Two new species of Camellia (Theaceae) are described from Vietnam: Camellia vuquangensis Luong, Tran & L. T. Nguyen and Camellia hatinhensis Luong, Tran & L. T. Nguyen. The new taxa were col- lected from Vu Quang National Park in the center of Vietnam. The new finds are morphologically dissimilar to all known Camellia species. Recent Camellia discoveries have increased the number of species recorded in Viet- nam from 50 to 75, making Vietnam a center of diversity and a crucial area for more research into the diversity and distributions of Camellia.

Backgrounds/Aims: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy (Ps–AH) based on portal ramification of the right anterior section (RAS) is a new technique to avoid unnecessarily transecting too much liver parenchyma, especially in cases of major anatomical hepatectomy. Methods: We prospectively assessed 26 patients with primary hepatic malignancies having undergone major Ps–AH based on portal ramification of the RAS from August 2018 to August 2022 (48 months). The perioperative indications, clinical data, intra-operative index, pathological postoperative specimens, postoperative complications, and follow-up results were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Among the 26 patients analyzed, there was just one case that had intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma The preoperative level of α– Fetoprotein was 25.2 ng/mL. All cases (100%) had Child–Pugh A liver function preoperatively. The ventral/dorsal RAS was preserved in 19 and 7 patients, respectively. The mean surgical margin was 6.2 mm. The mean surgical time was 228.5 minutes, while the mean blood loss was 255 mL. In pathology, 5 cases (19.2%) had microvascular invasion, and in the group of HCC patients, 92% of all cases had moderate or poor tumor differentiation. Six cases (23.1%) of postoperative complications were graded over III according to the Clavien–Dindo system, including in three patients resistant ascites or intra-abdominal abscess that required intervention. Conclusions: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy based on portal ramification of the RAS to achieve R0-resection was safe and effective, with favorable short-term outcomes. This technique can be used widely in clinical practice.

본 논문은 동북아시아 지역에서 에너지와 전력의 개발 및 교역에 대하여 최근의 보고서를 개괄적으로 요약하고, 유망한 관련 협력사업을 조망한다. 본 논문은 또한 동북아시아 국가의 에너지수급 전망을 평가하고, 역내의 총 일차에너지 수요가 향후 적지 않게 증가할 것으로 판단하고 있다. 한편, 환경보호에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라 청정에너지 수요는 높은 신장세를 나타낼 가능성이 있다. 이 결과, 역내 이웃 국가 특히 일본과 한국은 동부 러시아의 풍부한 천연가스 및 전력 자원을 활용함으로써 중동지역에 대한 에너지 의존도를 절감하는 둥 여러 가지 편익을 가져 올 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 본 논문은 동북아시아 역내 국가로 구성되며 정기적으로 개최되는 ”동북아 에너지협력 실무협의회”의 창설을 권고한다. 동 협의회는 다자간 에너지협력에 대한 기본적 구상에 대하여 공감대를 조성, 확산시킬 수 있으며, 투자의 촉진 및 보호, 자유롭고 공정한 에너지교역 등에 대한 원칙 확립에 기여할 수 있다. “조건부 공약” 방안을 다자간 기본 구상의 테두리 내에서 실천하는 것은 폭넓은 다자간 대화를 성공적으로 이끄는 토대가 될 수 있다. 국제연합 아시아 태평양 경제사회 위원회 (ESCAP)는 국제연합의 여러 기구와 협력하여 상기한 협의회의 사무국 역할을 수행 할 수 있을 것이다.
Almost periodic solutions of periodic second order linear evolution equations

