Potassium tantalate niobate (KTal-xNbxO3, KTN) is a ferroelectric material with an extremely high electro-optic (EO) coefficient suitable for integrated photonic device. In the K-Ta-Nb-O system, the perovskite structure KTN with the ferroelectric properties is generally hard to deposit due to high volatility of potassium(K). By controlling K contents in a KTN ceramic target, the crystal structure can be formed from pyrochlore to perovskite phase. In this presentation, we will analyze the effects of K-enriched targets on the phase-formation process in KTN films and its structural differences.

An endolichenic fungus, Xylaria grammica strain EL000614, showed strong nematicidal effects against plant pathogenic nematode, Meloidogyne incognita by producing grammicin. We report genome assembly of X. grammica EL000614 comprised of 25 scaffolds with a total length of 54.73 Mb, N50 of 4.60 Mb, and 99.8% of BUSCO completeness. GC contents of this genome were 44.02%. Gene families associated with biosynthesis of secondary metabolites or regulatory proteins were identified out of 13,730 gene models predicted.

In 2007, Comparative Fungal Genomics Platform (CFGP; http://cfgp.snu.ac.kr/) was publicly open with 65 genomes corresponding to 58 fungal and Oomycete species. The CFGP provided six bioinformatics tools, including a novel tool entitled BLASTMatrix that enables search homologous genes to queries in multiple species simultaneously. CFGP also introduced Favorite, a personalized virtual space for data storage and analysis with these six tools. Since 2007, CFGP has grown to archive 283 genomes corresponding to 152 fungal and Oomycete species as well as 201 genomes that correspond to seven bacteria, 39 plants and 105 animals. In addition, the number of tools in Favorite increased to 27. The Taxonomy Browser of CFGP 2.0 allows users to interactively navigate through a large number of genomes according to their taxonomic positions. The user interface of BLASTMatrix was also improved to facilitate subsequent analyses of retrieved data. A newly developed genome browser, Seoul National University Genome Browser (SNUGB), was integrated into CFGP 2.0 to support graphical presentation of diverse genomic contexts. Based on the standardized genome warehouse of CFGP 2.0, several systematic platforms designed to support studies on selected gene families have been developed. Most of them are connected through Favorite to allow of sharing data across the platforms.

DNA methylation regulates gene expression and contributes totumorigenesis in the early stages of cancer. In colorectal cancer(CRC), CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) is recognizedas a distinct subset that is associated with specific molecularand clinical features. In this study, we investigated the genomewideDNA methylation patterns among patients with CRC. The methylation data of 1 unmatched normal, 142 adjacentnormal, and 294 tumor samples were analyzed. We identified40,003 differentially methylated positions with 6,933 (79.8%)hypermethylated and 16,145 (51.6%) hypomethylated probesin the genic region. Hypermethylated probes were predominantlyfound in promoter-like regions, CpG islands, and N shore sites;hypomethylated probes were enriched in open-sea regions. CRC tumors were categorized into three CIMP subgroups, with90 (30.6%) in the CIMP-high (CIMP-H), 115 (39.1%) in theCIMP-low (CIMP-L), and 89 (30.3%) in the non-CIMP group. The CIMP-H group was associated with microsatellite instabilityhightumors, hypermethylation of MLH1, older age, and rightsidedtumors. Our results showed that genome-wide methylationanalyses classified patients with CRC into three subgroupsaccording to CIMP levels, with clinical and molecular featuresconsistent with previous data.

Integrated pest management is essential for controlling plant diseases that reduce crop yields. Rapid diagnosis is crucial for effective management in the event of an outbreak to identify the cause and minimize damage. Diagnosis methods range from indirect visual observation, which can be subjective and inaccurate, to machine learning and deep learning predictions that may suffer from biased data. Direct molecular-based methods, while accurate, are complex and time-consuming. However, the development of large multimodal models, like GPT-4, combines image recognition with natural language processing for more accurate diagnostic information. This study introduces GPT-4-based system for diagnosing plant diseases utilizing a detailed knowledge base with 1,420 host plants, 2,462 pathogens, and 37,467 pesticide instances from the official plant disease and pesticide registries of Korea. The AI plant doctor offers interactive advice on diagnosis, control methods, and pesticide use for diseases in Korea and is accessible at https://pdoc.scnu.ac.kr/.
