<P>Herein we report molecular shape-dependent nonspecific labeling of photoaffinity linkers (PLs) in the cellular proteome. Linear PLs have a greater tendency to engage in nonspecific binding than branched PLs. Exploiting this property, we discovered a smaller branched diazirine-based PL as the best photoaffinity probe with minimal nonspecific binding characteristics from among 5 probes with different PLs.</P>
Hospital Visits from Respiratory Diseases of Early and Late Preterm Infants

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the respiratory illness-related hospital visits (out-patient clinics, emergency room, and re-admission) of preterm infants, and compare them according to corrected age and prematurity. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of preterm infants born at <37 weeks of gestation admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Inha University Hospital between January 2012 and June 2015. Infant follow-up appointments in both neonatology and pulmonology out-patient clinics occurred for at least 2 years after NICU discharge. Results: The proportion of infants who visited the hospital due to any respiratory illness was as high as 50% until 12 months of corrected age, and subsequently decreased over time. Hospital admission was significantly higher in early preterm infants (<34 weeks of gestation) compared to late preterm infants (≥34 and <37 weeks of gestation). The proportion of infants who were re-admitted due to lower respiratory tract illness was significantly higher until 6 months of corrected age compared to the later, and did not differ between early and late preterm infants. Conclusion: The proportion of hospital visits of preterm infants due to respiratory disease was high until 12 months of corrected age. Most notably, the re-admission proportion from lower respiratory tract illness was high under 6 months in both early and late preterm infants. Preterm infants within this age that are visiting the hospital with respiratory symptoms should be carefully observed and followed up.

Ficus vasculosa Wall. ex Miq. (FV) has been used as a herbal medicine in Southeast Asia and its antioxidant activity has been shown in previous studies. However, it has not yet been elucidated whether FV exerts anti-inflammatory effects on activated-macrophages. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the ameliorative property of FV methanol extract (FM) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses and the underlying molecular mechanisms in RAW264.7 macrophages. The experimental results indicated that FM decreased the production of inflammatory mediators (NO/PGE2) and the mRNA/protein expression of iNOS and COX-2 in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. FM also reduced the secretion of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1 in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Results also demonstrated that FM improved inflammatory response in LPS-stimulated A549 airway epithelial cells by inhibiting the production of cytokines, such as IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α. In addition, FM suppressed MAPK activation and NF-κB nuclear translocation induced by LPS. FM also upregulated the mRNA/protein expression levels of heme oxygenase-1 and the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 in RAW264.7 cells. In an experimental animal model of LPSinduced acute lung injury, the increased levels of molecules in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid were suppressed by FM administration. Collectively, it was founded that FM has anti-inflammatory properties on activated-macrophages by suppressing inflammatory molecules and regulating the activation of MAPK/ NF-κB signaling.

IT 기술 발전은 일반 사용자에게 편리함을 제공할 뿐만 아니라 장애인에게도 영향을 미치고 있다. 장애인을 위한 IT 기술은 장애 종류에 따라, 오감, 가상현실, 또는 인지과학 등의 학문과 연계하여 발전하고 있다. 특히, 사고에 의해서 또는 선천적으로 눈만 움직일 수 있는 장애인들에게 효율적으로 컴퓨터와 상호작용할 수 있도록 눈을 이용한 시스템도 개발되었다. 그러나 이와 같은 시스템은 가격대가 높고, 효율적이지 못하다. 따라서 본 논문은 지체장애인들 또는 특정 질병을 겪고 있는 환자들의 정보 접근성 또는 의사소통의 질을 높이기 위하여 카메라로 입력된 눈 깜박임 영상을 단점(ㆍ)과 장점(-)으로 분류한 후 모르스 코드를 이용하여 컴퓨터 화면에 글자를 입력하고, 출력하는 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템을 통해 지체장애자, 감금 증후군 등의 심각한 질병을 겪고 있는 사람들이 자유롭게 의사소통을 전달할 수 있다 Advances in IT technologies not only make common people convenient but also have affected disabled persons for their lifes. IT technologies for disabled persons have developed in conjunction with five senses, virtual reality, and cognitive sciences. Especially, text input methods with eyes for those who have severe physical disability have been developed. Current devices which uses eye blinking patterns, eye tracking, or eye gaze automatically detect the duration of one's eye blinking pattern and are able people to type on their computer. However, current devices are not affordable for most of the people with physical disability. In addition, current devices have so many targets that some people have difficulty in using them. Thus, this paper suggests a text input method with eyes, which can reduce the number of targets so that disabled persons can be easy to type and make its costs less.
