Screening of nucleon electric dipole moments in nuclei

        Inoue, Satoru,Gudkov, Vladimir,Schindler, Matthias R.,Song, Young-Ho American Physical Society 2016 Physical Review C Vol.93 No.5

A partial screening of nucleon electric dipole moments (EDMs) in nuclear systems, which is related to the Schiff mechanism known for neutral atomic systems, is discussed. It is shown that the direct contribution from the neutron EDM to the deuteron EDM is partially screened by about 1% in a zero-range approximation calculation.

      • TWIST AND CONNECTIVITY OF MAGNETIC FIELD LINES IN THE SOLAR ACTIVE REGION NOAA 10930

        Inoue, S.,Kusano, K.,Magara, T.,Shiota, D.,Yamamoto, T. T. IOP Publishing 2011 The Astrophysical journal Vol.738 No.2

Twist and connectivity of magnetic field lines in the flare-productive active region NOAA 10930 are investigated in terms of the vector magnetograms observed by the Solar Optical Telescope on board the Hinode satellite and the nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation. First, we show that the footpoints of magnetic field lines reconstructed by the NLFFF correspond well to the conjugate pair of highly sheared flare ribbons on the Ca II images, which were observed by Hinode as an X3.4 class flare on 2006 December 13. This demonstrates that the NLFFF extrapolation may be used to analyze the magnetic field connectivity. Second, we find that the twist of magnetic field lines anchored on the flare ribbons increased as the ribbons moved away from the magnetic polarity inversion line in the early phase of the flare. This suggests that magnetic reconnection might commence from a region located below the most strongly twisted field. Third, we reveal that the magnetic flux twisted more than a half turn and gradually increased during the last one day prior to the onset of the flare, and that it quickly decreased for two hours after the flare. This is consistent with the store-and-release scenario of magnetic helicity. However, within this active region, only a small fraction of the flux was twisted by more than one full turn and the field lines that reconnected first were twisted less than one turn. These results imply that the kink mode instability could hardly occur, at least before the onset of flare. Based on our results, we discuss the trigger process of solar flares.

Carbonyl cyanide-4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenylhydrazone-induced toxicities in rats: comparative study with other mitochondrial uncouplers (2,4-dinitrophenol, OPC-163493 and tolcapone)

        Inoue Yuki,Wada Yuko,Sato Makoto,Sato Seiji,Okamoto Takashi,Kanemoto Naohide 한국독성학회 2023 Toxicological Research Vol.39 No.4

FCCP (carbonyl cyanide-4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenylhydrazone) is known to inhibit oxidative phosphorylation as a protonophore, dissipating the proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane. To understand the toxicity of FCCP, 3-day, 2- and 4-week repeated oral dose studies were performed in male rats. In the 3-day and 2-week repeated dose toxicity studies, observations included salivation, increased body temperature, and dead and moribund animals. Increased liver weight was observed in conjunction with hydropic degeneration and centrilobular necrosis of hepatocytes. In addition, pathological changes were observed in the pancreas, testis, epididymal duct, stomach and parotid gland. Electron microscopic examination revealed mitochondrial pleomorphism in the hepatocytes. Swelling of mitochondria was observed in the alpha cells and beta cells of the pancreas. Dilatation of rough endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi bodies and loss of secretory granules were also noted in the beta cells of the pancreas. FCCP was also compared with three other mUncouplers (DNP, OPC-163493 and tolcapone) with regard to in vitro mitochondrial uncoupling (mUncoupling) activities. FCCP produced the peak ΔOCR (oxygen consumption rate) at the lowest concentration (0.4 μM), followed by OPC-163493, tolcapone, and DNP, based on peak values in ascending order of concentration (2.5, 10, and 50 μM, respectively). Considering the relationship between the mUncoupling activity and toxicity profile of the four mUncouplers, there is no parallel relationship between the in vitro mUncoupling activity and the degree of in vivo toxicity. These findings may contribute to the efficient development of new mitochondrial uncoupler candidates.

EAST ASIA VLBI CONSORTIUM AND ITS COMMITTEE

INOUE MAKOTO The Korean Astronomical Society 2005 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.38 No.2

We had the first committee meeting of the East Asia VLBI Consortium during the EAMA6 meeting held in Seoul. A VLBI network composed of telescopes in the East Asia region could provide extreme properties, and the coordination of them has been expected. The Committee of the East Asia VLBI Consortium is a standing committee to promote activities of the consortium, in which participating countries at present are China, Japan, and Korea over eight institutes/observatories. Here we introduce the Consortium and Committee.

