      • A New Approach for Test Detection Using Homoge

        In this paper, a new approach for text detection in images and video based on homogeneity is studied. The texture analysis is applied to the homogeneity domain. Both local information and global information are used while calculating the homogeneity feature. Text region property is confirmed by using neural network trained to extract property feature by a fixed size text detector in homogeneity domain. Comparisons with text detection edge‐based method show that the proposed method has a better accuracy.

        어린이 뮤지엄의 경험론적 공간 특성에 관한 연구

        (연구 배경 및 목적) 뮤지엄은 단순한 보존과 수집의 기능에서 사회적 서비스 및 교육의 장으로서 많은 행사와 이벤트를 진행하고 있다. 이는 과거의 뮤지엄 역할에 기능적인 확대가 일어나고 있는 것이다. 현재 어린이 뮤지엄은 어린이의 교육을 위하여 여러 가지 교육 프로그램을 모색하고 있다. 어린이 교육의 패러다임은 과거 전통적인 주입식 지식 학습에서 아동의 신체, 인지, 정서를 위한 능동적 체험으로 변화하고 있다. 이는 어린이가 스스로 보고 만지고 느끼면서 경험하며, 얻은 지식을 재구성하고 의문을 제기하며, 스스로 뇌의 자극을 통하여 답을 찾는 과정을 중요시하는 것이다. 어린이 뮤지엄 또한 이러한 능동적 자극이 중요하다. 본 연구는 어린이의 인지발달과 진보주의적 경험을 강조한 존 듀이의 경험론을 근거로 어린이 뮤지엄 공간에 나타는 경험론적 특성을 구분하고, 실제로 구현된 어린이 뮤지엄 분석을 통해 그 특성들이 어린이 뮤지엄 공간디자인에 활용될 수 있는 방안을 제시함에 그 목적이 있다. (연구방법) 본 연구의 방법은 경험 이론을 중심으로 하여 문헌 고찰을 통해 어린이 인지 발달론과 듀이의 경험적 특성에 대한 관계를 알아본다. 또한 선행연구를 바탕으로 어린이 뮤지엄의경험론적 공간 특성에 대한 키워드를 도출하였다. 앞서 어린이 뮤지엄의 경험론적 공간 특성을 토대로 사례 분석의 틀을 도출하여 어린이 뮤지엄 공간에 대해 분석하였다. 경험적 공간을 중심으로 2000년 이후 국 내·외에서 발행된 서적, 잡지 및 기존 연구 논문에서 가장 많이 언급된 서울상상나라와 국립 중앙 어린이 박물관을 국내 사례로 선정하였다. 또한, 어린이뮤지엄학, 교육학과 커뮤니케이션학에 있어서 최신 발전을 반영하고 있는 일본의 키즈 플라자와 2015년 국제 어린이뮤지엄 상을 수상한 ZOOM 어린이박물관과 보스턴 어린이 박물관을 국제 사례로 선정하였다. (결과) 어린이 뮤지엄 공간과 존 듀이의 경험론에 대한 선행 연구 고찰을 통하여 어린이 뮤지엄 공간에서 나타나는 경험적 특성을 감각 참여성, 매체 연상성, 자발적인 역동성, 과정 중심성, 총체적 연속성의 다섯 가지로 구분할 수 있었다. 도출된 특성을 바탕으로 사례를 분석한 결과 전반적으로 어린이 뮤지엄의 경험론적 공간 특성 중 총체적 연속성이 높게 나타났으며 매체적 연상성 또한 높은 수준을 나타냈다. 또한, 영유아를 대상으로 하는 뮤지엄일수록 감각적 참여성과 매체적 연상성에 대한 비중은 비교적 높은 수준을 나타내는 반면 5세 이상의 어린이 뮤지엄은 감각과 매체적 연상성에 대한 비중은 비교적 낮은 지수를 나타내므로 대상에 따른 차이를 보였다. (결론) 이러한 공간의 경험적 특성은 어린이들에게 신체적 발달, 상상력과 창의성을 유발하는데 큰 도움이 된다. 어린이가 어려서 경험으로부터 받은 영향은 지속적이고 지구성이 있기 때문에 본 연구에서 제시한 경험적 어린이 뮤지엄의 공간적 특성은 보편적 기준으로 확대될 필요가 있다. (Background and Purpose) Currently, children's museums are looking for various educational programs. The paradigm of education of children is shifting from the traditional methodology of passive learning to active learning for the body, cognition, and emotion of children. The active learning places importance on searching for answers through stimulation of the brain, by reconstructing and questioning the received information, which consists of visual, tactile, and sensory experiences. Based on John Dewey's empirical theory that emphasizes cognitive development and progressive experience, this study aims to distinguish the empirical space characteristics that appear in a children's museum, and to suggest how such characteristics can be utilized in a spatial design of children's museum through analysis of actual museums that implemented the empirical characteristics into their design. (Method) First,€the relationship between children's cognitive development theory and Dewey empirical characteristics was examined through a literature review. Second, key concepts of empirical space characteristics of children's museum were derived from a review of the previous studies. The framework of case analysis was derived from the key concepts and was utilized to analyze the children's museum space. Seoul Children’s Museum and the National Children's Museum of Korea, the most mentioned in publications, including magazines and research papers, in Korea and abroad since 2000, were selected as domestic cases. For international cases, Kids Plaza in Osaka, Japan was selected for its implementation of latest developments regarding children's museum, education and communication studies, and the ZOOM Children's Museum and the Boston Children's Museum, which received the 2015 International Children's Museum Award, were selected as international cases. (Results) The empirical space characteristics that appear in the children's museum and John Dewey's empirical theory were divided into five categories: sensory participation, media association, spontaneous dynamism, process centrality and wholistic continuity. In general, the analysis of the five categories of children's museum space resulted in a high level of wholistic continuity and media association. Also, the study presented different results according to the subject; the sensory participation and media association were presented in higher levels in museums for infants and toddlers, while they were presented in lower levels in museums for age five and above. (Conclusion) The empirical space characteristics of children's museum are of great help in triggering physical development, imagination, and creativity in children. Such characteristics of children's museum presented in this study need to be expanded to universal standards, as the effects of childhood experience are persistent.

