      • A nondestructive method for controlling wind loads and wind-induced responses of wooden pagoda

Yuhang LI,Yang Deng,Ai-Qun Li 한국풍공학회 2022 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.34 No.6

High-rise wooden pagodas generate large displacement responses under wind action. It is necessary and wise to reduce the wind loads and wind-induced responses on the architectural heritage using artificial plants, which do not damage ancient architecture and increase greenery. This study calculates and analyzes the wind loads and wind-induced responses on the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, in China, using artificial plants via the finite element analysis (FEA). A three-dimensional windloading field was simulated using a wind tunnel test. Wind loads and wind-induced responses, including the displacement and acceleration of the pagoda with and without artificial plants, were analyzed. In addition, three types of tree arrangements were discussed and analyzed using the score method. The results revealed that artificial plants can effectively control wind loads and wind-induced displacements, but the wind-induced accelerations are enlarged to some extent during the process. The height of the tree significantly affected the shelter effects of the structure. The distance of trees from the pagoda and arrangement width of the tree had less influence on shelter effects. This study extends the understanding of the nondestructive method based on artificial plants, for controlling the wind base loads and structural responses of wooden pagodas and preserving architectural heritage via FEA.

Transition metal modified manganese-based catalysts for soot oxidation promoted by noncompetitive adsorption of oxygen: Experiments and DFT calculations

        Congcong Li,Ruiqi Li,Yuhang Wang,Runhan Niu,Qilong Guo,Changsen Zhang 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.126 No.-

A series of manganese-based oxide catalysts were synthesized by the hydrothermal method. By adjustingthe doping amounts of W and Cu in the system to study the catalytic performance of transition metaldopedmanganese oxides on soot combustion. They were deeply studied through various characterizationsand theoretical calculations. The results show that Wand Cu doping modifications can significantlyimprove the activity of manganese-based oxides in soot oxidation. W-Cu0.1/MnOx prepared by comodificationofWand Cu at 395 C can convert 90% of soot into CO2. The multiple characterization resultsshow that by adjusting the doping amount of copper and tungsten, the nano-flower-like morphology canbe obtained and the crystal plane can be reconstructed, which is helpful to increase the specific surfacearea, Mn3+ content, and oxygen vacancy content. The theoretical calculation results show that the oxygenvacancy on the surface of the catalyst shows the ability to activate O2 and H2O, and they show noncompetitiveadsorption. In addition, W-Cu0.1/MnOx has a good application prospect in the catalytic oxidationof soot because of its excellent catalytic stability. This work provides a reference for the designand preparation of non-noble metal-based catalysts for the elimination of soot particles from dieselengine exhaust.

Exogenous Glycinebetaine Application Contributes to Abiotic Stress Tolerance in Maize

        Pei Laming,Li Hongmei,Zhou Yuanyuan,Li Weijun,Jiang Yuhang,Li Hui 한국식물학회 2022 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.65 No.6

Plant growth and development are adversely affected by various environmental stresses. In this study, we investigated the possible function of glycinebetaine (GB) in improving abiotic stress tolerance in maize plants by exogenous application. Results indicated that GB application could effectively improve maize germination percentages, biomass weights and grain yield per plant under abiotic stresses. Moreover, GB-treated plants showed higher reactive oxygen species (ROS)-scavenging capacities, therefore less oxidative destruction than control plants under stresses. In addition, abscisic acid (ABA) levels were increased in GB-treated plants compared to control plants. The comparison of transcriptome profile was performed to analyze the possible mechanism underlying the enhanced tolerance mediated by GB. Many differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between GB-treated and control plants were found to be involved in responses to oxidative stress, abiotic stress and ABA. Taken together, these results indicated that GB might enhance abiotic stress tolerance in maize by regulating ROS-scavenging capacities and ABA-mediated stress-responsive pathways.

