'Digital' Nature of 'Primitive' Animation : From Kino-Eye to Kino-Body

Vol.0 No.7

Regarding the nature of digital representation, this paper aims to understand how digital technologies redefine the very identity of animation within the history of moving images: Digital technology has reinvented inherent attributes of animation rather than act to assist in its evolution toward the totality of cinematic realism. The paper examines the 'digital' nature of animation with regard to frames, metamorphosis, and hybridity. Consequently, this paper will reveal the possible convergence of a kino-eye of camera and a kino-body of computer in digital animation.

Thinking about Animation : Animism and Ani-body

Vol.0 No.6

Based on the idea that animation art materializes the world of animism, which is the epistemological approach of identifying the presence of spirits and the action of life within all things, it is essential to comprehend how the body, as a place where life manifests itself so that the 'plausible impossible' imagery of life continues, follows its own physics in animation, which has been refined through animation history. This paper tries to explain how the animated body is first formed, and then acts out, by analyzing the specific example of ani-body of Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie (1928) by Disney.

Vol.40 No.3

COSMOS, a real-time signal control system developed in the 1990s, is an active way to resolve traffic congestion and supports easing intersection communication in response to real-time traffic demand. However, due to safety and efficiency problems, most signalized intersections in Korea operate as pattern-based fixed signal control based on TOD. In a situation where various traffic pattern changes are occurring in real-time, the need for designing real-time signal control strategies applicable to domestic infrastructure is increasing. Accordingly, in the research project on the development of a smart signal operation system, a real-time signal control CAERUS that supports the degree of saturation equalization of each vehicle movement using travel time history data developed. CAERUS supports cycle length increase, decrease and green time adjustment based on the predicted demand volume. Recently, with the development of high-quality image detection technology, calculating the degree of saturation of each vehicle movement in real time without separate historical data. Therefore, this study advanced CAERUS based on the traffic demand collected using the latest image detection technology. To evaluate the efficiency of advanced CAERUS, a simulation environment was established for the Dogok-Daechi section of Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where an image detector was installed. As a result of the analysis, CAERUS effectively improved the intersection communication situation while supporting the equalization of delays in each vehicle movement according to the changing demand volume compared to TOD. CAERUS designed in this study is expected to have a greater delay improvement effect when operating at intersections with a large degree of saturation differences for each vehicle movement. In addition, it is expected that more flexible signal control will be possible when expanding strategies considering right-turn movement in the future.

Vol.0 No.41

In order to revisit the significance of the humanities in the digital age, this study first aims to examine both its global and local context, which includes not only the impact of Digital Turn and the prosperity of Digital Humanities but also the success of Korean Wave and recent transformations of the Korean humanistic academia. Then this study explores the emergence and development of ‘contents,’ which is regarded as one of the most remarkable results from various interaction between those two different contexts, so that we demonstrate the conceptual validity of contents in terms of three aspects including its timeliness, exemplarity, and proximity. In particular, this study attempts to establish the ‘Contents Studies’ as an umbrella term, and then discusses its main domains, such as Humanities Contents and Culture Contents, both of which have achieved an outstanding growth for the last decade in the Korean academic world. This study also aims to comprehend the subject and vision of Knowledge Contents, which has recently emerged as a new domain of Contents Studies, and ultimately pursues not only a knowledge innovation but also a social innovation, based on the fundamental reconsideration of the nature of knowledge. This study lastly introduces one case study of knowledge contents, which is a research project to construct a knowledge map of the Korean-Chinese ethnic town located in the southwest side of the city of Seoul.

The digital ceramic printing technology uses ceramic materials tprint out the digital image and requires establishing the program for color management through the effective operation of the digital equipment, optimal ink property and interchangeability among materials. This study eliminates the ZnO or the case of reaction between the ink and glaze found in the previous study and replaces it with CaO-based frit to complement the problem. The color management of the digital ceramic printing consists of 4-channel inks including the blue, hot-pink, yellow and black for the ceramic process in the Create a New Mode phase. The output density in a single channel is optimized by the ink restriction, linearization and ink limit to confirm the excellent color phase and the stable color mix is reproduced under 200% of the ink output density. Besides, in this study, the ink volume of the hot-pink and yellow inks was increased to 100% with the color loss and weak color force under the low output density to confirm the output density of the ink mix and the profile of 2 conditions was established. The output image with the application of 2 profiles shows stable reproduction under the optimal output density and the color gamut expansion. The image with the maximum volume of the hot-pink and yellow shows difficulty in identifying fine tone change due to the strong contrast. Therefore, it is thought that the profile considering the color and tone of the output image should be applied to reduce the color losses. Therefore, the color control through the 4-channel (blue, hot-pink, yellow, black) inks shall expand the color gamut by setting up various profiles depending on the color and tone and applying the standard spot color like green, red, purple and orange.

