        Chain Branching Approach in Structure Modification of TRPV1 Receptor Antagonist MK056 and its Analogs

        A series of chain branched 1,3-dibenzylthiourea derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their antagonist activity against TRPV1. The synthesized chain branched 1,3-dibenzylthioureas 9a-g were tested for their antagonist activities against TRPV1 by 45Ca2+- influx assay using neonatal rat cultured spinal sensory neurons. Fluorinated ethyl-branched analog 9g showed the most potent antagonist activity with an IC50 value of 0.41 μM, but all of the chain branched analogs were less potent than the parent compounds MK-056 and SC-0030, indicating that chain branching on the benzylic position of B-ring is detrimental to potency. Optimized receptor binding seems to be interfered by chain branching, and resulted in decrease in potency.

        Health-Related Quality of Life of Post-Stroke Patients in a Public Hospital

        This study aimed to identif y the correlation between influencing factors of activities of daily living (ADLs), mental health, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among post-stroke patients who enrolled in a transitional care ser vice in a public hospital. This cross-sectional study involved 67 stroke patients who were enrolled in a transitional care ser vice and visited the outpatient clinic at a public hospital in Seoul between March and December 2022. Their general characteristics, ADLs, mental health, and HRQoL were assessed. The data were analyzed using independent samples t-tests, analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation analysis, and the influencing factors were analyzed using regression analysis. HRQoL showed a statistically significant difference between patients living in different types of arrangements (t = 2.50, p = 0.015), and patients scores on the modified Rankin Scale (t = 7.08, p < 0.001). HRQoL was also significantly correlated with ADLs and mental health in stroke patients (r = −0.59, p < 0.001; r = −0.41, p < 0.001, respectively). Meanwhile, stroke severity (β = −0.30, p = 0.002), living arrangements (β = −0.30, p = 0.009) and ADLs (β = −0.45, p < 0.001) were found to influence HRQoL (F = 6.87, p < 0.001, R2 = 0.47). Reduced dependence for ADLs, improvements in symptoms consequent to stroke, and support related to living arrangements contributed to improved HRQoL and inter ventions for post-stroke patients in the transitional care ser vice of a public hospital

        Reproducibility of Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Measurements in Malignant Breast Masses

        <P>This study aimed to evaluate the reproducibility of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements in malignant breast masses, and to determine the influence of mammographic parenchymal density on this reproducibility. Sixty-six patients with magnetic resonance findings of the mass were included. Two breast radiologists measured the ADC of the malignant breast mass and the same area on the contralateral normal breast in each patient twice. The effects of mammographic parenchymal density, histology, and lesion size on reproducibility were also assessed. There was no significant difference in the mean ADC between repeated measurements in malignant breast masses and normal breast tissue. The overall reproducibility of ADC measurements was good in both. The 95% limits of agreement for repeated ADCs were approximately 30.2%-33.4% of the mean. ADC measurements in malignant breast masses were highly reproducible irrespective of mass size, histologic subtype, or coexistence of microcalcifications; however, the measurements tended to be less reproducible in malignant breast masses with extremely dense parenchymal backgrounds. ADC measurements in malignant breast masses are highly reproducible; however, mammographic parenchymal density can potentially influence this reproducibility.</P>

      • Clinical significance of interval changes in breast lesions initially categorized as probably benign on breast ultrasound

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The aims of this study were to determine the malignancy rate of probably benign lesions that show an interval change on follow-up ultrasound and to evaluate the differences seen on imaging between benign and malignant lesions initially categorized as probably benign but with interval change on follow-up breast ultrasound.</P><P>We retrospectively reviewed 11,323 lesions from ultrasound-guided core-biopsies performed between June 2004 and December 2014 and identified 289 lesions (266 patients) with an interval change from probably benign (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System [BI-RADS] category 3) in the previous 2 years. Malignancy rates were compared according to the ultrasound findings and the characteristics of the interval changes, including changes in morphology and/or diameter.</P><P>The malignancy rate for probably benign lesions that showed an interval change on follow-up ultrasound was 6.9% (20/289). The malignancy rate was higher for clustered cysts (33.3%) and irregular or noncircumscribed masses (12.7%) than for circumscribed oval masses (5%) or complicated cysts (5%) seen on initial ultrasound (<I>P</I> = 0.043). Fifty-five percent of the malignancies were found to be ductal carcinoma in situ and there was 1 case of lymph node metastasis among the patients with invasive disease in whom biopsy was delayed by 6 to 15 months. The extent of invasiveness was greater in missed cases. There was a significant difference in the maximal diameter change between the 20 malignant lesions and the 269 benign lesions (4.0 mm vs 2.7 mm, <I>P</I> = 0.002). The cutoff value for maximal diameter change per initial diameter was 39.0% for predicting malignancy (sensitivity 95%, specificity 53.5%). The malignancy rate for morphologically changed lesions was significantly higher than for morphologically stable lesions (13.6% vs 4.9%; <I>P</I> = 0.024)</P><P>Our 6.9% of probably benign lesions that showed an interval change finally turned out to be malignancy was mostly DCIS. The sonographic features, interval changes in sonographic features, and lesion size might help in the recategorization of these lesions.</P>

