자끄 마리땡의 『통전적(統全的) 휴머니즘』에 나타난 토미즘의 현재성

네오-토미스트로 널리 알려져 있는 프랑스 철학자 자끄 마리땡(Jacques Maritain1882-1973)은 토마스 아퀴나스의 철학이 “불멸의 철학”(philosophia perennis), 즉, 언제나 살아있는 철학임을 보여주고자 노력하였다. 그의 방대한 저작 가운데 『통전적 휴머니즘』(Humanisme intégral)은 가장 많은 반향을 불러 일으켰고 일으키고 있는 작품이다. 그는 다른 어떤 책에서보다 특별히 이 책에서 토마스의 사상이 현대에 시사성을 가지고 있음을 보여 주고자 했다. 마리땡은 이 책에서 1930년대 위기에 처한 서양의 다양한 체제, 즉, 자본주의, 공산주의, 나치즘, 파시즘에 대한 대안으로 새로운 그리스도교 체제(Chrétienté)를 제안했고 그것의 특징으로 “통전적 휴머니즘”을 제시했다. “그리스도교 체제”란 삶에 대한 그리스도교적 개념을 특징으로 가지는 세속적인 공공의 체제(régime commun temporel)를 가리킨다. “새로운” 그리스도교 체제는 세속적인 질서를 단지 영적인 질서의 수단으로 보았던 중세의 그리스도교 체제와 구분되는 것으로 세속적인 질서의 자율성을 인정하는 체제이다. 마리땡은 이 체제의 특징을 “통전적 휴머니즘”이라고 규정짓는다. 그는 “통전적 휴머니즘”을 통해 인간 본성의 일부를 단절시키거나 왜곡하지 않고, 인간의 모든 차원, 즉, 물질적이고 영적인 차원을 통합적으로 고려하고 인간의 가치를 신과의 단절 속에서가 아니라 연결 속에서 복권하여 진정한 휴머니즘의 가치가운데 빠진 것이 없는 것을 의미한다. 그는 이것을 인간의 자연적 가치를 망각한 중세 문명과 인간중심적인 휴머니즘으로 도리어 비인간화를 초래한 근대문명을 비판하고 문명의 새로운 시대의 대안으로 제시한다. 우리는 이 글에서 『통전적 휴머니즘』을 중심으로 마리땡이 현대문제에 대해 반성하고 숙고하면서 토마스 철학을 어떻게 적용했는지, 또 이것을 통해 토마스 사상의 현재성을 보여주는데 얼마나 성공했는지 검토한다. 이것은 결국 토마스의 사상의 원리를 적용하면서 마리땡 자신이 발전시킨 토미즘의 현재성에 대한 평가로 연결된다. Jacques Maritain (1882-1973), a well known French neo-Thomist endeavored to show that Thomas Aquinas’ philosophy is a philosophia perennis, that is, a philosophy that always is actual. Among his vast amount of works, Humanisme intégral has received most extensive reactions. The book, among Maritain’s works, tried to show that Thomas’ ideas suggest themselves to the modern world. Maritain proposed new Christendom as an alternative to various Western regimes in crisis of his epoch such as capitalism, communism, Nazism, and Fascism and characterized it as integral humanism. Christendom refers to the secular communal regime characterized by the Christian concepts about human life. It distinguishes itself from the Medieval Christendom, which viewed secular orders as only a means to the spiritual order, and acknowledges the autonomy of secular orders. Maritain defined the characteristic of new Christendom as integral humanism. By integral humanism, he means integration of all the human dimensions, both materialistic and spiritual, without separating or distorting any parts of human nature, as well as restoration of human values not in separation from, but in connection with God, without missing any of the true humanistic values. He criticized both the Medieval civilization, which ignored the natural values of human beings, and the modern civilization, which gave rise to inhumanity through anthropocentric humanism, and proposed integral humanism as a new alternative. This article, concentrating on Humanisme intégral, will see how Maritain applied Thomist philosophy to the problems of the modern world. It will also examine whether he succeeded in showing the actuality of the Thomism. These questions will lead to evaluation of the actuality of Thomism that Maritain developed utilizing Thomistic principles.

Impact of Government Intervention on Network of Nongovernmental Organizations: The Case of the Unification Education Council in South Korea

This study aims to capture changes in the activities and structure of the nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) networks due to changes in government policy and funding allocations. We study these dynamics within the context of the Unification Education Council in South Korea using social networks analysis to capture the changes at two-time points; before and after the change of government policy and funding allocation. The findings show that changes in governmental policy and funding to the Unification Education Council resulted in a change of leadership, discontinued memberships, and changes in the nature of activities of the Unification Education Council. The findings imply that NGOs should develop strategies such as diversification of the funding sources and establishment of a network of informal relationships outside of the formal Unification Education Council network to sustain the vulnerability caused by policy changes.

A Study on the Nail Size Measurement of Korean Adult Women-Focused on women in their 20s, 30s and 40s-

Korean nail-beauty is mainly concentrated on women in their 20s and 40s. The purpose of this study is to investigate the structure and characteristics of nails based on the literature and to measure the nail size of adult women in their 20s to 40s as an empirical study. The purpose of this study is to utilize the measurement results as basic data for the standardization of nail size through comparative study with previous studies. For the study method, 150 (50 for each age group) adult female in 20 ~ 40 years with cuticle removed for 30 days from September 17 to October 16, 2017 were measured. As the result, As a result of measurements, the width of the nail was almost similar to that of the researcher. However, the thumb was 1.01 mm longer than the results of the previous researchers. The index nail was 1.12 mm longer, the middle nail was 0.82 mm longer, and the ring nail was 1.3 mm longer than the previous study.

Fault-Tolerant Strategy to Control a Reverse Matrix Converter for Open-Switch Faults in the Rectifier Stage

Reverse matrix converters, which can step up voltages, are suitable for applications with source voltages that are lower than load voltages, such as generator systems. Reverse matrix converter topologies are advantageous because they do not require additional components to conventional matrix converters. In this paper, a detection method and a post-fault modulation strategy to operate a converter as close as possible to its desired normal operation under the open-switch fault condition in the rectifier stage are proposed. An open-switch fault in the rectifier stage of a reverse matrix converter causes current distortions and voltage ripples in the system. Therefore, fault-tolerant control for open-switch faults is required to improve the reliability of a system. The proposed strategy determines the appropriate switching stages from among the remaining healthy switches of the converter. This is done based on reference currents or voltages. The performance of the proposed strategy is experimentally verified.

Design and Implementation of a Reverse Matrix Converter for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives

This paper presents the development of a system with a reverse matrix converter (RMC) for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive and its effective control method. The voltage transfer ratio of the general matrix converter is restricted to a maximum value of 0.866, which is not suitable for applications whose source voltages are lower than the load voltages. The proposed RMC topology can step up the voltage without any additional components in the conventional circuit. Its control method is different from traditional matrix converter’s one, thus this paper proposes control schemes of RMC by means of controlling both the generator and motor side currents with properly designed control loop. The converter can have sinusoidal input/output current waveforms in steady state condition as well as a boosted voltage.