The Effect of Vanishing Twin on First- and Second-Trimester Maternal Serum Markers and Nuchal Translucency: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study

        Lee Se Jin,Han You Jung,Kim Minhyoung,Shim Jae-Yoon,Lee Mi-Young,Oh Soo-young,Lee JoonHo,Kim Soo Hyun,Cha Dong Hyun,Cho Geum Joon,Kwon Han-Sung,Kim Byoung Jae,Park Mi Hye,Cho Hee Young,Ko Hyun Sun,Bae 대한의학회 2023 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.38 No.38

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of vanishing twin (VT) on maternal serum marker concentrations and nuchal translucency (NT). Methods: This is a secondary analysis of a multicenter prospective cohort study in 12 institutions. Serum concentrations of pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A in the first trimester and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), total human chorionic gonadotrophin, unconjugated estriol, and inhibin A in the second trimester were measured, and NT was measured between 10 and 14 weeks of gestation. Results: Among 6,793 pregnant women, 5,381 women were measured for serum markers in the first or second trimester, including 65 cases in the VT group and 5,316 cases in the normal singleton group. The cases in the VT group had a higher median multiple of the median value of AFP and inhibin A than the normal singleton group. The values of other serum markers and NT were not different between the two groups. After the permutation test with adjustment, AFP and inhibin A remained significant differences. The frequency of abnormally increased AFP was also higher in the VT group than in the normal singleton group. Conclusion: VT can be considered as an adjustment factor for risk assessment in the secondtrimester serum screening test.

Clinical Practice Guidelines for Prenatal Aneuploidy Screening and Diagnostic Testing from Korean Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine: (1) Prenatal Aneuploidy Screening

        Choe Seung-Ah,Seol Hyun-Joo,Kwon Ji Young,Park Chan-Wook,Kim Minhyoung,이지연,Kim Min-A,Hwang Han-Sung,Na Sunghun,Shim Jae-Yoon,Kim Kunwoo,Ryu Hyun Mee 대한의학회 2021 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.36 No.4

In 2019, the Korean Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine developed the first Korean clinical practice guidelines for prenatal aneuploidy screening and diagnostic testing. These guidelines were developed by adapting established clinical practice guidelines in other countries that were searched systematically, and the guidelines aim to assist in decision making of healthcare providers providing prenatal care and to be used as a source for education and communication with pregnant women in Korea. This article delineates clinical practice guidelines specifically for maternal serum screening for fetal aneuploidy and cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening. A total of 19 key questions (12 for maternal serum and 7 for cfDNA screening) were defined. The main recommendations are: 1) Pregnant women should be informed of common fetal aneuploidy that can be detected, risks for chromosomal abnormality according to the maternal age, detection rate and false positive rate for common fetal aneuploidy with each screening test, limitations, as well as the benefits and risks of invasive diagnostic testing, 2) It is ideal to give counseling about prenatal aneuploidy screening and diagnostic testing at the first prenatal visit, and counseling is recommended to be given early in pregnancy, 3) All pregnant women should be informed about maternal serum screening regardless of their age, 4) cfDNA screening can be used for the screening of trisomy 21, 18, 13 and sex-chromosome aneuploidy. It is not recommended for the screening of microdeletion, 5) The optimal timing of cfDNA screening is 10 weeks of gestation and beyond, and 6) cfDNA screening is not recommended for women with multiple gestations. The guideline was reviewed and approved by the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.

Treatment of gestational diabetes diagnosed by the IADPSG criteria decreases excessive fetal growth

        ( Kyoung-hee Lee ),( You-jung Han ),( Jin-hoon Chung ),( Moon-young Kim ),( Hyun-mee Ryu ),( Jin-ha Kim ),( Dong-wook Kwak ),( Sung-hoon Kim ),( Seongwoo Yang ),( Minhyoung Kim ) 대한산부인과학회 2020 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.63 No.1

Objective We evaluated the effect on treatment using the new International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group (IADPSG) criteria for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) diagnosis. Methods Singleton pregnant women whose plasma glucose levels were ≥140 mg/dL on the 50 g glucose challenge test (GCT) underwent 75 g oral glucose tolerance for GDM diagnosis. During the first half of the study period, GDM was diagnosed using 2 abnormal values by Carpenter-Coustan (C-C) criteria. In the second half of the study period, 1 or more abnormal values by IADPSG criteria were used for GDM diagnosis. Pregnant women were classified into 5 groups: normal 50 g GCT, positive 50 g GCT but non-GDM, GDM by IADPSG criteria and non-treated, GDM by IADPSG criteria and treated, GDM by C-C criteria and treated. The odds ratios (ORs) for large for gestational age (LGA) and macrosomia were analyzed. Results Of the 2,678 patients, the frequency of GDM diagnosed by C-C and IADPSG criteria was 2.6% and 7.5%. ORs (95% confidence intervals [CIs]) for LGA and macrosomia in the group with GDM by IADPSG criteria and non-treated were 2.81 (95% CI, 1.47-5.38) and 2.84 (95% CI, 1.08-7.47). The risk of LGA and macrosomia did not increase in the group with GDM by IADPSG criteria and treated. Conclusion The risk of LGA and macrosomia for mild GDM diagnosed solely by IADPSG criteria depends on whether they are treated or not. Treatment of GDM based on IADPSG criteria reduces the risk of excessive fetal growth.
