The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidative effects of Rhodiola sachalinensis Rhodiola methanol extract was fractionated sequentially with dichloromethane and butanol. Each Rhodiola fraction (water, MeOH, BuOH and CH_2Cl_2 fractions) showed the potent superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and had inhibitory effets on peroxide value of linoleic acid (40~57%) and lipid peroxidation (47~70%) in FE^2+/ascorbate system-induced rat liver microsome. Rhodiola methanol extract also recovered carbon tetrachloride-induced decrease in SOD by 42% and catalase activities by 50%, and had inhibitory effects (54%) on carbon tetrachloride-induced lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsome. These results suggest that Rhodiola sachalinensis has the antioxidative effects.

This study examines the effects of lightemitting diode (LED) light and temperature on lettuce growth. For plant growth, we used an LED bar composed of red, white and blue LEDs (4:1:2). Six types of cultivation equipment were used to measure the temperature. To compare their effects, the heights of the lettuces and the water temperatures were measured. The results demonstrated that the lettuce growth was optimal at 25ºC.

조명식 및 발광형 안전표지 확대적용 및 규격에 관한 연구

최근에 조명의 기술이 발전하면서 에너지 효율이 좋고, 수명이 반영구적이라 평가되는 LED를 사용한 조명식 또는 발광식 안전표지가 설치되고 있으나, 그 설치범위가 제한되어 있고, 업체별로 구현하는 방법이 상이하여 이에 대한 적절한 통제와 기준의 필요성이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 설치가능 표지가 한정되어 있는 표지에 대하여 그 확대적용 가능성에 대한 현장실험을 수행한 결과, 시인거리는 조명식 및 발광형 표지가 반사식 표지에 비해 평균 55.7% 증가하였으며, 판독거리는 평균 73.1% 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 운전자의 선호도는 조명식 및 발광형표지에 대한 선호도가 79.3%로 나타나났다. 따라서 조명식 및 발광형 표지를 선별된 지점에 확대설치한다면 그 설치 타당성은 충분하다고 판단된다. 또한 본 연구에서는 국제적인 규격을 검토하여, 휘도, 색도 등 광학적인 기준을 제시하였으며 투과성 재귀반사시트의 사용으로 조명식 표지의 최소소비전력을 600 mm 원형신호등의 경우에 20W로 정할 것을 제안하였으며 기타 역률, 총고조파 함유율 등의 전기적인 특성도 국제기준에 적합하도록 제시하였다.

Precolumn orthophthaldehyde (OPA) labeling method of sphingoid bases, sphingosine and sphinganine, was investigated to obtain high fluorescent detectability. In order to improve the fluorescent yield, we investigated the optimal solubility of sphingoid bases for five pre-incubation solvents by incorporating the heating procedure before OPA derivatization. The pre-incubation in ethanol prominently increased the fluorescent peak height of OPA derivative for each sphingoid bases in high performance liquid chromatography. About tenfold increase of detectability was archived by pre-incubating lipid extracts pellets in ethanol at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Optimal derivatization was performed in 30 min at ambient temperature and the fluorescent intensity of OPA derivative was stable for two weeks at $4^{\circ}C$. The detection limit of sphingosine was 0.1 pmol as injected amount. This method was applied to the determination of cellular sphingosine and sphinganine in various human lung cancer cells. This OPA procedure was prospective to be useful for quantitating the amount of sphingoid bases in other cancer cells.
