        Controlled synthesis and luminescence properties of doped NaLa(WO4)2 microstructures

        In this work, well-defined NaLa(WO4)2microstructures were prepared by a facile hydrothermal processin the presence of oleylamine and oleic acid as a mixed surfactant. The phase, morphology, size andluminescence properties were well characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), photoluminescence (PL) spectra, and decaytime, respectively. The results reveal that the morphology and size of the as-synthesized samples can betuned by altering the reaction time and the amounts of oleic acid. A possible formation mechanism oftetragonal NaLa(WO4)2 is proposed on the basis of oleic acid amount-dependent experiments. Uponultraviolet (UV) excitation, NaLa(WO4)2:Eu3+ and NaLa(WO4)2:Tb3+ exhibit the characteristic downconversionemissions of Eu3+ and Tb3+. Yb3+/Er3+ and Yb3+/Tm3+ co-doped NaLa(WO4)2 samples showstrong green (Er3+, 4S3/2, 2H11/2!4I15/2) and blue (Tm3+, 1G4!3H6) up-conversion emission under980 nm laser diode excitation. Upconversion emission mechanisms of NaLa(WO4)2:Ln (Ln = Yb/Er, Yb/Tm) are also presented based on the emission spectra and the plot of luminescence intensity to pumppower. It should be noted that the intensity of the upconversion emissions can be dramatically enhancedcompared with sodium free tungstates, which can be attributed to the charge compensation and meansthe introduction of Na+ ions in WO42 causes less distortion in the crystal structure.

      • 대전지역 남·녀 대학생의 체구성성분과 식습관, 영양섭취량에 대한 비교 연구

        This study was an investigation of nutrient intake, food habit and body composition of college students in Daejeon. A 21 male students and 20 female students healthy college students living in Daejeon were selected for the study. Weight, height were measured of on all participants and Body composition were measured by bioirnpedence. The 24-hour recall test and food habits were examined throught questionnaires. The average height, weight and BMI were 175.80±4.29㎝, 71.59±16.22kg, 23.10±4.71kg/㎡ for the male, 161.20±5.51㎝, 56.25 ±7.61㎏, 21.62±2.22㎏/㎡ for the female. The everage body compositions were intracellular fluid(27.31±4.04), extracellular fluid(13.16±2.02), total body fat(13.26±8.69㎏), body fat ratio(17.23±7.00%) for the male and intracellular(18.53±2.15), extracellular fluid(8.81±1.01), total body fat(16.68±4.17㎏), body fat ratio(29.28±4.18%) for the female. Intracellular fluid(ICF) and extracellular fluid(ECF) of male students were significantly heigher than female. The mean score of food habits were 62.10±4.12 for the male, 64.30±7.46 for the female, and not significant difference between male and female(p<0.05). The everage intakes of energy, vit. B₁, B₂, niacine, folic acid, Ca and Zn were below the RDA in male and the everagy intake of energy, vitamin A, B_z, C, folic acid, Ca, Fe and Zn were below th RDA in female. Among energy, calrorie nutrients, food habits, BFR of correlation were significantly correlation energy(p<0.05) and carbohydrate(p<0.01), and significantly correlation between energy and nutrients(p<0.05).

      • A Multi-center Survey of HPV Knowledge and Attitudes Toward HPV Vaccination among Women, Government Officials, and Medical Personnel in China

        Objectives: To assess knowledge of HPV and attitudes towards HPV vaccination among the general female population, government officials, and healthcare providers in China to assist the development of an effective national HPV vaccination program. Methods: A cross-sectional epidemiologic survey was conducted across 21 urban and rural sites in China using a short questionnaire. 763 government officials, 760 healthcare providers, and 11,681 women aged 15-59 years were included in the final analysis. Data were analyzed using standard descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Results: Knowledge of HPV among the general female population was low; only 24% had heard of HPV. Less than 20% of healthcare providers recognized sexually na$\ddot{i}$ve women as the most appropriate population for HPV vaccination. There was high acceptance of the HPV vaccine for all categories of respondents. Only 6% of women were willing to pay more than US $300 for the vaccine. Conclusions: Aggressive education is necessary to increase knowledge of HPV and its vaccine. Further proof of vaccine safety and efficacy and government subsidies combined with increased awareness could facilitate development and implementation of HPV vaccination in China.

