Studies have shown that smoking is a learnt behavior, often initiated during adolescence. This paper aims to describe tobacco-related knowledge, attitude and associations among school adolescents aged 13-15 with exposure to anti-smoking information. Using data from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Viet Nam, 2014, knowledge was measured through 4 questions about tobacco use, and attitude was assessed through 3 questions on personal, social and environmental aspects. Students giving most anti-tobacco responses to all questions were considered as having correct knowledge or appropriate attitude or both. Access to anti-smoking information was determined by exposure to any media messages on tobacco control during the past 30 days and teaching in school about the danger of tobacco use during the past 12 months. A substantial percentage of students thought that being near others who smoke might be harmful to them and smoking is harmful to health (89.4% and 89.6% respectively). However, only 46.4% reported that it is definitely difficult to quit smoking and 66.9% thought that smoking for only 1 or 2 years, once stopped, is harmful to health. Slightly more than half of the respondents reported appropriate attitude that young smokers have fewer friends than others and smoking makes them less attractive and less comfortable at social events. Noticing anti-smoking messages in the media together with having lessons in school about the dangers of tobacco substantially increased the likelihood of having correct knowledge, appropriate attitude and both. Despite relatively high awareness about smoking harms, effective educational communication is still highly needed to improve the level of comprehensive knowledge and an appropriate attitude regarding tobacco use.
Rule of Law, Economic Growth and Shadow Economy in Transition Countries
LUONG, Thi Thuy Huong,NGUYEN, Tho Minh,NGUYEN, Thi Anh Nhu Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.4
The paper aims to investigate the interactions between rule of law, economic growth and the shadow economy in 18 selected transition economies. This study uses annual data over the period 2002-2015 for 18 transition countries to estimate the effects of rule of law and other factors on the size of shadow economy. The transition country group is classified based on International Monetary Fund resources and is selected on the basis of the availability of data. The data examined in this research are derived from the World Bank, Worldwide Governance Indicators project and Working Paper from International Monetary Fund. This study employs GMM method. The results show that the economic growth indicators have negative and statistically significant impact on the shadow economy. Additionally, these results also reveal that in transition countries the size of shadow economy is negatively related to the quality of rule of law. However, the findings of this research also point out that there are positive relationships between inflation, public expenditure and the size of shadow economy. Hence the results from this study suggest that the size of shadow economy could be controlled by improving the effectiveness of rule of law and the growth of economy particularly in transition countries.
Helix Nucleation via Hydrocarbon Cross-link Mimicking N-capping Box
Luong Thuy Nguyen,Huy Xuan Luong,김영우 대한화학회 2016 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.37 No.4
The N-capping box is a well-known helix-stabilizing motif with a distinct reciprocal backbone–side chain hydrogen-bonding arrangement at the N-terminus of helices. This unique N-terminal flanking motif consists of a hydrogen-bonded cycle of four amino acid residues in which the backbone amide of the N3 residue forms a hydrogen bond with the side chain of the Ncap residue, and reciprocally, the side chain of the N3 accepts a hydrogen from the Ncap amide. In this study, as a new helix-stabilizing strategy, we examined a metathesis-based cross-linking system that mimics the hydrogen bond between the Ncap amide and the side chain of the N3 at the N-terminus. Using this new system, we prepared two alanine/lysine-based model peptides and analyzed its impact on helix stabilization. We found that a 16-membered macrocycle incorporated by ring-closing metathesis effectively induces and stabilizes helical conformations of the given model sequence.

The group of butyrate-producing bacteria within the human gut microbiome may be associated with positive effects on memory improvement, according to previous studies on dementia- associated diseases. Here, fecal samples of four elderly Japanese diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) were used to isolate butyrate-producing bacteria. 226 isolates were randomly picked, their 16S rRNA genes were sequenced, and assigned into sixty OTUs (operational taxonomic units) based on BLASTn results. Four isolates with less than 97% homology to known sequences were considered as unique OTUs of potentially butyrate-producing bacteria. In addition, 12 potential butyrate-producing isolates were selected from the remaining 56 OTUs based on scan-searching against the PubMed and the ScienceDirect databases. Those belonged to the phylum Bacteroidetes and to the clostridial clusters I, IV, XI, XV, XIVa within the phylum Firmicutes. 15 out of the 16 isolates were indeed able to produce butyrate in culture as determined by high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection. Furthermore, encoding genes for butyrate formation in these bacteria were identified by sequencing of degenerately primed PCR products and included the genes for butyrate kinase (buk), butyryl-CoA: acetate CoAtransferase (but), CoA-transferase-related, and propionate CoA-transferase. The results showed that eight isolates possessed buk, while five isolates possessed but. The CoA-transfer- related gene was identified as butyryl-CoA:4-hydroxybutyrate CoA transferase (4-hbt) in four strains. No strains contained the propionate CoA-transferase gene. The biochemical and butyrate-producing pathways analyses of butyrate producers presented in this study may help to characterize the butyrate-producing bacterial community in the gut of AD patients.

