Optimized Design of Dioxin Analysis for Water Sample

The analytical methods for dioxins in water sample from wastewater to tap water were reviewed. For extraction method, liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) has been widely used, however, this process needs too much time and man power. New approach including solid phase extraction (SPE) is now applicable to large volume of water sample with high extraction efficiency. Column clean up in classical analytical methods were very complex and time consuming procedures during decade. Modifications were tried to decrease solvent and reagents volume. Moreover, use of column connection method has been demonstrated in the environmental matrices. Instrumental configurations also have been improved, in which GC/MS/MS with large volume injection approach can analyze picogram levels. Absolute sensitivities of HRMS increased compared to old versions of double focusing sector type mass spectrometers. Based on these analytical evolutions during last 10 years, we tried to optimize the analytical method for dioxins in water sample from sample extraction to instrumental analysis.

Attenuated portal vein (PV) flow is challenging in pediatric liver transplantation (LT) because it is unsuitable for classic end-to-end jump graft reconstruction from a small superior mesenteric vein (SMV). We thus introduce a novel technique of an end-to-side jump graft from SMV during pediatric LT using an adult partial liver graft. We successfully performed two cases of end-to-side retropancreatic jump graft using an iliac vein graft for PV reconstruction. One patient was a 2-year-old boy with hepatoblastoma and a Yerdel grade 3 PV thrombosis who underwent split LT. Another patient was an 8-month-old girl who had biliary atresia and PV hypoplasia with stenosis on the confluence level of the SMV; she underwent retransplantation because of graft failure related to PV thrombosis. After native PV was resected at the SMV confluence level, an end-to-side reconstruction was done from the proximal SMV to an interposition iliac vein. The interposition vein graft through posterior to the pancreas was obliquely anastomosed to the graft PV. There was no PV related complication during the follow-up period. Using a jump vascular graft in an end-to-side manner to connect the small native SMV and the large graft PV is a feasible treatment option in pediatric recipients with inadequate portal flow due to thrombosis or hypoplasia of the PV.

Sodium ion batteries (SIBs) have attracted considerable attention as an alternative to Li ion batteries(LIBs) because of the sustainable sodium resources and similar chemistry to LIBs. On the other hand, thelarger and heavier sodium results in unfavorable sodium ion storage capacity. In this study, aninexpensive precursor-based conversion material, FeS2, was synthesized as a nanostructured pyritecrystal, <100 nm in size, which has a carbon coating layer, a few nanometers in thickness. The deficientelectrical conductivity of the synthesized FeS2 nanocubes (FeS2-NCs) was strengthened by forming ananohybrid structure with high-aspect ratio graphene oxide nanoribbons containing nitrogen dopants(N-GONRs). N-GONRs bind tightly the FeS2-NCs well-dispersed in the N-GONRs matrix, inducing highlyimproved electrochemical performance as an anode for SIBs. The FeS2-NCs/N-GONRs nanohybrid anodedelivered a high reversible capacity of800 mA h g 1 at 0.2 A g 1, of which approximately 60% wasmaintained at a 50 times higher current rate, indicating high rate capability. In addition, stable cyclingperformance over 200 cycles was achieved with an average capacity of670 mA h g 1. The hybrid anodedemonstrated its feasibility in a full cell test using an O3-type cathode material.
