OBJECTIVES: Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease that occurs worldwide, with a wide range of complications in immunocompromised patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii among patients undergoing hemodialysis in Iran. METHODS: We searched English and Persian databases for studies reporting T. gondii seroprevalence in Iranian hemodialysis patients through December 31, 2017. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. RESULTS: A total of 10 studies containing 1,865 participants (1,048 patients and 817 controls) met the eligibility criteria. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against T. gondii were found in 58% (95% confidence interval [CI], 46 to 70) of hemodialysis patients and 40% (95% CI, 31 to 50) of healthy controls, while immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies were found in 2% (95% CI, 0 to 6) of hemodialysis patients and 0% (95% CI, 0 to 1) of healthy controls. The meta-analysis showed that hemodialysis patients were significantly more likely to be seropositive for IgG (odds ratio [OR], 2.04; 95% CI, 1.54 to 2.70; p<0.001) and IgM (OR, 2.53; 95% CI, 1.23 to 5.22; p<0.001) antibodies against T. gondii infection than healthy individuals. CONCLUSIONS: The current study revealed a high prevalence of T. gondii infection in hemodialysis patients. Since hemodialysis patients are immunocompromised and T. gondii can cause serious clinical complications, we recommend that periodic screenings for T. gondii infection should be incorporated into the routine clinical care of these patients.

Undoubtedly, high temperature is one of the most risk factors that aggravate corrosion, which can greatlyaffect the lifespan of metal substrates. Hence, high temperature corrosion control now become one of theexciting research hotspot for researchers. For corrosion prevention, the application of corrosion inhibitorsis one of the easy and practical ways and with the emergence of nanomaterials, smart inhibitors has beenremarked as a milestone in corrosion science. In this study, layered double hydroxide (LDH) nano-carrierencapsulated gallic acid (GA) was applied to control steel corrosion in high temperature 3.5% NaCl salineenvironment. The structural evaluation of this nanocomposite has been done with the help of X-raydiffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) tests and theresults have confirmed the successful synthesis of this nanocomposite. Then, polarization test predictedthe inhibition mechanism and the results shown the mixed inhibition is responsible for 68% and 60% ofcorrosion controlled in 35 and 45 environment, respectively. But in order to better evaluation, the performanceof the nanocomposite has been checked via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)evaluations. Based on the studies, it has been found that high temperature has severely limited the performanceof the pristine GA, but LDH/GA nanocomposite has been able to achieve 72% efficiency at 35 Cand 58% efficiency at 45 C. Finally, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) captures aidedto assess the morphology of immersed surfaces at different temperatures and Energy Dispersive X-RayAnalysis (EDX)/MAP tests estimated the elemental structure of the samples.
NEW ORBITAL PARAMETERS AND RADIAL VELOCITY CURVE ANALYSIS OF SPECTROSCOPIC BINARY STARS

We use a Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) technique to derive the orbital parameters of spectroscopic binary stars. Using measured radial velocity data of five double-lined spectroscopic binary systems (i.e., EQ Tau, V376 And, V776 Cas, V2377 Oph and EE Cet), we find the corresponding orbital and spectroscopic elements. Our numerical results are in good agreement with those obtained by other groups via more traditional methods.

Liquid-liquid equilibrium data for poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) K30+K2HPO4+H2O system were measured at 298.15 K and different pH values (7.54, 8.05, and 9.47). A binodal curve was fitted to the Merchuk equation and the tie line compositions were fitted to both the Othmer-Tobias and Bancroft equations. The refractive indices and densities of several homogeneous binary and ternary solutions used for calibration were also measured within a range of 0-30 mass% of PVP and 0-50 mass% of K2HPO4. Then, the viscosities, densities, electrical conductivities, and refractive indices of binary (PVP K30+water; potassium phosphate+water) and ternary (PVP K30+potassium phosphate+ water) systems were measured and correlated at different pH values. The density data showed a linear variation of the polymer and salt mass fractions. The viscosity data of PVP K30 solutions were correlated as a function of the mass fractions by using a nonlinear equation. The effects of the tie line lengths on the densities and viscosities of the aqueous two-phase systems were represented. Also, the modified UNIFAC-NRF is used to calculate the phase equilibria of the mention system. The fitted binary interaction parameters of the model were reported.