        대학 생활 문화에 대한 외국인 학부생의 교육 요구도 분석 -저학년과 고학년의 비교를 중심으로-

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the educational needs of international college students according to their year in terms of college culture, including the academic system, university support centers and systems, and interpersonal relationships. The number of international college students attending Korean universities is increasing, but some fail to adjust to college life and complete their studies. To address this, universities provide educational programs at the curricular and extracurricular levels and administrative support to help foreign students adapt. This study, which focuses on educational support, surveys 152 international college students who took liberal arts courses opened at three universities regarding their educational needs and perceptions of college culture. The results show that these students would like to learn about college culture in their liberal arts classes. When college life is divided into six categories—the academic system; university support centers and systems; schoolwide or departmental activities and events; interpersonal relationships; career and employment; and housing and living expenses—lowerclassmen show higher needs within the academic system than in other categories. When comparing the educational priorities between the two groups, while the lowerclassmen have a higher need for education regarding the credit system, the major system, how to register for classes, the seniors express higher demand for education regarding employment regulations, Korean cultural experience activities, and school festivals. This study suggests that it may be best to vary the content of cultural education based on the learners’ academic year. 본 연구의 목적은 학사 체계, 학내 지원 기관, 대인 관계 등을 포함하는 대학 생활문화에 대해 외국인 학부생들이 학년 차에 따라 어떠한 교육 요구를 가지고 있는지 밝히는 데에 있다. 한국 대학에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생은 크게 증가했지만, 일부 유학생은 대학 생활에 적응을 하지 못하고 학업을 마치지 못하는 경우도 발생하고 있다. 따라서 대학에서는 외국인 유학생들의 대학 생활 적응을 돕기 위해 교과, 비교과, 행정 차원에서 지원을 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 외국인 유학생의 대학 생활 적 응을 돕기 위한 지원 가운데 하나인 교육적 측면에 중점을 두고, 국내 대학 3곳에 개설된 학업 한국어 등 교양 과목을 수강하는 외국인 학부생 152명을 대상으로 유학생들이 대학 생활 문화 항목에 대해 어떠한 교육 요구와 인식을 가지고 있는지를 조사하였다. 조사 결과, 외국인 학부생들은 대학 생활 문화 항목을 교양 수업 등의 교과차원에서 배우기를 요구하였다. 대학 생활 문화 범주를 ‘학사 체계 및 제도, 학내 지원 기관 및 제도, 학내/학과 활동 및 행사, 대인관계, 진로 및 취업, 주거 및 생활비’ 로 구분하였을 때, 다른 범주보다 학사 체계 및 제도에 대해서 저학년의 교육 요구가 높았다. 두 집단 간의 교육 요구 우선순위를 비교하였을 때, 저학년은 ‘학점 체계, 전공 체계, 수강 신청 방법’ 등에 대해 교육 요구가 높았고, 고학년은 ‘취업 규정, 한국 문화 체험 활동, 학교 축제’ 등에 대해 교육 요구가 높았다. 이를 통해 학습자 학년에 따라 대학 생활 문화 교육에 중점을 둘 수 있는 교육 내용이 달라질 수 있음을 제안하였다.

        외국인 학부생 대상 대학 생활 문화 교육을 위한 기초 연구

        The purpose of this study is to clarify the perception and educational needs of international college students regarding the culture of college life. A questionnaire was given to international college students who are studying at universities in Korea. The results showed that international college students need to study about the culture of college life and had a perception that it is desirable to learn this through general education classes or freshman subjects after entering university. Also, the culture of college life can be divided into nine categories: bachelor`s system; career and employment; university support centers and systems; interpersonal relations; departmental events; housing and living expenses; freshmen`s events; exchange activities and programs; and cultural experience activities. International college students showed higher learning needs in order of career and employment; cultural experience activity; and bachelor`s system. In addition, the characteristics of the learners showed different educational needs according to year of study and Korean language proficiency. The significance of this study is to specify the items of the culture of college life required for international college students, to measure the validity and reliability of these items, and to categorize the elements of the culture of college life.         쓰기 주제에 따른 언어 사용 양상 연구 –한국어 초급 학습자의 대학 글쓰기를 대상으로-

