        Digital subtraction angiography vs. real-time fluoroscopy for detection of intravascular injection during transforaminal epidural block

        Background: Transforaminal epidural block (TFEB) is an effective treatment option for radicular pain. To reduce complications from intravascular injection during TFEB, use of imaging modalities such as real-time fluoroscopy (RTF) or digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been recommended. In this study, we investigated whether DSA improved the detection of intravascular injection during TFEB at the whole spine level compared to RTF. Methods: We prospectively examined 316 patients who underwent TFEB. After confirmation of final needle position using biplanar fluoroscopy, 2 mL of nonionic contrast medium was injected at a rate of 0.5 mL/s under RTF; 30 s later, 2 mL of nonionic contrast medium was injected at a rate of 0.5 mL/s under DSA. Results: Thirty-six intravascular injections were detected for an overall rate of 11.4% using RTF, with 45 detected for a rate of 14.2% using DSA. The detection rate using DSA was statistically different from that using RTF (p=0.004). DSA detected a significantly higher proportion of intravascular injections at the cervical level than at the thoracic (p=0.009) and lumbar (p=0.011) levels. Conclusion: During TFEB at the whole spine level, DSA was better than RTF for the detection of intravascular injection. Special attention is advised for cervical TFEB, because of a significantly higher intravascular injection rate at this level than at other levels.

        In vivo 3D imaging of the human tympanic membrane using a wide-field diagonal-scanning optical coherence tomography probe

        <P>A wide-field optical coherence tomography (OCT) probe was developed that adapts a diagonal-scanning scheme for three-dimensional (3D) in vivo imaging of the human tympanic membrane. The probe consists of a relay lens to enhance the lateral scanning range up to 7 mm. Motion artifacts that occur with the use of handheld probes were found to be decreased owing to the diagonal-scanning pattern, which crosses the center of the sample to facilitate entire 3D scans. 3D images could be constructed from a small number of two-dimensional OCT images acquired using the diagonal-scanning technique. To demonstrate the usefulness and performance of the developed system with the handheld probe, in vivo tympanic membranes of humans and animals were imaged in real time.         The importance of the role of post-doctoral researchers and the impact this period has on the overall researcher career cannot be overemphasized. Since the 2000s, the career path model has changed and the instability of the labor market has increased due to the increase in the number of PhDs worldwide. In many countries, slow job growth compared to the increase in post-doctoral researchers, prolonged period, unstable employment and uncertain future career problems are becoming increasingly serious. In this study, the size of post-doctoral researchers less than three years after obtaining a degree was estimated by in-depth analysis of the results of follow-up surveys for new doctors conducted in 2019 and 2020. The current status of domestic post-doctoral researchers such as, university type and individual characteristics were reviewed. Based on the results, we have proposed 4 policy directions; improvement of working conditions, broad career development, improvement of management system, and support for intersectoral and international movement.

