphology of the odontogenic BCP were tested by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, and scanning electron microscopy methods. The biocompatibility and osteoinduction of DNCPs and materials were examined in vitro and their bone regeneration capacity was verified in vivo. RESULTS: The results showed that the cells adhered and proliferated well on the DNCP-loaded BCP scaffold. The odontogenic BCP and DNCPs promoted osteogenic differentiation of cells, The new bone formation in the BCP groups and DNCP subgroups was significantly higher than the new bone formation in the control, and the new bone quality was better. The bone regeneration effect of odontogenic BCP was similar to the effect of deproteinized bovine bone mineral, but b- TCP did not maintain the height and volume of bone reconstruction. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the combined application of DNCPs and odontogenic BCP is an effective strategy for tissue engineering osteogenesis in the maxillary sinus region. The biomimetic strategy could provide a new approach for patients requiring maxillary sinus lifting.

        Ion-imprinted antifouling nanocomposite membrane for separation of lithium ion

        Membrane fouling is a primary challenge restricting the practical application of membrane separation technology. Inspired by the idea that improving hydrophilicity would lead to antifouling performance of membrane material. In this work, ion-imprinted antifouling nanocomposite membrane (LiI-NcMs) blended with GO and TiO2 nanomaterialwas fabricated for selective separation of lithium ion. As a result, markedly improved hydrophilicity was achievedon LiI-NcMs (55.1o for contact angle). LiI-NcMs also showed good selective adsorption capacity in the mixed solutionof Mg2+ and Li+. Moreover, LiI-NcMs exhibited superior stability; after 20 adsorption/desorption cycles a maximumadsorption capacity of 88.1% can be maintained. This work demonstrates a new and facile approach to prepare novelmembrane separation material for a particular substance for efficient selective separation in industrial applications.

        De novo transcriptome analysis of stressed blood clam (Anadara broughtonii) and identification of genes associated with hemoglobin

        Background Blood clam (Anadara broughtonii) is a commercially important marine bivalve characterised by the red blood. Recently, the clams have been subjected to severe resource recession. Multiple environmental stressors are indispensable for the recession. Objective We aimed to investigate the transcriptome information of blood clam under environmental stressors. Methods Paired-end Illumina HiSeq™ 2500 sequencing technology was employed for cDNA library construction and Illumina sequencing. Several public databases were introduced for gene annotation, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) database was used for pathways analyses. The Open Reading Frame of annotated hemoglobin (Hb) was predicted and validated by DNAMAN 6.0 and NCBI BLASTx, respectively. Results A total of 242,919 transcripts were generated, 116,264 unigenes were subsequently assembled with an average length of 747 base pairs, and 33,776 unigenes were successfully annotated. Gene Ontology (GO) categories indicated that the terms of cellular processes, metabolic processes, cell, cell part, binding, and catalytic activity were dominant. KEGG pathway analyses suggested ribosome, oxytocin, focal adhesion, Ras, and PI3K-Akt were the largest signaling pathway groups, and many presented pathways (Ras, Rap1, and MAPK, etc.) were related to apoptosis, immune and stress response. In addition, a total of 19,306 potential simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were detected in 15,852 sequences. Six hemoglobin-related genes with complete conserved domain sequences were identified and 3 of them were predicted as HbI, HbIIα, and HbIIβ. Conclusion This study provides transcriptome responses to multiple environmental stressors in blood clams and would provide interesting hints for further studies.

        Design of the flexible switching controller for small PWR core power control with the multi-model

        Small PWR can be used for power generation and heating. Considering that small PWR has the characteristics of flexible operating conditions and complex operating environment, the controller designed based on single power level is difficult to achieve the ideal control of small PWR in the whole range of core power range. To solve this problem, a flexible switching controller based on fuzzy controller and LQG/LTR controller is designed. Firstly, a core fuzzy multi-model suitable for full power range is established. Then, T-S fuzzy rules are designed to realize the flexible switching between fuzzy controller and LQG/LTR controller. Finally, based on the core power feedback principle, the core flexible switching control system of small PWR is established and simulated. The results show that the flexible switching controller can effectively control the core power of small PWR and the control effect has the advantages of both fuzzy controller and LQG/LTR controller.