        외국인 학부생을 대상으로 개설된 대학 글쓰기 교과목의 목표는 한국어 의사소통 능력뿐 아니라 비판적 사고와 학문적 이해를 함양하는 데에 있다. 하지만 한국어 초급 수준의 학습자들은 한국어 능력의 제한으로 인해 개인적 주제를 중심으로 한국어 쓰기를 학습해 왔다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초급 수준의 외국인 학부생이 작성한 개인적 주제와 사회적 주제에 대한 쓰기의 언어 사용 양상을 복잡성과 정확성 측면에서 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 언어 사용의 복잡성 측면 중 문장 당 쓴 단어의 수, 대등절· 내포절의 수는 두 주제에 따라 차이가 없었다. 하지만 개인적 주제보다 사회적 주제 에서 사용된 절 당 단어 수와 관형절이 많았다. 반면 주제에 따른 언어 사용의 정확 성은 사회적 주제보다 개인적 주제에 대한 글을 쓸 때 높았다. 특히 주제에 따라 철자 오류에는 차이가 없었으나, 생산한 문법 오류나 어휘 오류에 차이가 있었다. 이를 통해 초급 수준의 학습자는 개인적 주제에 대한 글을 쓸 때는 더 정확하지만 덜 복잡한 표현이나 구조를 활용해 글을 쓰며, 사회적 주제에 대한 글을 쓸 때는 덜 정확 하지만 더 복잡한 표현이나 구조를 활용해 글을 씀을 확인할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 초급 수준의 학습자들이 사회적 주제에 대한 글을 쓰는 것이 복잡한 표현이나 구조를 사용하는 것을 시도하는 기회를 가지는 것이기에, 한국어 초급 수준의 대학 글쓰기 교과목에서 개인적 주제뿐 아니라 친숙한 사회적 주제 및 학술적 주제로 쓰기 주제를 확장할 필요가 있음을 제안하였다. The aim of a college Korean writing course for international students is to enhance their communication skills in Korean as well as their critical thinking and academic understanding. However, beginning level KAP learners have been studying Korean mainly through personal topics because of their limited Korean ability. This study analyzed the aspects of language usage in their writing about personal and social topics in terms of complexity and accuracy. The analysis shows that the numbers of words written per sentence, coordinate clauses and embedding clauses did not differ according to the type of topic. However, the numbers of words written per phrase and adnominal clauses were used more in writing about social topics than about personal topics. On the other hand, language use accuracy was higher when students wrote about personal rather than social topics. In particular, spelling errors did not differ by topic, but grammatical and lexical errors did. Learners wrote more accurately but used less complex expressions or structures when writing about personal topics and did the opposite when writing about social topics. Letting beginning level learners write about social topics will give them the opportunity to try out complex expressions or structures. Therefore, this study suggests that the writing topics assigned to beginning level college writers should be expanded to include not only personal but also familiar social and academic topics.

        외국인 유학생 대상 e-PBL 대학 글쓰기 수업 사례 연구

        The purpose of this study is to present examples of e-PBL application in liberal arts writing courses for foreign undergraduates. We presented how writing classes at universities applying e-PBL were conducted for foreign students attending K University. Based on the results of the learners calculated at each stage of e-PBL, it was revealed that e-PBL lessons were feasible for foreign students. Furthermore, we were able to derive their characteristics. According to a survey of students’ satisfaction, foreign students were satisfied with e-PBL. However, e-PBL confirmed that there are space-time constraints and that it is difficult to solve the problem of reducing the satisfaction of learners such as free riders. This paper presents the direction of the course that aim to solve these problems. (Korea University)

