        Minus-C odorant binding protein TcasOBP7G contributes to reproduction and defense against phytochemical in the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum

        Insect odorant binding proteins (OBPs) paly an important role in the recognition and transmission signals. One odorant binding protein gene, TcasOBP7G, was significantly up-regulated after exposure to eucalyptol. Never theless, the causal role of TcasOBP7G in Tribolium castaneum is still unclear. Here, TcasOBP7G was cloned and characterized from T. castaneum, aligning with the typical characteristic of Minus-C OBPs. The analysis of gene expression profile showed that TcasOBP7G is highly expressed at late larval and adult stage, with particularly high expression levels in ovary and testis of adults, suggesting that TcasOBP7G might be associated with reproduction of T. castaneum. Furthermore, RNAi of TcasOBP7G led to a decrease in spawning, while the development of gonads was normal, suggesting that TcasOBP7G may medicate the reproduction of T. castaneum. Additionally, the mRNA level of TcasOBP7G was significantly increased after exposure to eucalyptol, and knockdown of TcasOBP7G resulted in an increased susceptibility of T. castaneum to eucalyptol, indicating that TcasOBP7G is associated with the tolerance of T. castaneum to eucalyptol. Altogether, these results indicate that TcasOBP7G is required for both reproduction and defense against phytochemical in T. castaneum. This study will provide a theoretical basis for the development of novel control strategies based on the olfaction of insects.

      • Segmentation for Noisy Image Based on Geodesic Distance and Graph cuts

        The paper introduces a Graph cuts method which is based on geodesic distance framework, which can achieve image denoising. A new method to compute the geodesic distance is introduced in this paper firstly, then new method combines geodesic with Graph cuts algorithm. What’s more, based on the denoising constraint, the method changes the computing method of graph’s edge weight of the image for image segmentation. This method can segment and denoise image which contains a lot of noise effectively.

        Synthesis of multi-port converters based on series/parallel input pulsating cells and output pulsating cells

        Due to their advantages of reduced cost, integrated multi-port converters (MPCs) with fewer components have received extensive attention. In this article, by extracting the concept of series/parallel input pulsating cells (IPCs) and output pulsating cells (OPCs), a set of syntheses for generating MPCs composed of IPCs and OPCs is proposed. When compared with the existing synthesis method for non-isolated MPCs, the proposed approach employs only one inductor and features single-stage power conversion between any two ports, which offers benefits in terms of compact size and high efficiency. Two design examples are shown to demonstrate the worth of proposed methodology. The operation principles are first analyzed. The pulsewidth modulation (PWM) and power control schemes are explained and designed in detail. To design the controllers, small-signal models for each of the operation modes are also extracted. Meanwhile, the characteristics of pulsating cells with different configurations are discussed and compared. The theoretical analysis is validated by simulation and experimental results for different operation conditions.

        Coupled inductor based zero‑voltage‑switching buck/boost converter

        This paper proposes a zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) Buck/Boost converter (BBC). In addition, an auxiliary circuit based on a coupled inductor is introduced to realize ZVS for the main MOSFETs. The magnetic coupling inductor plays the role of filtering and provides ZVS conditions for the main MOSFETs. Since all of the switches can achieve soft switching conditions, and the conduction loss of the auxiliary circuit is small, the conversion efficiency for the overall system is improved. When compared with the traditional ZVS implementation methods based on magnetic coupling inductors used in Buck, Boost, and Buck/Boost converters, the proposed topology can prevent current notches on the current waveform of the input source. Since there are no notches on the input source current, when the proposed ZVS implementation method is applied to an interleaved parallel BBC structure, it has a smaller current ripple of the input source. Finally, experimental results are given and analyzed. Based on these results, both the ZVS conditions and efficiency improvement are verified.

      • Research in Distributed Evolution based on Real-time Collaboration Technology

        Evolution design takes the advantage of the evolution technology into the art design, and designers can achieve satisfactory products by performing evolutionary operations. It’s a powerful method in the procedure of the art design. However, the traditional evolution running on single site leads to the low efficiency and the less diversity. In addition, the products just represent the aesthetics of the single site. Based on these problems, this paper aims at using distributed evolution technology to complete the collaborative evolution, broadcasting evolutionary operations among distributed sites and executing evolutionary operations on each site. Then, the acquired products could represent the aesthetics of most sites due to its rich diversity. The paper mainly solves the problems of the operation conflicts which come from different sites, builds a new hybrid document model designs several algorithms based on Operation Transformation (OT) to solve the conflicts, and describes the procedure of the consistency maintenance. The proposed solution has been theoretically verified for its correctness in hybrid model.

