This paper describes the design results, loss analysis, and experiment testing of the real manufactured toroid-type superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES). We analysed heat load through the conduction and radiation of the cryostat and magnetization loss caused by the charging and discharging of the toroid-type SMES system. We also measured the characteristics of toroid-type SMES under three different types of operating conditions (steady state, one-cycle charging and discharging, series charging and discharging). The fundamental design specifications and the data obtained from the experiment will be applied to a large-scale toroid-type SMES system design.

Kwangmin Kim,Jin-Geun Kim,Hwanjun Jung,Seokho Kim,Sangjin Lee,Minwon Park,In-Keun Yu IEEE 2013 IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity Vol.23 No.3

Large electric power systems, such as high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems, need dc reactors with large inductance and high transport current. Such systems experience a lot of electrical loss due to the resistance of their copper winding. Employing superconducting magnets for the reactors provides some advantages such as high current density, low electrical loss, and so on. This paper describes the design of a toroid-type high temperature superconductor (HTS) dc reactor magnet. The target inductance and the current level of the HTS dc reactor were 400 mH and 400 A, respectively. The toroid-type HTS magnet reduced leakage flux and increased the critical current of the reactors. The HTS dc reactors were designed using 2G HTS wires. The Finite Element Method was used for the design and analysis of the toroid-type HTS dc reactors.

Operating Characteristics of an Insulationless HTS Magnet Under the Conduction Cooling Condition
Kwangmin Kim,Sung-Jun Jung,Hae-Jin Sung,Gyeong-Hun Kim,Seokho Kim,Sangjin Lee,A-Rong Kim,Minwon Park,In-Keun Yu IEEE 2013 IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity Vol.23 No.3

This paper considers the insulationless high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet as a new and innovative concept for dc applications due to its benefits as compared to conventional HTS magnets with insulation layers between HTS conductors. The purpose of this paper is to study the operating characteristics of an insulationless HTS magnet. The normal operating characteristics of the insulationless HTS magnet were investigated according to the various current levels. Thermal stability of the insulationless HTS magnet was also analyzed. The critical current of the insulationless HTS magnet was measured at 40 K. The temperature distribution of the insulationless HTS magnet was measured using thermocouples. The experiment results demonstrate superior thermal stability characteristics in the insulationless HTS magnet. Thus, it is confirmed that the thermal performance of large-scale HTS magnets can be enhanced by applying insulationless magnets instead of general insulated HTS magnets.

In this paper, a hybrid complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) inverter composed of p-type lowtemperature poly-crystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) using excimer laser annealing(ELA) of amorphous Si and n-type amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide (a-IGZO) TFT is reported. The inverter exhibits a full swing output and a large noise margin. With these hybrid TFT circuit components, more power-efficient CMOS digital circuits for active-matrix organic light emitting diode display can be implemented.

Stroke causes systemic immunosuppression. T lymphocytes are involved in infarct size in the early stages of stroke. However, the phenotypes of T lymphocytes and their functions in peripheral immune organs and the brain have not been well analyzed in the acute and chronic phases of stroke. Here, we investigated pathological phenotypic alterations in the systemic immune response, especially changes in T lymphocytes, from one day to six months after ischemic stroke in mice. Impairment in thymocyte numbers, development, proliferation, and apoptosis were observed for up to two weeks. The number of mature T cells in the spleen and blood decreased and showed reduced interferon-γ production. Increased numbers of CD4- CD8- CD3+ double-negative T cells were observed in the mouse brain during the early stages of stroke, whereas interleukin (IL)-10+ Foxp3+ regulatory T lymphocytes increased from two weeks during the chronic phase. These phenotypes correlated with body weight and neurological severity scores. The recovery of T lymphocyte numbers and increases in IL-10+ Foxp3+ regulatory T lymphocytes may be important for long-term neurological outcomes. Dynamic changes in T lymphocytes between the acute and chronic phases may play different roles in pathogenesis and recovery. This study provides fundamental information regarding the T lymphocyte alterations from the brain to the peripheral immune organs following stroke.
Diagnostic Availability of Estrogen Receptor Alpha mRNA on Cervical Cancer Tissue
Geehyuk Kim,Kwangmin Yu,Jungho Kim,Seoyong Kim,Sunyoung Park,Sungwoo Ahn,이지영,Sunghyun Kim,박호현,이동섭 대한임상검사과학회 2018 대한임상검사과학회지(KJCLS) Vol.50 No.4
Cervical cancer is the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. In lower Human Development Index countries, it has the second highest incidence and mortality among cancer in women. Therefore, better diagnosis and treatment systems are needed. Among them, estrogen receptor alpha (ER-α) mRNA expression has been analyzed with RT-qPCR since several studies reported that ER-α is necessary in the maturation of the uterus and is related to cervical cancer. In this study, ER-α quantitative analysis was performed on various lesions and normal tissue samples. Based on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, its sensitivity and specificity were 85% and 75%, respectively, showing higher or similar results to those of conventional HPV tests. In addition, its expression level was analyzed with clinical information. With regression analysis, the R square value between the ER-α mRNA expression level and menopause status was 0.5041, indicating a strong correlation. This study was performed as part of a pilot study and suggests that ER-α is related to carcinogenesis. Future studies will examine other hormones and menopausal factors with a larger sample size.
