Fitting of Light Curves for Microquasar V4641 Sgr
Shinji Nishiyama,Jun Fukue,Akira Arai,Kenya Watarai 한국물리학회 2006 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.49 No.4
We report the .tting results of theoretical light curves for microquasar V4641 Sgr. In this study, we apply a new accretion disk model that is presented by Fukue to observed R-band light curves of V4641 Sgr. The new model takes into account the geometrical thickness of the disk, so it may be able to describe the two deep minima of the observed light curves. The best-.t parameters show that the system has a relatively high inclination angle, i = 75±, and that the mass accretion rate is around the Eddington rate. We propose the importance of the geometry of the accretion disk to explain the deep minima observed in this object.
Identification of rRNA Gene Loci in Gentiana scabra var . buergeri Using FISH Technique
이미경,방재욱,Fuku, K 한국유전학회 1996 Genes & Genomics Vol.18 No.4

Objective: We have performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify genetic variants that confer susceptibility to myocardial infarction (MI) in Japanese and Korean populations. Methods: A total of 17,447 Japanese or Korean individuals from four independent subject panels was examined. Japanese subject panels A, B, and C comprised 134 individuals with MI and 137 controls, 1431 individuals with MI and 3161 controls, and 643 individuals with MI and 1347 controls, respectively, whereas the Korean population comprised 1880 individuals with MI and 8714 controls. A GWAS for MI was performed in Japanese subject panel A with the use of the Affymetrix GeneChip Human Mapping 500K Array Set. Results: Seventy single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly (P<1.0x10-7) associated with MI by the GWAS were examined further in Japanese subject panel B, revealing two SNPs (rs6929846 of BTN2A1, rs2569512 of ILF3) to be significantly (P<0.0007) associated with MI. The rs6929846 SNP of BTN2A1, but not rs2569512 of ILF3, was also significantly associated with MI in Japanese subject panel C. However, the association of neither rs6929846 nor rs2569512 with MI was replicated in the Korean population. Conclusion: BTN2A1 may be a susceptibility gene for MI in Japanese individuals.

Transcription and mRNA processing are regulated by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of the C-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA polymerase Ⅱ, which consists of tandem repeats of a Y^(1)S^(2)P^(3)T^(4)S^(5)P^(6)S^(7) heptapeptide. Previous studies showed that members of the plant CTD phosphatase-like (CPL) protein family differentially regulate osmotic stress-responsive and abscisic acid-responsive transcription in Arabidopsis thaliana. Here we report that AtCPL1 and AtCPL2 specifically dephosphorylate Ser-5 of the CTD heptad in Arabidopsis RNA polymerase Ⅱ, but not Ser-2. An N-terminal catalytic domain of CPL1, which suffices for CTD Ser-5 phosphatase activity in virto, includes a signature DXDXT acylphosphatase motif, but lacks a breast cancer 1 CTD, which is an essential component of the fungal and metazoan Fcp1 CTD phosphatase enzymes. The CTD of CPL1, which contains two putative double-stranded RNA binding motifs, is essential for the in vivo function of CPL1 and includes a C-terminal 23-aa signal responsible for its nuclear targeting. CPL2 has a similar domain structure but contains only one double-stranded RNA binding motif. Combining mutant alleles of CPL1 and CPL2 causes synthetic lethality of the male but not the female gametes. These results indicate that CPL1 and CPL2 exemplify a unique family of CTD Ser-5-specific phosphatases with an essential role in plant growth and development.

<P>The zinc transporter protein ZIP13 plays critical roles in bone, tooth, and connective tissue development, and its dysfunction is responsible for the spondylocheirodysplastic form of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (SCD-EDS, OMIM 612350). Here, we report the molecular pathogenic mechanism of SCD-EDS caused by two different mutant ZIP13 proteins found in human patients: ZIP13G64D, in which Gly at amino acid position 64 is replaced by Asp, and ZIP13ΔFLA, which contains a deletion of Phe-Leu-Ala. We demonstrated that both the ZIP13G64D and ZIP13ΔFLA protein levels are decreased by degradation via the valosin-containing protein (VCP)-linked ubiquitin proteasome pathway. The inhibition of degradation pathways rescued the protein expression levels, resulting in improved intracellular Zn homeostasis. Our findings uncover the pathogenic mechanisms elicited by mutant ZIP13 proteins. Further elucidation of these degradation processes may lead to novel therapeutic targets for SCD-EDS.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Previous measurements of the composition of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) made by the High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) and Pierre Auger Observatory (PAO) are seemingly contradictory, but utilize different detection methods, as HiRes was a stereo detector and PAO is a hybrid detector. The five year Telescope Array (TA) Middle Drum hybrid composition measurement is similar in some, but not all, respects in methodology to PAO, and good agreement is evident between data and a light, largely protonic, composition when comparing the measurements to predictions obtained with the QGSJetII-03 and QGSJet-01c models. These models are also in agreement with previous HiRes stereo measurements, confirming the equivalence of the stereo and hybrid methods. The data is incompatible with a pure iron composition, for all models examined, over the available range of energies. The elongation rate and mean values of X max are in good agreement with Pierre Auger Observatory data. This analysis is presented using two methods: data cuts using simple geometrical variables and a new pattern recognition technique.</P>
