This paper deals with the problem of the global stabilization for a class of tension leg platform (TLP) nonlinear control systems. It is well known that, in general, the global asymptotic stability of the TLP subsystems does not imply the global asymptotic stability of the composite closed-loop system. Finding system parameters for stabilizing the control system is also an issue need to be concerned. In this paper, we give additional sufficient conditions for the global stabilization of a TLP nonlinear system. In particular, we consider a class of NN based Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy TLP systems. Using the so-called parallel distributed compensation (PDC) controller, we prove that this class of systems can be globally asymptotically stable. The proper design of system parameters are found by a swarm intelligence algorithm called Evolved Bat Algorithm (EBA). An illustrative example is given to show the applicability of the main result.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Increased levels of uremic toxins and decreased antioxidant capacity have a significant impact on the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, it remains unclear whether they interact with each other to mediate the damage of kidney function. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether uremic toxins (i.e., homocysteine and indoxyl sulfate [IS]), as well as glutathione-dependent antioxidant enzyme activities are dependently or independently associated with kidney function during different stages of CKD patients. SUBJECTS/METHODS One hundred thirty-two patients diagnosed with CKD at stages 1 to 5 participated in this cross-sectional study. RESULTS Patients who had reached an advanced CKD stage experienced an increase in plasma uremic toxin levels, along with decreased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity. Plasma homocysteine, cysteine, and IS concentrations were all positively associated with each other, but negatively correlated to GSH-Px activity levels after adjusting for potential confounders in all CKD patients. Although plasma homocysteine, cysteine, IS, and GSH-Px levels were significantly associated with kidney function, only plasma IS levels still had a significant association with kidney function after these parameters were simultaneously adjusted. In addition, plasma IS could interact with GSH-Px activity to be associated with kidney function. CONCLUSIONS IS plays a more dominant role than homocysteine and GSH-Px activity in relation to kidney function.

In this work, we developed a-SiOx:H(n) and μc-SiOx:H(n) films as ntypelayer, intermediate reflecting layer (IRL), and back-reflectinglayer (BRL) to improve the light management in silicon thin-filmsolar cells. In the development of SiOx:H films, by properly adjustingthe oxygen content of the films, the optical bandgap of μc-SiOx:H(n)can be increased while maintaining sufficient conductivity. Similareffect was found for a-SiOx:H(n). In a-Si:H single-junction cells, employing a-SiOx:H(n) as the replacement for a-Si:H(n) resulted in arelative efficiency enhancement of 11.4% due to the reduced parasiticabsorption loss. We have also found that μc-SiOx:H(n) can replaceback ITO layer as BRL, leading to a relative efficiency gain of 7.6%. For a-Si:H/a-Si1-xGex:H tandem cell, employing μc-SiOx:H(n) asIRL increased the current density of top cell. In addition, employinga-SiOx:H(n) as a replacement of a-Si:H(n) in the top cell increasedthe current density of bottom cell due to the reduction of absorptionloss. Combining all the improvements, the a-Si:H/a-Si1-xGex:Htandem cell with efficiency of 9.2%, VOC = 1.58 V, JSC = 8.43 mA/cm2, and FF = 68.4% was obtained.

The pace of globalization has been accelerated along with the surge in free trade agreements (FTA) among various nations. Facing the emergence of global value chains, companies need to integrate the flows of manufacturing goods and international trades more dynamically with other participants in the entire supply chain. The increasing growth of international transportation requires the third party logistics to provide delivery services more timely and efficiently. This case study describes how a third-party logistics company tried to develop new value-added services utilizing the free trade zone (FTZ) in Taiwan with its customer by simplifying associated shipping processes from manufacturing to retailing across multiple locations.
