        Income Distribution and Factors Affecting the Bank’s Stability

        Purpose: Research on banking sustainability plays an important role in helping banks understand the level of risk in different types of companies. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the sustainability of Joint Stock Commercial Banks in Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: The following theories, the factors affecting the bank's sustainability include: Business model diversification (income diversification), bank size, loan ratio, and net interest margin. Data was collected from Joint Stock Commercial banks in Vietnam from 2015 to 2019. With GLS model on panel data with banks listed on Vietnam stock exchange. Results: The analysis results show that net interest income has a positive impact on the sustainable business results of banks through the rate of return on total assets (ROA). The non-interest income hasn’t impact on bank stability. From this result, there aren’t positive signs of income diversification in banks. At the same time, with the obtained results, the study also provides a policy implication for banks. Conclusions: The study also provides some policy implications to improve the bank stability. Diversifying income in banks is necessary, but how to make it influential banks has not yet been done. Therefore, the adjustments in non-interest business activities need to be carefully considered by banks.

      • From Word Explanation to Word Formation in Vietnamese

        영어, 어리사어, 프랑스어등과 같은 다음절 언어에서 문장 속에서 단어의 경계 및 단어구조의 특징을 인식하는 일은 큰 문제가 되지 않고 있다. 형식적 측면에서 각 단어는 구분되어 쓰여지기 때문에 순수하게 형식적인 것에 의지하여도 단어의 경계를 분명하게 인식할 수 있다. 그런데 단음절어이며 분절성을 갖고 있는 베트남어에서 단어의 경계를 확정하는 일은 단어 구조의 특징을 인식하는 일과 마찬가지로 일반적인 형식에만 의지한다면 아주 큰 어려움에 직면하게 된다. 왜냐하면, 글자만 본다면 한 단어와 여러 단어도 각 같은 음절은 같이 쓰여지기 때문이다. 예를 들어, 문장 속에서 “Em không chỉ thích hoa lan, mà còn rất thích hoa hồng.(저는 란을 좋아할 뿐만 아니라 장미도 좋아한다)” 라는 문장에서 <hoa hồng(장미)>는 복합어이고, 한 종류의 꽃을 지칭한다. 그런데 “Hoa trắng đem lại một sự thanh khiết, hoa hồng đem lại một sự âm cúng.(흰 꽃은 순결을, 붉은 꽃은 따뜻함을 나타낸다)”는 문장에서의 <hoa hồng>은 ‘붉은 꽃’으로 단지 붉은 색을 가진 꽃이라는 의미인 것이다. 따라서 형식에만 의거한다면 단어의 경계를 확정하기 어렵고, 그 때문에 베트남어 단어의 구조적 특징을 확정하기가 어려워진다. 게다가 베트남어와 유럽 언어는 단어구조의 단위와 형식이 일정하게 달라서 구조적 측면에서 단어의 특징을 확정할 때 고유한 특징을 갖게 된다. 이 글은 베트남어 형태소의 본질, 베트남어 단어의 구조방식을 분명하게 하는데 있으며, 베트남어 국조 확정을 위한 특징적 방법론에 따른 의미 형식에 근거한 베트남어 단어의 구조를 인식하는 방향을 제시하고 있다.

        Modeling of Doppler Power Spectrum for Underwater Acoustic Channels

        In this paper, we propose a closed-form expression of Doppler power spectrum model for underwater acoustic (UWA) channels. Using the geometry model for shallow UWA channels, we analyze the theoretical background of Doppler effects generated by the transmitter/receiver (Tx/Rx) movement, or by the motion of sea-surface. As a result, the Doppler power spectrum can be modeled as a summation of the Spike-shape and the Gaussian-shape. The Spike-shape presents the Doppler component from the Tx/Rx movement, while the Gaussian-shape presents the Doppler component from the sea-surface motion. The proposed model is validated through curve fitting with the Doppler power spectrum measurement results of a real shallow UWA channel in Halong bay, Vietnam. The optimal parameters of the proposed model are derived from the measurement results by applying an optimization algorithm called the Lp-norm method. The curve fitting results show that our proposed model matches well with the measurements. Therefore, the proposed Doppler model can accurately describe the Doppler effects for shallow UWA channels. The proposed model can be used to design UWA channel simulators for the performance evaluation of UWA communication systems.

        METHODS OF NOMINATION AND THE LINGUISTIC WORLD PICTURE OF VIETNAMESE PEOPLE

        Basing on given research results, we would like to present our idea of the linguistic world picture. By investigating Vietnamese hypotatic compound words, we will prove that: The first, the way that Vietnamese people select thing`s characteristics (through the meaning of extra morpheme) is different from other communities` ways. The second, the selection of thing`s characteristics in nomination process (that is, the meaning of extra morpheme) depends on the “kind” meaning of mean morpheme. The third, Vietnamese people regularly used metaphorical method to nominate things for various language units as morpheme, word and phrase. In this paper, we mainly refer to the way of nomination through hypotactic compound words applied by Vietnamese. Based on the word formatting in Vietnamese such as paratactic combination and reduplication, this research could be developed by analyzing Vietnamese cognition of the world.