        Effect of Time Interval on Speed Estimation using Single Loop Detector Measurements

        Considering the importance of estimating speed from single loop detector measurements for many Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) related applications, a variety of algorithms have been developed in the literature for specific time intervals. However,the performance of these algorithms over a spectrum of time intervals has not yet received appropriate attention in the transportation research community. In this study, a Kalman filter based algorithm is selected as a typical representative and investigated over a spectrum of 30 time intervals starting from 1-minute to 30-minute with one minute increment. Empirical results using real world data show that the selected algorithm has workable performances for most of the time intervals under investigation. Specifically, the performances of the selected approach improve for intervals from 1-minute to 5-minute, stay stable for intervals between 5-minute and 15-minute, and decrease slightly for longer time intervals greater than 15-minute. The results demonstrate the ability of the selected algorithm to be readily implemented in a variety of transportation applications with specific time interval needs. Future work is recommended to develop a framework of coupling speed estimating algorithms and real world transportation applications through investigating other single loop speed estimation approaches and ITS application related time interval needs.

        Influence mechanism of nano-SiO2 on water molecular diffusion at liquid-solid interface of natural ester and cellulose

        It is necessary to study the micro mechanism of water diffusion behavior at the liquid-solid interfacebetween natural esters and cellulose by adding nanoparticles to natural esters, the unmodified andnano-SiO2 modified natural ester-cellulose mixing models were established by molecular simulationtechnology. The effects of nanoparticles on the moisture at the liquid-solid interface in the naturalester-cellulose insulation system were analyzed from the perspectives of relative concentration distribution,density field, interaction energy and hydrogen bonding. The simulation results show that watermolecules in natural ester tend to diffuse from natural ester to cellulose in all models, the binding effectof water molecules on cellulose in the nano-modified model is weakened, and the water peak in celluloseis reduced by 57% compared with the unmodified model, so that the moisture impurities in the nanomodifiedmodel cellulose are absorbed to the natural ester-cellulose interface, reducing the damage ofmoisture to the cellulose, which helps to improve the resistance of the natural ester-cellulose insulationcombination aging ability.

        Are Chinese Edible Oils Safe? A Survey of Trans Fatty Acid Contents in Chinese Edible Oils

        Nine different edible oil types from 7 cities in China were analyzed. Trans fatty acid (TFA) contents in edible oils were determined, TFA distribution characteristics were analyzed, and a risk assessment was performed. Total TFA contents varied from 0.075±0.011 to 2.243±0.770 g/100 g of oil, with a mean content of 0.66 g/100 g of oil. TFA contents differed among different oil types and among different cities. Generally speaking, oil samples from northern areas of China contained more TFA, and lard usually had higher levels of TFA than other oils. An exposure assessment showed that the estimated daily intake of TFA from Chinese edible oils was low, and a risk assessment indicated that there was a low risk for TFA consumption in Chinese edible oils.

        Identification of acidic species extracted from heavy crude oil by fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry

        Acidic species were extracted from heavy crude oil by alcohol-alkali solution and ion exchange resin. Theacidic species in the obtained extracts and extracted crude oil were characterized by negative-ion ESI FT-ICR MS. Theanalytical results indicated that some class species, O2, O1, N1, N1O1, N1O2, N1S1 and O2S1 etc., were identified in thenegative-ion spectrum, in which O2, O1 and N1 class showed much higher abundance than others. Compared to O1 andN1 class, O2 class could be extracted from heavy crude oil by using the two methods more efficiently, which meansthat a great majority of O2 class can be extracted; meanwhile, almost half of O1 and N1 class still remained in residualphase. Detailed analysis demonstrated that alcohol-alkali method was effective for extracting O2, O1 and N1 class withlower molecular weight; ion exchange method, however, was helpful to extract higher molecular weight O1 and N1class and showed almost equal extraction selectivity to all kind of O2 class.

        Dysregulated Free Fatty Acid Receptor 2 Exacerbates Colonic Adenoma Formation in ApcMin/+ Mice: Relation to Metabolism and Gut Microbiota Composition

        Free fatty acid receptor 2 (FFAR2) has been reported as a tumor suppressor in colon cancer development. The current study investigated the effects of FFAR2 signaling on energy metabolism and gut microbiota profiling in a colorectal cancer mouse model (ApcMin/+). Ffar2 deficiency promoted colonic polyp development and enhanced fatty acid oxidation and bile acid metabolism. Gut microbiome sequencing analysis showed distinct clustering among wild-type, ApcMin/+, and ApcMin/+-Ffar2-/- mice. The relative abundance of Flavobacteriaceae and Verrucomicrobiaceae was significantly increased in the ApcMin/+-Ffar2-/- mice compared to the ApcMin/+ mice. In addition, knocking-down FFAR2 in the human colon cancer cell lines (SW480 and HT29) resulted in increased expression of several key enzymes in fatty acid oxidation, such as carnitine palmitoyltransferase 2, acyl-CoA dehydrogenase, longchain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase, C-2 to C-3 short chain, and hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase/3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase/enoyl-CoA hydratase, alpha subunit. Collectively, these results demonstrated that Ffar2 deficiency significantly altered profiles of fatty acid metabolites and gut microbiome, which might promote colorectal cancer development.