Simple Method for the Local Stakeholdersto Evaluate and Select National REDD-plus Program: A Case Study of Indonesia

Inoue, Makoto Institute of Forest Science 2012 Journal of Forest Science Vol.28 No.3

In order not to hinder the trend of promoting participatory forest management under the REDD-plus mechanism, we propose a simple method to support local stakeholders evaluating and selecting promising national programs as REDD-plus activities prior to the launch of activities. Program evaluation is done from the viewpoint of expectations for achieving (1) 'triple-benefit' consisting of emission reduction from mitigating deforestation and forest degradation, biodiversity conservation, and poverty alleviation, and (2) 'feasibility' when the programs would be practiced on the ground. The method is applicable for other countries.

Agarwood Inhibits Histamine Release from Rat Mast Cells and Reduces Scratching Behavior in Mice -Effect of Agarwood on Histamine Release and Scratching Behavior-

        Inoue, Eiji,Shimizu, Yasuharu,Masui, Ryo,Tsubonoya, Tomoe,Hayakawa, Tomomi,Sudoh, Keiichi KOREAN PHARMACOPUNCTURE INSTITUTE 2016 Journal of pharmacopuncture Vol.19 No.3

Objectives: This study was conducted to clarify the effects of agarwood on histamine release from mast cells in rats and on the scratching behaviors in mice. Methods: Histamine release from rat mast cells induced by compound 48/80 or concanavalin A (Con A) and compound 48/80-induced scratching behavior in mice were examined to investigate the effects of agarwood. The hyaluronidase activity and the 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in mast cells were examined to investigate the mechanisms for the inhibition of histamine release. The correlation between the inhibitory effects of agarwood on histamine release and the content of its typical ingredients, a 2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone derivatives, was analyzed using thin-layer chromatography. Results: Agarwood showed an inhibitory effect on mast-cell histamine release induced by compound 48/80 or Con A without any effect on hyaluronidase activity; this effect involves an increase in the cAMP levels in mast cells. Oral administration of agarwood showed an inhibitory effect on compound 48/80-induced scratching behavior in mice. The inhibitory effects of agarwood on histamine release were quite different, depending on the area where the agarwood was produced, its quality, and its market price. No correlation was found between the inhibitory effects of agarwood on histamine release and the typical ingredients of agarwood, which are 2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone derivatives. Conclusion: These results show that agarwood inhibits histamine release from mast cells partially through an increase in the cAMP levels in cells. We suggest that some active ingredients of agarwood must be effective on oral intake and that agarwood can be used to treat patients with a number of conditions, including urticaria, atopic dermatitis, and bronchial asthma, in which an increase in histamine release occurs. Differences in the pharmacological effects of this crude drug among markets may provide important information for the quality control of this herbal medicine.

Model Analysis of IFRS Glocalization: Cases of the EU and the U.S.

        INOUE, Sadako 한국국제회계학회 2020 국제회계연구 Vol.0 No.89

Currently, nearly 160 jurisdictions apply the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), including voluntary applications. However, the phenomenon of diverging from IFRS, namely, the return to local standards, is observed in both the European Union (EU) and the United States (U.S.). That is, accounting standards" globalization is progressing in a way where global and local standards blend. How can these dual phenomena related to IFRS application be interpreted, and how will the globalization of accounting standards evolve in the future? Such a question is similar to the debate over the concept of globalization in international sociology. This study attempts to comprehensively interpret the dual conflicting phenomena associated with the application of IFRS by taking advantage of the globalization discussion in international sociology. Firstly, this study discusses R. Robertson, G. Ritzer, and V. Roudometof, who theoretically deal with the concepts of globalization and glocalization; then, we derive an analytical model based on the discussed theories. Next, the EU and the U.S. are analyzed as examples of these dual conflicting phenomena. The EU has assumed glocalization standards since its inception, though its interest has been gradually shifting to local standards/practices. EU countries will partially adopt IFRS but will continue to maintain local practices. Therefore, their accounting standards will become increasingly heterogeneous. On the other hand, because the U.S. does not make clear the relationship between U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS, the results vary. When the relationship is mutually exclusive, and the U.S. GAAP improvement is valued, a so-called localization of accounting standards will occur. Conversely, if promoting the introduction of IFRS is emphasized, the U.S. GAAP will disappear. When the relationship is mutual penetration, the result will be similar to that in the EU case. If the priority of U.S. GAAP improvement increases, U.S. accounting standards will move to heterogeneity-oriented glocalization. If enhancing convergence to IFRS is a top priority, then homogenization-oriented glocalization will follow. In the future, the glocalization of accounting standards will diversify. This study will help to develop the globalization of accounting standards in the future and to consider the role that the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) should play in the future.
