IoT botnet attack detection using deep autoencoder and artificial neural networks

( Deris Stiawan ),( Susanto ),( Abdi Bimantara ),( Mohd Yazid Idris ),( Rahmat Budiarto ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2023 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.17 No.5

As Internet of Things (IoT) applications and devices rapidly grow, cyber-attacks on IoT networks/systems also have an increasing trend, thus increasing the threat to security and privacy. Botnet is one of the threats that dominate the attacks as it can easily compromise devices attached to an IoT networks/systems. The compromised devices will behave like the normal ones, thus it is difficult to recognize them. Several intelligent approaches have been introduced to improve the detection accuracy of this type of cyber-attack, including deep learning and machine learning techniques. Moreover, dimensionality reduction methods are implemented during the preprocessing stage. This research work proposes deep Autoencoder dimensionality reduction method combined with Artificial Neural Network (ANN) classifier as botnet detection system for IoT networks/systems. Experiments were carried out using 3-layer, 4-layer and 5-layer pre-processing data from the MedBIoT dataset. Experimental results show that using a 5-layer Autoencoder has better results, with details of accuracy value of 99.72%, Precision of 99.82%, Sensitivity of 99.82%, Specificity of 99.31%, and F1-score value of 99.82%. On the other hand, the 5-layer Autoencoder model succeeded in reducing the dataset size from 152 MB to 12.6 MB (equivalent to a reduction of 91.2%). Besides that, experiments on the N_BaIoT dataset also have a very high level of accuracy, up to 99.99%.

Penetration Testing and Network Auditing: Linux

( Deris Stiawan ),( Mohd Yazid Idris ),( Abdul Hanan Abdullah ) 한국정보처리학회 2015 Journal of information processing systems Vol.11 No.1

Along with the evolution of Internet and its new emerging services, the quantity and impact of attacks have been continuously increasing. Currently, the technical capability to attack has tended to decrease. On the contrary, performances of hacking tools are evolving, growing, simple, comprehensive, and accessible to the public. In this work, network penetration testing and auditing of the Redhat operating system (OS) are highlighted as one of the most popular OS for Internet applications. Some types of attacks are from a different side and new attack method have been attempted, such as: scanning for reconnaissance, guessing the password, gaining privileged access, and flooding the victim machine to decrease availability. Some analyses in network auditing and forensic from victim server are also presented in this paper. Our proposed system aims confirmed as hackable or not and we expect for it to be used as a reference for practitioners to protecttheir systems from cyber-attacks.

        Winch-integrated Mobile End-effector For A Cable-driven Parallel Robot with Auto-installation

        Deri Wang,안정도,정진우,선정안,박종오,고성영,박석호 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.5

A cable-driven parallel robot (CDPR) is a robot in which rigid links are replaced with cables, unlikeconventional serial or parallel robots. The main advantages of a CDPR are a relatively large workspace, highpayload capacity, and high speed. Given the advantages of CDPR, it has recently been widely studied in the field ofmonitoring, construction, cleaning, and even rehabilitation. One of the major disadvantages of using a conventionalCDPR is that the cables should be manually installed to the main frame prior to the operation of CDPR. This task cansometimes be dangerous and requires a heavy workload. This paper describes the development of a planar CDPR inwhich cables can be installed automatically using a winch-integrated end–effector that can move as a mobile robot. In addition, the paper describes a variable power transmission winch that changes the path of a power of actuatorbetween a wheel and a winch. Using this mechanism, the number of main actuators and size of the CDPR canbe significantly reduced. In this work, our first prototype is developed. A series of experiments demonstrates theviability of automatically installing cables using the proposed mechanism.

Engineering and Economic Evaluation of Production of MgO Nanoparticles using a Physicochemical Method

Deri Priatna,Asep Bayu Dani Nandiyanto 한국인터넷방송통신학회 2019 Journal of Advanced Smart Convergence Vol.8 No.4

We conducted research to evaluate economically and engineering about the synthesis of Magnesium Oxide, MgO, nanoparticles using physicochemical methods. The method used was economic evaluation by calculating GPM, BEP, PBP, and CNPV. The other method used was engineering perspective. MgO nanoparticles were synthesized by reacting Mg(NO3)2 and NaOH with a mole ratio 1: 2. Mg(OH)2 formed was heated and calcined to remove water content and to oxidation to form MgO. An economic evaluation by calculating GPM and CNPV for the production of MgO nanoparticles on an industrial scale shows that the payback period (PBP) occur in the third year and profits increase each year. Tax variations show that the higher of tax, the lower profits received. When there was an increase of selling prices, the profit was greater. The variable cost used is the price of raw material. When there was an increased in the variable cost price, the payback period was longer and the profits was reduced. The benefit of this research is knowing the industrial production of MgO nanoparticles is beneficial. The function of MgO nanoparticles is a material for the manufacture of ceramics and can be used as an antimicrobial in the water filtration process.

Concomitant intravascular and extravascular obstructive shock: a case report of cardiac angiosarcoma presenting with pericardial tamponade

        Zuler Mor,Offenbacher Joseph,Deri Yotam,Berzon Baruch 대한응급의학회 2022 Clinical and Experimental Emergency Medicine Vol.9 No.2

Atraumatic pericardial tamponade and intracardiac masses are both recognized etiologies of acute obstructive shock. Pericardial tamponade, is a cardiovascular emergency commonly considered by emergency physicians and, as a result, evaluation for this process has been incorporated into standardized point of care ultrasound algorithms for assessing hypotension. Obstructive shock secondary to intracardiac tumors is an atypical clinical presentation, and although it is evaluated by the same ultrasound imaging modality, it is generally not considered or evaluated for in the emergency department setting. The concomitant presentation of these two pathologic processes is an extremely rare oncologic emergency. Existing literature on the subject is found in a small number of case reports with nearly no prior descriptions in emergency medicine references. In the right clinical context this unique presentation should be considered and evaluated for in the emergency department via point of care ultrasound modality to help guide in the management of the resulting obstructive shock.

Mechanical properties and compatibility of polylactic acid/polystyrene polymer blend

        Hamad, Kotiba,Kaseem, Mosab,Deri, Fawaz,Ko, Young Gun Elsevier 2016 Materials letters Vol.164 No.-

Abstract

In this work, compatibility and stress transfer of polylactic acid/polystyrene (PLA/PS) polymer blends were determined using tensile measurements at room temperature. For this purpose, blend compositions ranging from neat PLA to neat PS, in 25wt% increments, were extruded and molded for tensile tests. The results showed that the blends containing 50wt% and 75wt% PLA exhibited improved mechanical properties (tensile strength and elongation) as compared to neat PS. In addition, the stress transfer calculations of PLA/PS blend revealed that this blend exhibited a higher degree of compatibility compared to other biodegradable polyesters/PS blends.

Highlights

The compatibility between PLA and PS was investigated using mechanical properties.

The blend containing 75wt% PLA showed improved properties compared to neat PS.

PLA/PS blend showed some degree of partial compatibility.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]