        고급중학교 『국어문학』교과서에 나타난 북한 문학교육의 특성 - 현대소설/영화 단원을 중심으로 -

        이 글은 북한의 현행 2013 개정 교육과정에 따른 고급중학교 〈국어문학〉 과목의 교과서와 교수참고서를 대상으로 북한에서 이뤄지고 있는 현대소설/영화 교육의 특성을 살펴본 것이다. 이를 통해 알 수 있었던 북한의 문학교육과 현대소설/영화 교육의 특성은 다음과 같다. 북한은 〈국어문학〉 과목을 통해 국가에 이바지하는 충성된 인재를 양성하기 위해 문학작품을 중심으로 정치사상 교양과 혁명적 정서를 키워주는 동시에 사회생활에 필요한 말과 글, 문학에 대한 지식과 기능을 충분히 체득시키는 것을 교육목적으로 삼고 있다. 북한의 『국어문학』 교과서는 주제 중심으로 편성되었고, 이전 교육과정기의 교과서에 비해 더욱 실질적이며 체계적인 단원 구성을 취하고 있다. 북한은 학년이 올라갈수록 소설의 비중이 더 커지며 수록 분량도 많아진다. 또한 해방 이전의 작품보다 해방 이후의 작품이 많으며 세계 명작도 초기자본주의 시대를 배경으로 한 작품을 활용하였다. 작품의 주제는 대부분의 작품이 김일성 일가와 조국에 대한 충성으로 수렴될 수 있으며, 토지개혁, 조국해방전쟁, 천리마작업반운동, 농촌경제의 개조, 철도건설, 광산개발 등의 시대적 사건들을 배경으로 하여 평범한 인물이 사회주의적 영웅으로 성장해 가는 모습과 그 활약상을 그린 작품, 과학기술이나 근면한 생활태도를 중시하는 작품들이 실렸다. 이러한 작품 선정은 북한의 역사관과 문학사에 근거한 것이다. 북한은 작품의 갈래에 관한 지식이나 작가의 문학적 업적에 관한 내용도 비중 있게 다루고 있다. 또 북한에서는 영화를 교육 제재로 상정하여 영화에 관한 다양한 학습활동을 도모하고 있다. 『국어문학』 교과서에서는 ‘지식 습득→문학작품을 매개로 한 다양한 언어 사용 활동→태도 형성’으로 학습활동이 전개되도록 하여 초등교육부터 중등교육까지 높은 학년으로 갈수록 문학을 중심으로 좀 더 심화 발전된 언어활동을 통해 통합적인 언어 사용 능력 배양하도록 하고 있다. 이와 같은 교재 차원의 탐구가 향후 남북한 통일 이후의 문학교육의 방안을 설계하는 데 유용한 참고가 될 수 있기를 기대한다. This article examines the characteristics of modern novels/film education in North Korea, targeting textbooks and guidebooks for high school 〈Korean Language and Literature〉 according to the current 2013 revised curriculum of North Korea. The characteristics of North Korea"s literary education and modern novel/film education are as follows. In order to cultivate loyal talents who contribute to the country through the 〈Korean Language and Literature〉 course, North Korea fosters ideological education and revolutionary sentiment, focusing on literary works. It is for educational purposes to get enough mastery. North Korea"s 『Korean Language and Literature』textbooks are organized around themes and have a more substantial and systematic unit structure than before. The higher the grade, the bigger the proportion of novels, and the bigger the volume. Also, there were more works after the liberation than those before the liberation, and the world masterpieces also used works based on the early capitalist era. Almost all of the subjects of the work can be converged with loyalty to the family of Kim Il-sung and his country. In the background of the events of the times, ordinary figures grow as socialist heroes, works depicting their achievements, and works focusing on science and technology and hard work. The selection of these works was based on North Korean history and literary history. North Korea also focused heavily on genre knowledge and the author"s literary work. In addition, North Korea was pursuing various educational activities related to film by considering it as an educational sanction. Learning activities are developed through ‘acquisition of knowledge → activity of various languages through literary works → formation of attitudes.’ Integrated language literacy. It is hoped that such a textbook inquiry can be a useful reference for designing literature education after the reunification of the two Koreas.

      • 산업수학 활성화를 위한 국내 생태계 분석

        Recently, industrial mathematics has been paid growing attention as the source of industrial innovation. Since the birth of mathematics, it has driven most of scientific and technological research as the basic tool of research. As science and technology get more and more complex, it is more widely accepted that many of challenges which industry and society are facing can successfully be handled by mathematical knowledge. For the last decade, advanced countries have competitively endeavored to promote industrial mathematics, and Korea also has been concerned about the importance of mathematics in national innovation system. Promoting industrial mathematics implies the linkage between interests of academia and industry. Even though the importance of industrial mathematics is widely discussed, measuring or diagnosing the gap between academia and industry has not been thoroughly inquired. Effective policies for reducing the gap should be based on the exact understanding of how far the two bodies are. In this study, we have investigated the gap between academia and industry in adopting and utilizing mathematics. For academic side, we have investigated the recent trend of departmental status in universities, the characteristics of R&D projects executed by professors, and the career of newly released Ph. D. holders in mathematical sciences. Combining the results with those of the interview with small and start-up companies related with mathematics, we have concluded that the interests of academia and industry are a long way away from each other. Based on these findings, we have proposed the tasks for promoting industrial mathematics in three aspects; academia, industry, and intermediating body.