        Purification and Characterization of an Extracellular Protease from Bacillus pumilus CN8

        The protease produced by a Bacillus pumilus CN8 strain was purified by DEAE-Cellulose-52 ion exchange. It has a molecular weight of approximately 96,920 Dalton. In the present study, this protease showed strong activity over a broad range of pH (6.5-9.5) and temperature from 40℃ to 60℃, and the protease performed the maximal activity at pH 7.3 at 42℃. The effect of metal ions on protease activity showed that K+ could slightly increase the protease activity, and other ions such as Zn²+, Fe²+, Na+, Ca²+, Mg²+ had no significant activation or inhibition to the protease (P > 0.05), and the more important is that Cu²+, Mn²+, Sn²+, Cd²+ had a strong inhibitory effect on the protease activity.

        Sensitive Electrochemical Determination of Hyperin Based on Electrochemically Activated ZrO2 Nanoparticles-Modified Carbon Paste Electrode

        A novel electrochemically activated ZrO2 nanoparticles modified carbon paste electrode (CPE) (ZrO2-CPE(ox)) was prepared and applied for selective and sensitive determination of hyperin. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectra and electrochemical experiment were used to characterize the ZrO2 nanoparticles and investigate the electrochemical performance of the ZrO2-CPE(ox). Compared with bare CPE and electrochemically activated CPE (CPE(ox)), the ZrO2-CPE(ox) got more reactive sites by electrochemical treatment and exhibited larger effective surface area and more excellent electrochemical catalytic activity toward the redox of hyperin. Under the optimum conditions, the oxidation peak currents showed a linear relationship with the concentrations of hyperin in the range of 5.0 x 10 -9 – 2.0 x 10 -6 mol L -1 and 2.0 x 10 -6 – 1.2 x 10 -5 mol L -1, and a low detection limit of 1.0 x 10 -9 mol L -1 was achieved for hyperin. Moreover, the proposed method exhibited an excellent selectivity, stability, reproducibility and repeatability, which make it very suitable for a potential choice for determining the concentrations of hyperin in drug matrices.

      • Susceptibility Loci Associations with Prostate Cancer Risk in Northern Chinese Men

        Background: KLK3 gene products, like human prostate-specific antigen (PSA), are important biomarkers in the clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). G protein-coupled receptor RFX6, C2orf43 and FOXP4 signaling plays important roles in the development of PCa. However, associations of these genes with PCa in northern Chinese men remain to be detailed. This study aimed to investigate their impact on occurrence and level of malignancy. Methods: All subjects were from Beijing and Tianjin, including 266 cases with prostate cancer and 288 normal individuals as controls. We evaluated associations between clinical covariates (age at diagnosis, prostate specific antigen, Gleason score, tumor stage and aggressive) and 6 candidate PCa risk loci, genotyped by PCR- high resolution melting curve and sequencing methods. Results: Case-control analysis of allelic frequency of PCa associated with PCa showed that one of the 6 candidate risk loci, rs339331 in the RFX6 gene, was associated with reduced risk of prostate cancer (odds ratio (OR) = 0.73, 95% confidence interval (CI) =0.57-0.94, P = 0.013) in northern Chinese men. In addition, subjects with CX (CC+TC) genotypes had a decreased risk for prostrate cancer compared to those carrying the TT homozygote (OR =0.64, 95% CI = 0.45- 0.90, P = 0.008). The TT genotype of 13q22 (rs9600079, T) was associated with tumor stage (P=0.044, OR=2.34, 95% CI=0.94-5.87). Other SNPs were not significantly associated with clinical covariates in prostate cancer (P > 0.05). Conclusions. rs339331 in the RFX6 gene may be associated with prostate cancer as a susceptibility locus in northern Chinese men.

        Sialoglycoprotein from Gadous morhua eggs improve high bone turnover activity via down-regulating BMP-2/Smads and Wnt/b-catenin signal pathways

        The effect of sialoglycoprotein isolated from Gadous morhua eggs (Gm-SGP) on ovariectomized (OVX) induced osteoporosis, which is characterized by high bone turnover activity was investigated. Results revealed that Gm-SGP significantly increased bone mineral density, enhanced bone biomechanical properties and repaired the microstructure of the trabecular bone. Also, the treatment with Gm-SGP remarkably decreased biochemical marker contents or activities, such as serum BALP, PICP, BMP-2, TrACP, Cath-K, urine Ca and P, leading to the reduction in bone turnover. The elevation in the rate of bone formative process contributed in the increase of bone turnover. Both BMP-2/Smads and Wnt/b-catenin signaling pathways played an important role in osteogenesis. Gm-SGP suppressed the key factors expression in these two pathways such as BMP-2, Smad1, Smad4, Lrp-5b, Runx2, Osx, ALP, Col1, OCN and b-catenin. These findings might provide some theoretical basis for the application of Gm-SGP as a potential anti-osteoporotic drug or as functional food.

