Changes in Quality Characteristics of Pork Patties Containing Antioxidative Fish Skin Peptide or Fish Skin Peptideloaded Nanoliposomes during Refrigerated Storage

        Jing-Jing Bai,Jung-Gyu Lee,Sang-Yoon Lee,Soojin Kim,Mi-Jung Choi,Youngjae Cho 한국축산식품학회 2017 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.37 No.5

Marine fish skin peptides (FSP) have been widely studied due to their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. We aimed to use a natural antioxidant, FSP, to replacing synthetic preservatives in a pork patty model, which is safer for human body. Moreover, nano-liposome technology can be applied for masking the fishy smell and improving the stability of this peptide. Therefore, in this study, the effects of FSP and FSP-loaded liposomes (FSPL) on pork patty were evaluated through the tests of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), color, cooking loss, texture, volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), and the pH value, during 14 d of refrigerated (4°C) storage. The results showed that all FSP-treated patties had lower TBARS values than control patties, which indicated an inhibitory effect of FSP on lipid oxidation. This effect in the patties depended on the FSP concentration. However, FSPL-treated patties showed significantly higher and undesirable TBARS values compared to the control, and this effect depended on the FSPL concentration. None of the physicochemical results showed remarkable changes except the pH and VBN values. Therefore, this study provides evidence that FSP has great potential to inhibit the lipid oxidation of pork patties and is capable of maintaining the quality and extending the shelf life. However, it is necessary to study the application of FSP treatments greater than 3% to improve the antioxidant effect on pork patties and search for other coating materials and technology to reduce the drawbacks of FSP.

Transcriptional profiling of MED Bemisia tabaci exposed to thermal stress and verification of HSP70 expression

        Bai Jing,Liu Xiao‐Na,Lu Ming‐Xing,Du Yu‐Zhou 한국곤충학회 2021 Entomological Research Vol.51 No.5

Temperature changes impact agricultural production and also influence the behavior and community structure of many insect species. Bemisia tabaci, is an invasive and destructive pest with at least 44 cryptic species and occurring in over 100 countries and regions. In this study, transcriptional profiling was used to evaluate the response of the Mediterranean (MED) cryptic species B. tabaci exposed to cold and hot temperature stress. In response to cold stress, 3,024 unigenes were differentially expressed and mapped to 39 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment pathways. A total of 4,437 unigenes were differentially expressed during heat stress, and these represented 18 KEGG enrichment pathways. Quantitative RT-PCR was used to determine the relative expression level of the 11 HSP70 fragments; these were significantly up-regulated during high temperature stress relative to the control group that was maintained at 26°C. In conclusion, the transcriptome data indicated that B. tabaci responds to thermal stress via multiple genes and networks. Furthermore, HSP70 plays an important role in stress tolerance of the MED B. tabaci, especially during heat stress.

      • Vibration characteristics of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite double-beams in thermal environments

        Jing-Lei Zhao,Xu Chen,Gui-Lin She,Yan Jing,Ru-Qing Bai,Jin Yi,Hua-Yan Pu,Jun Luo 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.43 No.6

This paper presents an investigation on the free vibration characteristics of functionally graded nanocomposite double-beams reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The double-beams coupled by an interlayer spring, resting on the elastic foundation with a linear layer and shear layer, and is simply supported in thermal environments. The SWCNTs gradient distributed in the thickness direction of the beam forms different reinforcement patterns. The materials properties of the functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC) are estimated by rule of mixture. The first order shear deformation theory and Euler-Lagrange variational principle are employed to derive the motion equations incorporating the thermal effects. The vibration characteristics under several patterns of reinforcement are presented and discussed. We conducted a series of studies aimed at revealing the effects of the spring stiffness, environment temperature, thickness ratios and carbon nanotube volume fraction on the nature frequency.

      • Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor-Related DNA Repair and Radiation-Resistance Regulatory Mechanisms: A Mini-Review

Bai, Jing,Guo, Xiao-Guang,Bai, Xiao-Ping Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) overexpression is associated with resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The EGFR modulates DNA repair after radiation-induced damage through an association with the catalytic subunit of DNA protein kinase. DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are the most lethal type of DNA damage induced by ionizing radiation, and non-homologous end joining is the predominant pathway for repair of radiation-induced DSBs. Some cell signaling pathways that respond to normal growth factors are abnormally activated in human cancer. These pathways also invoke the cell survival mechanisms that lead to resistance to radiation. The molecular connection between the EGFR and its control over DNA repair capacity appears to be mediated by one or more signaling pathways downstream of this receptor. The purpose of this mini-review was not only to highlight the relation of the EGFR signal as a regulatory mechanism to DNA repair and radiation resistance, but also to provide clues to improving existing radiation resistance through novel therapies based on the above-mentioned mechanism.

Enhancement of Porosity and Strength of Porous Al2O3 Ceramics by Al(H2PO4)3 Addition

        Bai, Jiahai,Piao, Jiasi,Gao, Jie,He, Jing,Du, Qingyang,Li, Chengfeng The Korean Ceramic Society 2019 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.56 No.4

Porous alumina ceramics with addition of 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 were sintered at 1300, 1350, and 1400℃. The effects of the Al(H2PO4)3 addition on crystal phases, water absorption, open porosity, pore size distribution, microstructures, and flexural strength were studied extensively. The experimental results revealed that only characteristic peaks of corundum were indexed in the XRD patterns of the as-prepared porous ceramics. The water absorption and open porosity of the porous Al2O3 ceramics increased remarkably with an increase in Al(H2PO4)3 addition. The flexural strength first increased to a maximum value when 5 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 was added and then decreased as additional Al(H2PO4)3 was further added. SEM images showed that the average Al2O3 grain size in the porous ceramics changed in an opposite way as the flexural strength. The porous Al2O3 ceramics with 10 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 addition exhibited comparable flexural strength to the ceramics without Al(H2PO4)3 addition, although the latter had much higher porosity.

