EFFECT OF TOP END CONDITION OF FUEL BED CONTAINER ON DOWNWARD SMOLDER SPREAD

An experimental study was performed of natural-convection downward smolder spread across a sawdust bed peripherally enclosed with an insulating container, to examine the effect of the open- ing condition at the top end on downward smolder spread. Experiments were conducted by using relatively coarse sawdust and 25-cm-long cylindrical container The variations of temperature profiles along the bed axis with time were determined far different opening conditions and were com-pared with those in smolder spread from open top to open bottom. It was shown that the smolder zone initiated from open top toward closed bottom penetrates the bed with keeping high peak temperature like the case of open top to open bottom spread, although mean spread rate is smaller. This indicates that the downward smolder zone can be sustained stably if sufficient air or oxygen Is supplied from the back of it by natural convection even if upward draft entering from the bottom of the bed is absent. When the top end was partially closed by mounting a cover after stable smolder spread had begun from open top toward open bottom, the temperature at the peak decreased more than 200 K and the smolder zone became to spread with thickening residue. In this case, the shape of temperature profiles continuously changed or decayed until end-effect at the open bottom end enhanced the reaction. The temperature at the shrunk peak, free from the end-effect, was almost identical with the temperature at the exothermic oxidative-degradation zone in smolder spread from open top to open bottom. from these results, it can be inferred for natural-convection downward smolder spread that the oxidation reaction of the char is very sensitive to the oxygen supply by natural convection in the space above the smolder zone, and that the top end opening condition strongly alters the completeness of reactions, structure, and behavior of the smolder zone.

New green-emitting Sr4ScAl3O10:Eu2+ phosphor was prepared using a novel melt quenching synthesis method. The temperatureof raw materials irradiated with the strong light of the Xe arc-lamp was rose up to about 2273 K, followed by a sharp dropin the temperature after turn off the lamp. This method is a useful tool for rapid screening of novel phosphor materials.

Novel polymers having hole transport ability were prepared by condensation polymerization of triphenylamine derivatives (TPAs) and aldehydes such as paraformaldehyde (FA) or benzaldehyde (BzA). The polymers synthesized had high glass transition temperature in the range of 172-239℃ and were soluble in common organic solvents. The polymers had hole mobility in the range of 10^-5 to 10^-6 ㎠/Vs. The electroluminescent (EL) devices were fabricated using polymers prepared from N, N'-diphenyl -N, N'-bis(4-methylphenyl)-(1,1'-biphenyl)4,4'-diamine (TPD) as a hole transport layer and aluminum trisquinolinol as an electron transporting and emitting layer. It had turn on voltage of 4V and maximum luminance of 10⁴ cd/㎡, which correspond to the device using low molecular weight compound.

<P>We report a novel soft chemical synthesis method, water assisted solid state reaction (WASSR) method. This method is very simple and can synthesize many ceramic materials just by storing or mixing raw materials added a small amount of water in a reactor at low temperature below 373 K. For example, well-crystalline SrMoO4 was obtained using the WASSR method.</P>

The objectives of the present study were to examine the antioxidant activity of autofocusing fractions from egg white protein hydrolysates and obtain higher antioxidant peptide fraction, which could be applied to the food model system. Alkaline protease hydrolysate of egg white protein exerted higher antioxidant activities than other protein hydrolysates and were fractionated on the basis of the amphoteric nature of sample peptides by preparative isoelectric focusing without toxic solvents and reagents, which is termed autofocusing. Neutral and basic fractions showed higher 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity than the acidic fractions. The acidic and neutral fractions showed higher hydroxyl (OH) radical scavenging activity and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) values than the basic fractions. The acidic fractions showed higher metal chelating activity than basic fractions. Antioxidant activities of some autofocusing fractions except for ORAC showed higher compared to the crude hydrolysate. These results suggest that peptides fractions from egg white protein are effective antioxidant, and that autofocusing could be useful to increase antioxidant activity for application to food system.

음 배리어 프리(acoustic barrier-free)는 ``음과 관련하여 장애인과 고령자의 생활에 불편을 주는 장벽을 제거하는 방안``이라고 정의 된다. 음 배리어프리는 건축, 도시 공간 및 교통 수단에서의 시각 또는 청각약자를 위한 안내, 유도, 경보 및 피난 시설에 대한 설계와 관련된다. 또한 보청기 등의 청각지원기기, 전자기기 등의 신호음 및 안내음과 음성 전송 장치와 같은 제품 디자인에도 음 배리어프리 개념은 요구된다. 본고에는 일본사례를 중심으로 음 배리어프리의 현황을 소개하고자 한다.