The current study employed response surface methodology (RSM) with a face-centered central composite design (CCD) to indicate the essential variables on the partition coefficient of guanidine hydrochloride (GuHCl) in the poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG)-phosphate aqueous two-phase system (ATPS). To evaluate the partition coefficients of GuHCl in the mentioned ATPS, the pH (7.0, 8.5 and 10.0), GuHCl concentration (1.0, 3.5 and 6.0% w/w), PEG molecular weight (2,000, 4,000 and 6,000 gmol−1) and PEG/potassium phosphate concentrations ratio were selected as independent variables. A quadratic model is suggested to find the impact of these variables. The suggested model has a strong harmony with the experimental data. The results of the model display that the GuHCl concentration and weight percent of the salt in feed have a large and small influence on the GuHCl partitioning.

Feature outcome of hippocampus and extra-hippocampal cortices was evaluated in melatonin treated lithiumpilocarpine epileptic rats during early and chronic phases of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). After status epilepticus (SE) induction, 5 and 20 mg/kg melatonin were administered for 14 days or 60 days. All animals were killed 60 days post SE induction and the histological features of the rosrto-caudal axis of the dorsal hippocampus, piriform and entorhinal cortices were evaluated utilizing Nissl, Timm, and synapsin I immunoflorescent staining. Melatonin (20 mg/kg) effect on CA1 and CA3 neurons showed a region-specific pattern along the rostro-caudal axis of the dorsal hippocampus. The number of counted granular cells by melatonin (20 mg/kg) treatment increased along the rostro-caudal axis of the dorsal hippocampus in comparison to the untreated epileptic group. The density of Timm granules in the inner molecular layer of the dentate gyrus decreased significantly in all melatonin treated groups in comparison to the untreated epileptic animals. The increased density of synapsin I immunoreactivity in the outer molecular layer of the dentate gyrus of untreated epileptic rats showed a profound decrease following melatonin treatment. There was no neuronal protection in the piriform and entorhinal cortices whatever the melatonin treatment. Long-term melatonin administration as a co-adjuvant probably could reduce the post-lesion histological consequences of TLE in a region-specific pattern along the rostro-caudal axis of the dorsal hippocampus.

Purpose: Epidemiologic evaluation and investigating the causes of visual impairment in any society is a matter of concern and has a direct effect on the country`s health care planning. In this study we describe causes of low vision and blindness in Iranian patients referred to rehabilitation clinics for taking vision aids. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, visual acuity was classified based on best-corrected visual acuity in the better eye according to the World Health Organization definition (blindness, visual acuity [VA]<20/400; severe visual impairment, VA<20/200-20/400; mild to moderate visual impairment, VA<20/60-20/200). The causes of blindness and low vision were determined using the 10th version of International Classification of Diseases based on the main cause in both eyes. To describe data, we used mean±SD and frequency. Results: The study included 432 patients, 65% male, with a mean age of 43.6±25.5 years (range, 3 to 92 years). Mild to moderate visual impairment, severe visual impairment and blindness were present in 122 (28.8%), 196 (46.4%) and 105 (24.8%) of the patients, respectively. The main causes of visual impairment were retinal and choroidal diseases (74.5%), optic nerve and optic tract diseases (9.8%), vitreous and globe disorders (5.3%), congenital cataract (3.1%), and glaucoma (2.6%). The distribution pattern of the causes was similar in all age subgroups. Conclusions: Diseases of the retina and choroid are the main cause of visual impairment among patients referred to an academic visual rehabilitation clinic in Iran.
