How Terrorist Attacks Affect the Volatility of the Pakistani Stock Market?
Faheem Aslam(파힘 아슬람),Eom, Chan-Young(엄찬영),Kang, Hyoung-Goo(강형구) 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 2014 남아시아연구 Vol.19 No.3
This paper measures the impact of terrorist events on Pakistani stock market volatility. By using the EGARCH model, we concludes that terrorist events are significantly associated to the volatility of Karachi stock market. The impact of events varies with location, attack type and target type. Most interestingly, terrorist events have significant impact on volatility one day before the event and day of the event. The market absorb the effect of such shocks and recovers in one day. Moreover, significant negative volatility asymmetry confirms the leverage effect in the market.

This study examined the mechanical properties of a disc consisting of electrospun poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) nanofibers incorporated with high purity hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanoparticles (NPs) for potential hard tissue engineering applications. As HAp NPs are insoluble in a PVA aqueous solution, electrospinning of a colloidal solution was used instead of the conventional process, which is based on completely miscible solutions. The PVA/HAp colloidal solutions were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and electrophoratic light scattering (ELS),which indicated a unimodal size distribution and negative zeta potential. The physiochemical characterizations confirmed the production of PVA electrospun nanofibers incorporating HAp NPs. To investigate the bioactivity of the produced nanofiber mats, compacted mats with a disc shape were incubated in stimulated body fluid (SBF)at 37 ºC for 6 days. SEM indicated that the incorporation of HAp strongly activates the precipitation of the apatitelike materials because the HAp NPs act as seeds that accelerate the crystallization of biological HAp from the utilized SBF.
Fate of Asymptomatic Limb after Kissing Stents in Aortoiliac Occlusive Disease

Purpose: Kissing stent angioplasty is an established endovascular treatment strategy for stenosis at the aortic bifurcation but not without its detractors. This study aimed to analyze the outcomes of kissing stents with regard to stent occlusion and complications in which an asymptomatic limb was treated. Materials and Methods: A total of 106 patients undergoing aortic bifurcation intervention from January 2015 to November 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Only patients with at least one common iliac artery (CIA) ostium and undergoing bilateral CIA intervention were included in the study. Results: Patients were followed up for a median period of 26 months (interquartile range, 21-51 months). The TransAtlantic InterSociety Consensus (TASC)-II classification of lesions was as follows: A, 49%; B, 41%; C, 6%; and D, 5%. The treatment indication was limited to one side in 53% of patients. Technical and procedural success rates were 99% and 90%, respectively. Ischemic events in an asymptomatic limb occurred in 6% of cases, 3% due to late stent thrombosis >30 days, and 3% due to progression of downstream infrainguinal disease. Primary and secondary patency rates at 1, 3, and 5 years were 98%, 87%, and 85%, and 99%, 94%, and 94%, respectively. Periprocedural mortality developed in two patients with no amputation. Conclusion: Kissing stent deployment is a safe and effective strategy for the treatment of aortoiliac bifurcation disease. Unfavorable outcomes due to stenting in the asymptomatic iliac artery are very rare. Long-term surveillance is necessary due to the risk of late thrombosis or downstream disease progression.

We report the observation of room temperature ferromagnetism in Cu-doped ZnO nanorods prepared by microwave irradiation technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results showed that Cu-doped ZnO comprise a single phase nature with wurtzite structure and Cu ions were successfully incorporated into the lattice position of Zn ions in ZnO matrix. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and TEM micrographs suggested that the size of Cu-doped ZnO nanorods ranges from 50 to 70 nm in diameter and 300 to 400 nm in length, respectively. The selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern infer that the Cu-ZnO nanorods have single phase nature with preferentially growth direction along [0 0 1] plane. Raman scattering spectra of Cu-doped ZnO nanorods revealed the blue shift of <I>E2</I>high mode that is related to the vibration of oxygen atoms in wurtzite ZnO, suggested the successful doping of Cu at Zn site into ZnO. Magnetization measurements showed that the nanorods exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism.
