The purpose of this study is to develop phosphorus removal technology by crystallization on various materials for prevention eutrophication. This study was based on precipitation mechanism and was performed to see phosphorus removal efficiency of activated carbon, anthracite, aluminium and wasted concrete etc. The results obtained from this study are following ; The granular activated carbon coated with dissolved clamshell showed good removal efficiency, 82% of phosphorus. For anthracite after coating, 49% of phosphorus was removed. Other materials such as aluminium and wasted concrete could remove 40% and 48% of phosphorus, respectively. Judging from the results from this research, this technology can be applied for prevention of eutrophication and algal bloom in the lakes.

The amount of salt to make seed sorting solution of the specific gravity of 1.13 was reconsidered and determined as 3.8 kg salt in 18 L water, which is lower amount than currently used. Five rice cultivars were examined. Percent germination and seedling emergence were not similar. Seedling emergence rate of Japonica varieties, Nampyungbyeo and Daerypbyeo-1 were 87% and 95% under specific gravity of 1.13, respectively. Seedling emergence rate of Tongil type variety, Dasanbyeo was as high as 67% in specific gravity of 1.06. Seedling emergence rate of waxy rice, Hwasunchalbyeo and Aranghangchalbyeo were examined. Seedling emergence rate was 94% in both cultivars in specific gravity of 1.04. Seedling emergence rate was same in specific gravity of 1.08 which is generally used for selecting seed currently. Early growth (plant height, leaf number, and dry weight) were not significantly different by specific gravity within species. In all cultivars except waxy rice, highest seedling emergence rate was observed in specific gravity of 1.13 which is currently used for selection and decreased as specific gravity is lowed. However, considering total amount of seeds in each group of specific gravity, amount of seed in lower specific gravity group is relatively small and total seedling emergence rate within variety dose not show big difference. However, if seeds with low speicific gravity are produced due to the bad grain filling condition and consequently total seed content of low specific gravity increases, results will be differnt. Reduction in total growth and yield could occur. It will be important to comply with the seed sorting criterion of 1.13 for Japonica, 1.06 for Tongil, and 1.04 for waxy rice variety to ensure the maximum rice growth and yield.

Two tobacco cultivars (Nicotiana tabacum L.), Bel-B and Bel-W3, tolerant and sensitive to ozone, respectively, were grown in a greenhouse supplied with charcoal filtered air and exposed to 200 ppb ozone for 4 hr. Effects on chlorophyll fluorescence, net photosynthesis, and stomatal conductance are described. Quantum yield was calculated from chlorophyll fluorescence and the initial slope of the assimilation-light curve measured by the gas exchange method. Only the sensitive cultivar, Bel-W3, developed visual injury symptoms on up to 50% of the $5^{th}$ leaf. The maximum net photosynthetic rate of ozone-treated plants was reduced 40% compared to control plants immediately after ozone fumigation in the tolerant cultivar; however, photosynthesis recovered by 24 hr post fumigation and remained at the same level as control plants. On the other hand, ozone exposure reduced maximum net photosynthesis up to 50%, with no recovery, in the sensitive cultivar apparently causing permanent damage to the photosystem. Reductions in apparent quantum efficiency, calculated from the assimilation-light curve, differed between cultivars. Bel-B showed an immediate depression of 14% compared to controls, whereas, Bel-W3 showed a 27% decline. Electron transport rate (ETR), at saturating light intensity, decreased 58% and 80% immediately after ozone treatment in Bel-B and Bel-W3, respectively. Quantum yield decreased 28% and 36% in Bel-B and Bel-W3, respectively. It can be concluded that ozone caused a greater relative decrease in linear electron transport than maximum net photosynthesis, suggesting greater damage to PSII than the carbon reduction cycle.
Effects of Ozone on Crops and Protective Effects of Ethylenediurea as an Anti-Oxidant
Yun, Myoung-Hui,Lee, Woong-Sang The Ecological Society of Korea 1999 Journal of Ecology and Environment Vol.22 No.2
Phytotoxic effects of ozone and ethylenediurea (EDU) on soybean (Glycine max) and spinach (Spinacia oleracea) were observed by using open-top field chamber system (OTC). Gas exchange rates (photosynthesis. stomatal conductance and transpiration rates) of soybean plants were decreased by 20% to 30% by ambient ozone and resulted in 30% reduction of seed yields. In OTC. ambient ozone and 0.12 $\mu$l/l $O_3$ decreased gas exchange rates of spinach by 25% to 40% and by 50%. respectively. The protective effect of EDU against ozone induced injury was obtained at 100 mg/l on soybean. and at 250 mg/l on spinach, respectively. The excessive application of EDU. however. inhibited photosynthesis. transpiration. and stomatal conductance without any specific visible damage.

The amount of salt to make seed sorting solution for rice of the specific gravity of 1.13 was reconsidered and determined as 3.8 kg salt in 18L water, which is lower amount than currently used. Various rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars were used to examine seed specific gravity effect on germination, seedling emergence, and early growth. Percent germination and seedling emergence were not different. However, considering total amount of seeds in each group of specific gravity, amount of seed in lower specific gravity group is relatively small and total seedling emergence rate within variety dose not show big difference. As a result, it is considered that selecting seeds with water (larger than specific gravity of 1.00) instead of salt solution will not make large reduction in seedling emergence rate and have no effects in early growth.