Acid leaching and a two-step solvent extraction procedure were developed to produce high purity mixture of La and Ce from iron-rich spent FCC catalyst discharged from Dzung Quat refinery (Vietnam). Acid leaching of the spent catalyst with 2M HNO3 and a solid-to-liquid ratio of 1/3 at 80 oC in 1 h dissolved almost 90% of La while 12% of Al and 25% of Fe were transferred to the leachate. The extraction of RE metals and main impurities such as Al and Fe by a mixture of di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) and tributyl phosphate (TBP) was investigated. Experiments showed that it was necessary to remove Fe before extracting RE and the optimum extraction conditions for a high recovery of RE while 0% of Al extraction were pH1, contact time=10min, and D2EHPA/TBP volume ratio= 4 : 1. At these conditions, the extraction yields of La(III) and Ce(III) were 72% and 89%, respectively. A two-step solvent extraction was developed to achieve a high purity of RE mixture, which included (1) the removal of impurity Fe by 25% (v/v) diisooctyl phosphinic acid (DiOPA) in n-octane for 140 min, (2) the extraction of rare earths by a mixture of di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) and tributyl phosphate (TBP) in n-octane for 10 min without the need for adjusting the pH of the leaching solution.

A Concurrent Triple-band RF Energy Harvesting Circuit for IoT Sensor Networks
Luong Duy Manh,Phan Thi Bich,Nguyen Thuy Linh,Nguyen Huy Hoang,Tran Xuan Nam,Koichiro Ishibashi 대한전자공학회 2021 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.10 No.2
In this paper, a concurrent triple-band RF energy harvesting circuit is proposed. The proposed circuit incorporates a triple-band microstrip antenna combining a low-loss diplexer and three compact RF rectifiers. The proposed circuit operates concurrently at three popular frequency bands: GSM-900, GSM-1800, and 2.45 GHz. To improve output voltage and efficiency, three rectifiers are connected in a stacked topology. The simulated and measured results demonstrate that the circuit operates well in concurrent bands. Moreover, the proposed circuit exhibits a low-complexity structure and compactness in size. These advantages make the circuit a strong potential candidate for running low-power devices in IoT sensor networks.

Second-hand tobacco smoke (SHS) exposure at home, especially among children, is a serious issue in Viet Nam. During the past decade, much effort has been taken for tobacco control in the country, including various prgorammes aiming to reduce SHS exposure among adults and children. This article analysed trends and factors associated with SHS exposure at home among school children aged 13-15 in Viet Nam, using the Global Youth Tobacco Surveys conducted in 2007 and 2014. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods with logistic regression were applied. Overall, there was a significant reduction in the level of exposure, from 58.5% (95%CI: 57.6-59.3) in 2007 to 47.1% (95%CI: 45.4-48.8) in 2014. Of the associated factors, having one or both parents smoking was significantly associated with the highest odds of SHS exposure at home (OR=5.0; 95%CI: 4.2-6.1). Conversely, having a mother with a college or higher education level was found to be a protective factor (OR=0.5; 95%CI: 0.3-0.8).

In this work, a model for the microstructure of Sr2-xLaxFeMoO6 nanoparticles samples (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.4) was established based on scanning electron microscopy and magnetic studies. The analysis reveals antiphase crystalline domains in the particles with the size distribution centered around mean values below ~12 nm for all the samples. Such small-size domains are responsible for the superparamagnetic properties observed for temperatures below room temperature, which are dependent on their dipole interactions. According to the fraction of Fe atoms at the antiphase boundaries calculated under the spherical domain assumption, these domains have lower degrees of atomic disorder than those estimated from the saturation magnetization values at 5 K, which are consistent with the high spin polarization values previously reported. The Curie temperature values, and the broadening of the magnetic phase transition can be satisfactorily explained based on the domain size distribution.