        Outcomes of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma: Experiences from a Vietnamese center

        Backgrounds/Aims: Liver transplantation (LT) provides a favorable outcome for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and was launched in Vietnam in 2004. In this study, we evaluated the short-term and long-term outcomes of LT and its risk factors. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed HCC patients who underwent LT at Viet Duc University hospital, Vietnam, from 01/2012–03/2022. The following data were gathered: demographics, virus infection, tumor characteristics, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level, Child-Pugh and MELD scores, selection criteria, type of LT, complications, 30-day mortality, and disease-free and overall survival (DFS and OS). Results: Fifty four patients were included, the mean age was 55.39 ± 8.46 years. Nearly 90% had hepatitis B virus-related HCC. The median (interquartile range) AFP level was 16.2 (88.7) ng/mL. The average MELD score was 10.57 ± 5.95; the rate of Child-Pugh A and B were 70.4% and 18.5%, respectively. Nearly 40% of the patients were within Milan criteria, brain-dead donor was 83.3%. Hepatic and portal vein thrombosis occurred in 0% and 1.9%, respectively; hepatic artery thrombosis 1.9%, biliary leakage 5.6%, and postoperative hemorrhage 3.7%. Ninety-day mortality was 5.6%. Five-year DFS and OS were 79.3% and 81.4%, respectively. MELD score and Child- Pugh score were predictive factors for DFS and OS (p < 0.05). In multivariate analysis, Child-Pugh score was the only significant factor (p < 0.05). Conclusions: In Vietnam, LT is an effective therapy for HCC with an acceptable complication rate, mortality rate, and good survival outcomes, and should be further encouraged.

      • An Improvement of 3D DR/INS/GNSS Integrated System using Inequality Constrained EKF

        It is well known that INS/GNSS integrated system is either unavailable or unreliable in high-rise buildings environment. This study proposes a novel framework to fuse Odometer, INS, and GNSS to provide robust pose estimation for the mentioned challenge. Motivated by the disadvantage of the recent development of 3D DR/GNSS, we relax its assumption where velocities and accelerometer biases are estimated without sensor pre-calibration. In particular, the traditional INS/GNSS and DR/GNSS are augmented into a single system without conflict to perform EKF. Moreover, inequalities-constrained EKF is derived based on the characteristic of the presented system to increase the robustness. This constraint exploits an empirical observable where the position estimation of the odometer is considered more accurate than INS since it only requires one-step integration. The proposed approach is validated through an author-designed Unreal Engine challenging map with the AirSim plugin of an autonomous ground vehicle. The results show a significant accuracy improvement in which the position and velocity error have been reduced respectively 68% and 39% on average over a 0.81km driving.

      • An Adaptive Approach based on Multi-State Constraint Kalman Filter for UAVs

        High accurate and robust motion estimation plays a fundamental role in the autonomous navigation system, especially for Visual Inertial Navigation System (VINS). The consistent of extended Kalman Filter (EKF)-based estimator highly relies on the prior information of the process noise (Q) and the measurement noise (R) covariance matrices. In this paper, we apply an adaptation rule to the well-known Multi-State Constraint Kalman Filter (MSCKF) using innovation and residual information for a monocular VINS that is mounted in a drone. The shortcoming of MSCKF is that the state vector grows as the number of detected features increasing. Since the vision process can give different estimated results due to various error sources such as the ambiguity or the quality of the camera, each epoch should have different weighting factors. Therefore, Q and R covariance matrices should be adapted. It is shown through the simulation that the proposed algorithm has more robustness and accuracy against the conventional approach which has fixed values of Q and R covariance matrices.

        Effect of Scavenging and Protein Supplement on the Feed Intake and Performance of Improved Pullets and Laying Hens in Northern Vietnam

        Two feeding trials were conducted with 128 pullets from 4 to 20 weeks of age and 96 laying hens from 23 to 63 weeks of age to evaluate the effects of scavenging and type of protein supplement on the feed intake and performance of improved pullets and laying hens. The experiments had a completely randomized design with four dietary treatments and four replicates. Treatments were: Control (Cont), scavenging but with access to a balanced concentrate at night; confinement (CF) and given the control feed ad libitum; scavenging and supplemented at night with the control feed, but with soybean meal replaced by cassava leaf meal (CLM); scavenging and supplemented at night with the control feed, but with fishmeal replaced y soybean meal (SBM). The mean daily dry matter (DMI), metabolizable energy (MEI) and crude protein intakes (CPI) of the pullets and laying hens, respectively, were 28%, and 18% higher for the confinement treatment (CF) compared to the scavenging treatments (p<0.001). The DMI, MEI and CPI of the pullets were not significantly different among scavenging treatments (p>0.05), but for the layers DMI, MEI and CPI were significantly higher for the CLM and SBM treatments compared to the Cont treatment (p<0.001). In the growing period, the average daily weight gain (ADG), supplement feed conversion ratio (FCR) and supplement feed cost/kg eggs (FCS) were not significantly different for CF compared to Cont, and among scavenging treatments (p>0.05). In the laying period, the hen-day production was significantly lower, and supplement FCR and FCS significantly higher for the CF compared to the scavenging treatments (p<0.001). Egg weight, and yolk, albumen and shell percentage and shape index were not significantly different among the scavenging treatments (p>0.05). However, shell and yolk percentages were significantly lower for the CF compared to the Cont treatment (p<0.01). Mortality was significantly higher for the CF compared to the scavenging treatments for pullets, and was significantly lower for the CF compared to scavenging treatments for laying hens (p<0.001). It was concluded that scavenging pullets and layers were getting around 28% and 18%, respectively, of their nutrient requirements from scavenging activities, resulting in correspondingly lower supplement feed conversion ratios and feed costs. Daily gains of the pullets were not affected by scavenging or protein supplement, but egg production and mortality were lower for the confined hens.