Structures, biomimetic synthesis, and anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity of two pairs of enantiomeric phenylpropanoid-conjugated protoberberine alkaloids from the rhizomes of Corydalis decumbens

        Jing-Guang Lu,Yingwei Wang,Ming-Rong Yang,Cai-Yun Wang,Jieru Meng,Jiazheng Liu,Zifeng Yang,Kongsong Wu,Li-Ping Bai,Guo-Yuan Zhu,Zhi-Hong Jiang 대한약학회 2022 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.45 No.9

(±)-Decumicorine A ( 1 ) and (±)- epi -decumicorine A ( 2 ), two pairs of enantiomeric isoquinoline alkaloids featuring a novel phenylpropanoid-conjugated protoberberine skeleton, were isolated and purifi ed from the rhizomes of Corydalis decumbens . The separation of (±)- 1 and (±)- 2 was achieved by chiral HPLC to produce four optically pure enantiomers. The structures and absolute confi gurations of compounds (−)- 1 , (+)- 1 , (−)- 2 , and (+)- 2 were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, ECD calculations, and X-ray crystallographic analyses. The two racemates were generated from a Diels-Alder [4 + 2] cycloaddition between jatrorrhizine and ferulic acid in the proposed biosynthetic pathways, which were fully verifi ed by a biomimetic synthesis. Moreover, compound (+)- 1 exhibited an antiviral entry eff ect on SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus by blocking spike binding to the ACE2 receptor on HEK-293T-ACE2 h host cells.

Subcarrier and Power Allocation for Multiuser MIMO-OFDM Systems with Various Detectors

( Jing Mao ),( Chen Chen ),( Lin Bai ),( Haige Xiang ),( Jinho Choi ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2017 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.11 No.10

Resource allocation plays a crucial role in multiuser multiple input multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems to improve overall system performance. While previously proposed resource allocation algorithms are mainly designed from the point of view of the information-theoretic, we formulate the resource allocation problem as an average bit error rate (BER) minimization problem subject to a total power constraint when considering employing realistic MIMO detection techniques. Subsequently, we derive the optimal subcarrier and power allocation algorithms for three types of well-known MIMO detectors, including the maximum likelihood (ML) detector, linear detectors, and successive interference cancellation (SIC) detectors. To reduce the complexity, we also propose a two-step suboptimal algorithm that separates subcarrier and power allocation for each detector. We also analyze the diversity gain of the proposed suboptimal algorithms for various MIMO detectors. Simulation results confirm that the proposed suboptimal algorithm for each detector can achieve a comparable performance with the optimal allocation with a much lower complexity. Moreover, it is shown that the suboptimal algorithms perform better than the conventional algorithms that are known in the literature.

      • Predictive Role of GSTs on the Prognosis of Breast Cancer Patients with Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

        Bai, Yun-Lu,Zhou, Bing,Jing, Xiao-Yue,Zhang, Bin,Huo, Xiao-Qing,Ma, Chao,He, Jian-Miao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10

Objective: To evaluate the predictive value of GST gene polymorphisms with regard to prognosis of breast cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: A total of 159 patients were included in our study between January 2005 and January 2007. All the patients were followed up until January 2012. Genotyping was based upon the duplex polymerase-chain-reaction with the PCR-CTPP method. Results: Patients with null GSTM1 and GSTP1 Val/Val genotypes had significantly had better response rates to chemotherapy when compared with non-null GSTM1 and GSTP1 Ile/Ile genotypes (OR=1.96 and OR=2.14, respectively). Patients with the GSTM1 null genotype had a longer average survival time and significantly lower risk of death than did those with non-null genotypes (HR=0.66). Similarly, those carrying the GSTP1 Val/Val genotype had 0.54-fold the risk of death of those with GSTP1 Ile/Ile (HR=0.54). Conclusion: A significant association was found between GSTM1 and GSTP1 gene polymorphisms and clinical outcomes in breast cancer cases.

Molecular Characteristics and Resistant Mechanisms of Imipenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Isolates in Shenyang, China

Jing Ping Zhang,Wan Zhu,Su Fei Tian,Yun Zhuo Chu,Bai Yi Chen 한국미생물학회 2010 The journal of microbiology Vol.48 No.5

The investigation was carried out to elucidate the molecular characteristics and resistant mechanisms of imipenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. Thirty-seven isolates were collected from January 2007 to December 2007. The homology of the isolates was analyzed by both pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). The genes of β-lactamases, adeB, and class 1 integron were polymerase chain reaction amplified. Genotype analysis of the 37 A. baumannii isolates by PFGE revealed the circulation of four PFGE types (A-D) ; the A- and B-type accounted for 48.6% and 40.5%, respectively. MLST showed the existence of three allelic profiles. The agar dilution method was carried out to determine the MIC of imipenem, in the absence or presence of carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP, 10 μg/ml). The MICs of the strains to imipenem were between 16 μg/ml and 128 μg/ml. When CCCP was added, a MIC decrease of at least four-fold was observed in 20 isolates, which belonged to the A- or C-type. AdeB and blaPER-1 genes were each detected in 35 isolates, blaOXA-23 gene in 34 isolates and blaOXA-58-like gene in 24 isolates. All isolates harbored blaOXA-51-like genes. No isolates carried the blaIMP-1 gene. Integron was detected in 25 isolates, which mediated the resistance to aminoglycosides and rifampin. The epidemiologic data suggested that the increasing infection of A. baumannii in our hospital was mainly caused by the inter-hospital spread of two epidemic clones. The AdeABC efflux system may be the important factor that leads to the high level of imipenem-resistance in PFGE A-type.