        Performance differences of Rhode Island Red, Bashang Long-tail Chicken, and their reciprocal crossbreds under natural cold stress

        Objective: The Bashang Long-tail chicken (BS), an indigenous Chinese breed, is considered cold tolerant. We selected BS, the Rhode Island Red (RIR), and their reciprocal crossbreds for the present study. The objectives were: i) to validate whether BS is cold tolerant and whether egg production and cold tolerance of crossbreds could be improved; and ii) to determine the physiological characteristics that underlie cold tolerance and favorable egg production performance in cold environments. Methods: A total of 916 chickens were reared in warm and natural cold environments (daily mean ambient temperature varied from $7.4^{\circ}C$ to $26.5^{\circ}C$ in the warm environment and from $-17.5^{\circ}C$ to $27.0^{\circ}C$ in the cold environment). To investigate their adaptability to the cold environment, the egg production performance and body weight were monitored and compared between breeds and environments. The cloacal temperature and serum biochemical parameters were monitored to reveal the physiological characteristics underlie cold tolerance and favorable egg production performance in the cold environment. Results: The warm environment experiment showed that RIR had the highest egg production performance, and that the reciprocal crossbreds had a higher egg production performance than BS. While in the cold environment RIR had the lowest egg production performance, and the reciprocal crossbreds had a higher egg production performance than BS. In the cold environment BS and reciprocal crossbreds had higher triiodothyronine, tetraiodothyronine levels than RIR. At 35 and 39 wk of age, when the ambient temperature was extremely low (varied from $-20^{\circ}C$ to $0^{\circ}C$), serum glucose, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estradiol of BS and crossbreds were higher than RIR. Conclusion: Bashang Long-tail chicken has a favorable cold tolerance ability. Crossbreeding with RIR and BS is an effective way to develop cold tolerant chickens with improved egg production performance.

        Analysis of a coupled inductor boost three‑port converter with high voltage gain for renewable energy systems

        A conventional boost three-port converter is combined with a coupled-inductor-based boost-flyback converter in this work to produce a high-step-up three-port converter. The proposed converter inherits the benefits of two conventional converters, including high voltage gain, few elements, and energy recycling of the leakage inductor. In addition, the voltage stresses of switches are considerably lower than the output voltage. Therefore, switches with low ON resistance can be selected to reduce the conduction loss. Additionally, the freewheel diodes are capable of zero-current switching. The operation principle can be divided into three modes of operation, and the three steady-state operation modes are analyzed under each of the three conduction modes. The operation principles of various modes, the voltage characteristics, the boundary of the coupled inductor, and the proposed converter’s control method are discussed in depth to provide detailed theoretical guidance to designers. Then, the simulation and experiment results of a laboratory prototype with an 18 V PV source, 24 V battery pack, and 180 V output are presented to validate the feasibility of the theoretical analysis.

        Effect of Graphene/TiO2 (001) Interface on Threshold Voltage and Nonlinearity

        In this work, the threshold voltage (Vth) and nonlinearity (NL) of Graphene (Gra)/TiO2/Gra heterojunction were studied. First, the density functional tight binding (DFTB+) and much more dynamics were used to investigate the IV curves and the resistive switching properties of TiO2 slab and Gra/TiO2/Gra heterojunction. The NL of Gra/TiO2/Gra heterojunction is stronger than that of the TiO2 slab. The Vth of the resistive transition of the heterojunction is larger than that of the TiO2 slab. The tunneling probabilities and the Mulliken atomic population at the Gra/TiO2 interface under different electric fields were calculated by the Cambridge sequential total energy package (CASTEP). Results showed that both the parameters evidently increased under a certain numerical electric field. Finally, the movement of atom in the electric field and the change in the chemical bond were simulated by DFTB+ module. The effect of the Gra/TiO2 interface on Vth and NL was further illustrated. Postponed Vth and improved NL were found at the heterojunction relative to the TiO2 slab due to the presence of the interface barrier. This work provides guidance and reference for design and optimization of TiO2-based selectors.

        Direct Electrodeposition to Fabricate 3D Graphene Network Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode for Sensitive Determination of Tadalafil

        In this work, pulse potential method (PPM) was presented to fabricate directly three-dimensional graphene (3DG) network on the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The morphological characteristic of 3DG network were investigated by means of Raman spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical experiments. The 3DG network as a new voltammetric material was used to develop a high-sensitive electrochemical sensor for determination of tadalafil. Electrochemical tests showed that the 3DG network can help to enhance response due to the large accessible surface area as well as its excellent conductivity. Under the optimum conditions, the electrochemical response showed a linear relationship with tadalafil concentrations in the range of 5.0 x 10 -8 – 2.5 x 10 -5 mol L -1, and a low detection limit of 1.0 x 10 -8 mol L -1 was achieved for tadalafil. Moreover, the fabricated electrochemical sensor exhibited excellent selectivity, stability, reproducibility and repeatability, which make it very suitable for analytical applications for the trace level determination of tadalafil.