        외국인 학부생 대상 교양 한국어 교재에 나타난 문화 항목 분석 연구

        본 연구는 외국인 학부생들이 교양 한국어 교재 텍스트에서 어떠한 문화 항목을 접할 수 있는지를 살펴보고 이를 바탕으로 학문 목적 한국어 교재에 반영할 수 있는 문화 교육의 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 분석의 대상은 외국인 학부생들이 수강하는 교양 한국어 강의에서 사용되는 4종의 교재였다. 문화 항목 분석의 기준은 국제통용 한국어 교육 표준 모형 개발 2단계에서 제시된 한국어 교육 표준 모형의 문화 범주를 변형한 것이었다. 분석 결과 4종의 교양 한국어 교재에서는 한국 사회, 한국의 예술과 문학, 한국인의 생활, 한국인의 가치관, 한국의 문화유산, 한국의 역사, 외국인의 한국생활의 순으로 문화 항목이 비중을 두고 다루어지고 있었다. 교양 한국어 교재에 나타난 문화 항목 분석을 통해 본 연구에서는 학문 목적 한국어 교재에서 학교생활에 대한 문화 항목이 보다 중점을 두고 다루어질 필요가 있으며, 다양한 범주의 문화 내용이 다루어져야 함을 제안하였다. 또한 한국인의 입장에서 본 문화만이 아니라 외국인의 입장에서 본 문화 항목 또한 제시될 필요가 있으며, 전통 문화의 경우 학습자의 이해를 돕기 위한 비계 역시 제시되어야 함을 밝혔다. 아울러 교재에서는 문화 항목에 대한 정보뿐 아니라 문화를 향유함에 있어 비판적 사고를 키우며, 상호문화주의적 역량을 함양할 수 있는 활동이 제시되어야 함을 제안하였다. The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of cultural education for academic Korean learners through analyzing cultural items in the college Korean textbooks. And so this study tried to suggest the direction of cultural education for academic Korean textbooks. The objects of the analysis are four types of textbooks that are used by academic Korean learners in the College Korean courses after entering the university. The analysis was based on the modification of the cultural categories of the Korean language education standard model presented in the second stage of development of Korean language education standardized model for international availability. As a result of the analysis, cultural items in the textbooks were dealt with in the order of Korean society, Korean art and literature, Korean life, Korean values, Korean cultural heritage, Korean history and foreigner`s life in Korea. Through this analysis, this study suggested that cultural items about school life need to be treated more sufficiently in academic Korean textbooks and various categories of cultural contents should be addressed. In addition, it emphasized that cultural items should be presented not only from local people`s viewpoint but also from foreigners` viewpoint. And that it needs to include traditional cultural items along with the scaffolding to aid the learner`s understanding. It also suggested that the textbook should not only provide information on cultural items but also provide activities which can raise critical thinking in enjoyment of the culture and enhance intercultural competence.

      • Bloom의 신교육목표 분류 체계에 기초한 학문 목적 한국어 쓰기 교수-학습 활동 분석 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 학문 목적 한국어 쓰기 교육에서 제공되고 있는 교수 - 학습 활동을 분석하여 지식 차원과 인지과정 차원에서 어떠한 차원의 교수 - 학습 활동이 제공되고 있는지를 밝히는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 학문목적 한국어 쓰기 선행 연구 중 교수 - 학습의 결과가 유의미하다고 밝힌 연구 34개를 분석의 대상으로 선정하였다. 각 연구에서 교수 - 학습 활동을 추출하여 정리하였고, ‘Bloom의 신교육목표 분류 체계’에 맞추어 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 학문 목적 한국어 쓰기 교육에서 교수 - 학습 활동은 절차적 지식, 개념적 지식, 메타인지적 지식의 순으로 제공되었다. 각 지식을 인지과정 차원에서 분석하였을 때, 개념적 지식은 이해하기, 기억하기와 관련된 활동이 많이 제공되었다. 절차적 지식은 인지과정 차원에서 이해하기 활동의 비중이 가장 높았고, 적용하기, 분석하기, 평가하기, 창안하기와 관련된 활동은 고루 제공되었다. 또한 메타인지적 지식은 인지과정 차원에서 기억하기, 평가하기, 이해하기와 관련된 활동이 많이 제공되었다. 학문 목적 한국어 쓰기 교수 - 학습 활동을 분석을 통해 지식 차원에서는 자기주도적 교수 - 학습이 강조되고 있는 현실에서 메타인지적 지식차원의 교수 - 학습 활동을 보다 개발하고 제공하는 시도가 이루어져야 할 필요가 있음을 제안하였다. 또한 교육 현장에서 학습자의 변인이 다양함을 고려할 때, 특정 인지과정 차원에 집중된 교육이 아닌 다양한 인지과정 차원의 교수 - 학습 활동 개발이 이루어질 필요가 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the teaching-learning activities provided in Korean writing education for academic purposes and to reveal what dimension of teaching-learning activities is provided at the knowledge dimension and the cognitive process dimension. Thirty-four studies were selected for analysis, and they stated that the results of education were significant among the preceding studies on Korean writing for academic purposes. In each study, the teaching-learning activities were extracted, organized, and analyzed based on Bloom’s revised taxonomy of educational objectives. As a result of the analysis, the teaching-learning activities in Korean writing education were provided in the order of procedural knowledge, conceptual knowledge, and meta-cognitive knowledge. When each knowledge was analyzed at the cognitive process dimension, conceptual knowledge provided many activities related to understanding and remembering. Procedural knowledge was the most part of the understanding activity in the cognitive process, and the activities related to applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating were provided evenly. Meta-cognitive knowledge also provided many activities related to remembering, evaluating, and understanding in the cognitive process dimension. Through the analysis of the teaching-learning activities of Korean writing for academic purposes, it proposed that an attempt should be made to develop and provide more teaching-learning activities of meta-cognitive knowledge in a reality wherein self-directed learning is being emphasized. In addition, given the diversity of learners’ variations in the teaching field, it will be necessary to develop teachinglearning activities at various dimensions of the cognitive process rather than focusing on the specific cognitive process dimension.
