Yoshida, M.,Yamamoto, S.,Murakami, T.,Tanaka, M.,Nakaya, T.,Nishikawa, K.,Joo, K.K.,Kim, B.J.,Kim, J.Y.,Kim, S.B.,Lee, M.J.,Lim, I.T. IEEE 2004 IEEE transactions on nuclear science Vol.51 No.6
Readout electronics for the scintillation bar tracking detector (SciBar) in the K2K neutrino oscillation experiment has been developed. SciBar has 14 336 scintillator bars in total. The deposited energy and timing of particles from neutrino interactions in the scintillator bars are measured by 64-channel multianode photo-multiplier tubes (MAPMTs). Compact custom-designed electronics to record the MAPMT signals were developed, consisting of front-end circuit boards attached to each MAPMT and back-end electronics modules sitting in a VME crate. The front-end circuit board multiplexes pulse-height information from all 64 anodes and generates a fast triggering signal. Two sets of ASICs (IDEAS VA32HDR11 and TA32CG) are employed for these functions. The bias voltages and relay of control signals are also handled on the board. The back-end electronics module controls the front-end board by providing the control, timing, and low-voltage signals. The board also digitizes the multiplexed signal from the front-end. The electronics achieves low noise of less than 0.3 photo-electrons and good linearity up to 300 (150) photo-electrons for MAPMTs at the gain of 5×105 (106).

We have succeeded in preparing single crystalline lms of BaFeO3, which may contain unusual Fe4+ ions, on (100) SrTiO3 substrates by pulsed laser beam deposition. The RHEED patterns for the lms on the (100) substrates apparently show a C4 symmetry, suggesting that the sample had a pseudo-cubic perovskite structure rather than hexagonal unit cell. The (100) epitaxially grown lms were found to be highly insulating, up to the leakage current density lower than 1 A/cm2 at the bias voltage of ..1:5 V. In addition, the lms showed a high value of dielectric constant of " = 59, and relatively small dissipation factor of about 0.07 at 100 kHz. The samples were also revealed to have a remanent magnetization at 300 K.

We have performed the soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) on the heavy fermion superconductor CeNi₂Ge₂ to examine the local 4f electronic structures. The XAS spectra are qualitatively explained by the ionic calculation, indicating the localized character of the 4f states, while the sizable cf-hybridization effects are also observed in the XAS spectra and those magnetic circular dichroism. In addition, the temperature dependence of linear dichroism (LD) in the XAS spectra indicates that the ground state symmetry is Γ7, and the excited states with Γ6 symmetry is above 390 K.

<P>Surveys of the ion and electron heat transports of neutral beam (NB) heating plasma were carried out by power balance analysis in He and H rich plasma at LHD. Collisionality was scanned by changing density and heating power. The characteristics of the transport vary depending on collisionality. In low collisionality, with low density and high heating power, an ion internal transport barrier (ITB) was formed. The ion heat conductivity (<I>χ</I> i) is lower than electron heat conductivity (<I>χ</I> e) in the core region at <I>ρ</I> < 0.7. On the other hand, in high collisionality, with high density and low heating power, <I>χ</I> i is higher than <I>χ</I> e across the entire range of plasma. These different confinement regimes are associated with different fluctuation characteristics. In ion ITB, fluctuation has a peak at <I>ρ</I> = 0.7, and in normal confinement, fluctuation has a peak at <I>ρ</I> = 1.0. The two confinement modes change gradually depending on the collisionality. Scans of concentration ratio between He and H were also performed. The ion confinement improvements were investigated using gyro-Bohm normalization, taking account of the effective mass and charge. The concentration ratio affected the normalized <I>χ</I> i only in the edge region (<I>ρ</I> ~ 1.0). This indicates ion species effects vary depending on collisionality. Turbulence was modulated by the fast ion loss instability. The modulation of turbulence is higher in H rich than in He rich plasma.</P>

This paper describes the fuse-blowing characteristics for higher-voltage direct current (HVDC) power feeding systems. We developed a new fuse model, and evaluated the fuse-blowing characteristics and the effect of cable length. From the results, the electrical stability of HVDC power feeding system when a shorting accident or an overcurrent occurs is discussed.

Various effects of geometry on the magnetic properties at microwave frequencies ( 20 GHz)are systematically studied for micro- and nano-structured ferromagnetic thin films with fourfoldin-plane magnetic anisotropy by using micromagnetic simulations. Obtained numerical results onthe dynamics of the micro- and the nano-structured magnetic thin film are useful for design considerationsfor various high-frequency devices, including thin-film inductors, microwave filters andabsorbers. The permeability and the resonance frequency are found to be well scaled with a structuralparameter of w/t (w = lateral pattern size and t = film thickness) for pattern sizes that differby an order of magnitude. An exceptional resonance behavior of the smallest pattern with w =0.5 µm was reasoned to be significant in suppressing the precession in the vicinity of the patternedge. We also demonstrated that stable magnetization directions orthogonal to each other could beswitched with external fields, enabling local control of the permeability in the structured pattern.
EFFECTS OF DIETARY PROTEINS ON THE ACTIVITIES OF LIPOGENIC ENZYMES IN THE LIVER OF GROWING CHICKS
Tanaka, K.,Okamoto, T.,Ohtani, S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1992 Animal Bioscience Vol.5 No.1
In Experiment 1, when fasted chicks were fed diets containing various sources of protein for 3 days, the activities of lipogenic enzymes (acetyl-CoA carboxylase, fatty acid synthetase, citrate cleavage enzyme and malic enzyme) in the liver of growing chicks were significantly lower in the soybean protein or gluten diet than in the casein or fish protein diet. Triglycride contents of the liver and plasma of chicks fed the casein or fish protein diet were significantly lower than that of those fed soybean protein or gluten diet. In Experiment 2, the effects of dietary amino acid mixture simulating casein or protein on the activities of hepatic lipogenic enzymes were examined. The activities of acetyl-CoA carboxylase and fatty acid synthetase in the liver of chicks fed the casein diet were significantly higher than that of those fed the soybean protein diet or two diets of amino acid mixtures. Furthermore, there were no significant differences between the two diets of amino acid mixture based on casein or soybean protein. However, the activities of malic enzyme and citrate cleavage enzyme tended to be lower in the soybean-type amino acid diet than in the casein-type amino acid diet. Thus, some effects can be ascribed to the protein itself and some to the amino acid composition of the protein sources.