The paper is concerned with periodic linear evolution equations of the form $x''(t)=A(t)x(t)+f(t)$, where $A(t)$ is a family of (unbounded) linear operators in a Banach space $X$, strongly and periodically depending on $t$, $f$ is an almost (or asymptotic) almost periodic function. We study conditions for this equation to have almost periodic solutions on ${\mathbb R}$ as well as to have asymptotic almost periodic solutions on ${\mathbb R}^+$. We convert the second order equation under consideration into a first order equation to use the spectral theory of functions as well as recent methods of study. We obtain new conditions that are stated in terms of the spectrum of the monodromy operator associated with the first order equation and the frequencies of the forcing term $f$.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The first ever shipboard measurements for atmospheric particulate mercury (Hg(p)) over the Yellow Sea and ground measurements for atmospheric Hg(p) and total mercury (THg) in precipitation at the remote sites (Deokjeok and Chengshantou) and the urban sites (Seoul and Ningbo) surrounding the Yellow Sea were carried out during 2007–2008. The Hg(p) regional background concentration of 56.3 ± 55.6 pg m<SUP>−3</SUP> over the Yellow Sea region is much higher than the typical background concentrations of Hg(p) in terrestrial environments (<25 pg m<SUP>−3</SUP>) which implies significant impact of anthropogenic mercury emission sources from East Asia. The episodes of highly elevated Hg(p) concentrations at the Korean remote site were influenced through long-range transport from source regions in the Liaoning Province - one of China's most mercury-polluted regions and in the western region of North Korea. Interestingly, wet scavenging of atmospheric Hg(p) is the predominant mechanism regulating concentration of THg in precipitation at the Chinese sites; whereas, wet scavenging of gaseous oxidized mercury (GOM) might play the more important role than that of Hg(p) at the Korean sites. The highest annual wet and dry deposition fluxes of Hg were found at the Ningbo site. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study evaluated short- and long-term exposure of activated sludge (AS) microbiome to cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), a quaternary ammonium compound widely used as biocidal additive or cationic surfactant. Toxicity assay in batch mode showed that CPC (50 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>) inhibited cell growth. However, in a continuous reactor, CPC concentration in the range of 50–500 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP> did not result in any observable impact on the biological activities of the AS microbiome. Similarly, 16S rRNA gene-based community profiling revealed that CPC had no observable impact on microbial diversity. At the phylogenetic structure, <I>Rhodobacter</I> (15 ± 7% of the total) and <I>Asticcacaulis</I> (9 ± 3%) were the only two phyla with increasing population in the 500 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>-exposed reactors. This was also supported by an observation of no major change in the community structure. The reactors could remove >60% of CPC at initial concentrations of 50–500 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>, primarily by adsorption and biodegradation. The enrichment of <I>Rhodobacter</I> and <I>Asticcacaulis</I> genus might contribute to CPC biodegradation and emerge as a potential microbial niche for the removal of CPC.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Activated sludge (AS) biological function was resilient to continuous CPC exposure. </LI> <LI> Up to 500 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP> CPC did not alter species richness and diversity. </LI> <LI> <I>Rhodobacter</I> and <I>Asticcacaulis</I> potentially degrading CPC were selectively enriched. </LI> <LI> The fate and effects of CPC in post-treatment processes of AS are recommended. </LI> </UL> </P>
Helix Nucleation via Hydrocarbon Cross-link Mimicking N-capping Box

The N-capping box is a well-known helix-stabilizing motif with a distinct reciprocal backbone–side chain hydrogen-bonding arrangement at the N-terminus of helices. This unique N-terminal flanking motif consists of a hydrogen-bonded cycle of four amino acid residues in which the backbone amide of the N3 residue forms a hydrogen bond with the side chain of the Ncap residue, and reciprocally, the side chain of the N3 accepts a hydrogen from the Ncap amide. In this study, as a new helix-stabilizing strategy, we examined a metathesis-based cross-linking system that mimics the hydrogen bond between the Ncap amide and the side chain of the N3 at the N-terminus. Using this new system, we prepared two alanine/lysine-based model peptides and analyzed its impact on helix stabilization. We found that a 16-membered macrocycle incorporated by ring-closing metathesis effectively induces and stabilizes helical conformations of the given model sequence.