      • Prognostic Role of Hepatoma-derived Growth Factor in Solid Tumors of Eastern Asia: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

        Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) is a novel jack-of-all-trades in cancer. Here we quantify the prognostic impact of this biomarker and assess how consistent is its expression in solid tumors. A comprehensive search strategy was used to search relevant literature updated on October 3, 2014 in PubMed, EMBASE and WEB of Science. Correlations between HDGF expression and clinicopathological features or cancer prognosis was analyzed. All pooled HRs or ORs were derived from random-effects models. Twenty-six studies, primarily in Eastern Asia, covering 2,803 patients were included in the analysis, all of them published during the past decade. We found that HDGF overexpression was significantly associated with overall survival (OS) ($HR_{OS}=2.35$, 95%CI=2.04-2.71, p<0.001) and disease free survival (DFS) ($HR_{DFS}=2.25$, 95%CI =1.81-2.79, p<0.001) in solid tumors, especially in non-small cell lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Moreover, multivariate survival analysis showed that HDGF overexpression was an independent predictor of poor prognosis ($HR_{OS}=2.41$, 95%CI: 2.02-2.81, p<0.001; $HR_{DFS}=2.39$, 95%CI: 1.77-3.24, p<0.001). In addition, HDGF overexpression was significantly associated with tumor category (T3-4 versus T1-2, OR=2.12, 95%CI: 1.17-3.83, p=0.013) and lymph node status (N+ versus N-, OR=2.37, 95%CI: 1.31-4.29, p=0.03) in CCA. This study provides a comprehensive examination of the literature available on the association of HDGF overexpression with OS, DFS and some clinicopathological features in solid tumors. Meta-analysis results provide evidence that HDGF may be a new indicator of poor cancer prognosis. Considering the limitations of the eligible studies, other large-scale prospective trials must be conducted to clarify the prognostic value of HDGF in predicting cancer survival.

        Dynamic Compressive Behaviors of Multi Directional Woven Composite Laminates at Different Strain Rates

        This paper discusses the experimental study on the response of multi directional satin weave E-glass/epoxy composite laminates subjected to quasi-static and high strain rate compression loading along in-plane direction. Composite laminates were fabricated from satin weave glass fabric reinforced epoxy matrix pre-impregnated tapes which were manually laid up into laminates with stacking sequence of [451-45/0/90](13s). The low strain rate tests were conducted with an INSTRON (TM) testing machine, and the high strain rate tests done using a pulse shaper modified compression Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) apparatus. Compressive strength, modulus and strain at peak stress are evaluated experimentally at different strain rates. The results show that compressive strength, modulus and strain at peak stress are rate sensitive and enhanced at high strain rate compared with those at quasi-static loading. Under high strain rate loading, compressive strength and modulus increase as the strain rate increases. Optical and microscopic graphs on the specimens are carefully examined to determine operative failure modes. With the studied strain rate regimes, the failure modes are observed to change from splitting followed by fiber kink buckling to predominantly delamination and shear fracture as the strain rate increases from quasi-static to high strain rate.

        Reduction of Sodium Chloride Levels in Emulsified Lamb Sausages: The Effect of Lamb Plasma Protein on the Gel Properties, Sensory Characteristics, and Microstructure

        Reduced sodium emulsified lamb sausagesproduced using addition of lamb plasma protein wereevaluated for gel properties, sensory attributes, and microstructures. Hardness, cohesiveness, chewiness, redness,yellowness, juiciness, and overall acceptability values ofthe emulsified lamb sausages containing 1.5% sodiumchloride and more than 3% lamb plasma protein weresignificantly (p<0.05) higher than values for sausages with3.5% sodium chloride and no plasma protein. Sensoryattributes indicated that lamb sausages with addition of 4%plasma protein and 1.5% sodium chloride had the greatestoverall acceptability. Matrix morphological characteristicsof sausages were affected by addition of plasma proteinand sodium chloride. Lamb plasma protein enhanced thegel properties of emulsified lamb sausages and improvedthe sensory quality, providing a method to reduce thesodium chloride content of emulsified sausage.