Astragalus Polysaccharides Attenuate Ovalbumin-Induced Allergic Rhinitis in Rats by Inhibiting NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation and NOD2-Mediated NF-κB Activation

        Jiangtao Xu,Qiong Zhang,Zhaoxin Li,Yuhang Gao,Zhiyu Pang,Yina Wu,Geng Li,Dongyong Lu,Lijuan Zhang,Detang Li 한국식품영양과학회 2021 Journal of medicinal food Vol.24 No.1

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an IgE-mediated chronic inflammatory disease of the allergic nasal mucosa. It has a significant effect on quality life; most patients with AR also suffer from sleep disorders, mood disorders, and deterioration in social relationships. As increasing numbers of medicinal plants show productive anti-inflammatory activity against inflammatory diseases, there is growing interest in natural medicinal plant ingredients. To this end, we selected Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) to evaluate its anti-inflammatory effect on ovalbumin-induced AR rats, and we further explored its impact on NLRP3 inflammasome activation and NOD2-mediated NF-κB activation. We found that APS can alleviate the nasal symptom of AR rats and attenuate pathological alterations. APS also reduced the inflammatory cytokine levels. APS not only inhibited the NLRP3 inflammasome activation but also inhibited NF-κB activation by decreasing NOD2 expression and blocking the phosphorylation of NF-κB (p65). In conclusion, APS can effectively improve the inflammatory symptoms of nasal mucosa in AR rats, which may be mediated by the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activation and NOD2-mediated NF-κB activation. These findings indicate that APS has the potential to be used as a therapeutic agent for AR.

Preparation of high surface area carborundum-supported cobalt catalysts for hydrogen production by ammonia decomposition

        Li Guoru,Tan Yuhang,Lei Zhiping,Yin Fengxiang,He Xiaobo 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.3

Ammonia is a potential fuel for producing and storing hydrogen, but its usage is constrained by the high cost of the noble metal catalysts to decompose NH3. Utilizing non-precious catalysts to decompose ammonia increases its potential for hydrogen production. In this study, carborundum (SiC)-supported cobalt catalysts were prepared by impregnating Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) on SiC support. The catalysts were characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, temperature programmed reduction, etc. The results show that the large specific surface area of SiC can introduce highly distributed Co3O4 NPs onto the surface. The amount of Co in the catalysts has a significant effect on the catalyst structure, particle size and catalytic performances. Due to the interaction of cobalt species with SiC, the 25Co/SiC catalyst provided the optimal ammonia conversion of 73.2% with a space velocity of 30,000 mL gcat−1 h−1 at 550 °C, corresponding to the hydrogen production rate of 24.6 mmol H2 gcat−1 min−1. This research presents an opportunity to develop highly active and cost-effective catalysts for hydrogen production via NH3 decomposition.

Study of Bidirectional DC-DC Converter Interfacing Energy Storage for Vehicle Power Management Using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS)

        Yuhang Deng,Simon Y. Foo,Hui Li 전력전자학회 2011 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.11 No.4

The bidirectional dc-dc converter, being the interface between Energy Storage Element (ESE) and DC bus, is an essential component of the power management system for vehicle applications including electric vehicle (EV), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), and fuel cell vehicle (FCV). In this paper, a novel multiphase bidirectional dc-dc converter interfacing with battery to supply and absorb the electric energy in the FCV system was studied with the help of real time digital simulator (RTDS). The mathematical models of fuel cell, battery and dc-dc converter were derived. A power management strategy was developed and first simulated in RTDS. A Power Hardware-In-the-Loop (PHIL) simulation using RTDS is then presented. The main challenge of this PHIL is the requirement for a highly dynamic bidirectional Simulation-Stimulation (Sim-Stim) interface. This paper describes three different interface algorithms. The closed-loop stability of the resulting PHIL system is analyzed in terms of time delay and sampling rate. A prototype bidirectional Sim-Stim interface is designed to implement the PHIL simulation.

Direct observation of the hysteretic Fermi level modulation in monolayer MoS2 field effect transistors

        Yuhang Wang,Dongyong Li,Xubo Lai,Boyang Liu,Yibao Chen,Fengping Wang,Rongming Wang,Liuwan Zhang 한국물리학회 2020 Current Applied Physics Vol.20 No.2

The hysteresis in the transfer curve of MoS2 has significant impact on the device performance. However, the hysteresis mechanism is still not clear. Here, we investigate the hysteresis of the monolayer MoS2 by probing the local Fermi level variations as a function of the back gate voltage in different atmosphere using the Kelvin probe microscopy. While the Fermi level of the MoS2 in air is much lower than that in vacuum, both the MoS2 devices in vacuum and air show large Fermi level hysteresis. The Fermi level hysteresis direction is clock-wise, identical to that observed in the transfer curves. Both the hysteresis in Fermi level and transfer curve can be explained consistently by taking into account the charge trapping. Our findings confirm that carrier density modulation in MoS2 plays a vital role in the hysteresis, and provide insight into the hysteresis mechanism for the optimization of the device performance.
