World Exports of New and Used Automobiles: A Gravity Model Comparison among the European Union, Japan and the United States

        Danilo Pelletiere,Kenneth A. Reinert 한국국제경제학회 2010 International Economic Journal Vol.24 No.1

This paper considers new and used automobile exports of the European Union, Japan and the United States within a gravity model framework. This standard framework has similar explanatory power for the new and used automobile exports of the European Union and the United States, as well as for the new automobile exports of Japan, but not for Japan's used automobile exports, a finding the paper associates with the importance of left-hand driving in determining the markets for Japan's used (but not 'made to order' new) automobile exports. The paper concludes that, while used automobiles are somewhat more important to lower income markets, controlling for discrimination and other factors, used automobile trade clearly supplements new automobile trade from the prospective of the importing country.

      • The Sustainable Development Goals And The Dangers of Policy Reductionism

( Danilo De La Rosa Reyes ) 한국정책학회 2016 한국정책학회 추계학술발표논문집 Vol.2016 No.-

On September 25, 2016, world leaders participated in the United Nations Development Summit to forge the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Summit adopted 17 sustainable development goals and 169 targets that are envisioned "to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030." The Sustainble Development Goals (SDGs) perceived to build upon the gains of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) targets launched in 2000 and expired in 2015. This paper provides a cursory assessment and critique of the adoption of the newly-minted SDGs which, as it is, are conceived to address the vexing and complex problematic of poverty, inequalities, health and well-being, and climate change, and several anomalies and issues that are projected to confront nation states and the world order in the coming decades. The paper examines these within the context and framework of the dangers of policy reductionism, which, in philosophical terms, represent a theory, or practice of simplifying a complex phenomenon, idea, or condition to the point of miniming, obscuring or even distorting it.

A comparison on static and fatigue behaviour between traditional and SLM AISI 316L

        Danilo D’Andrea,Andrea Gatto,Eugenio Guglielmino,Giacomo Risitano,Dario Santonocito 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.3

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a novel production process, that allows the creation of lightweight and customizable devices. Such capacity requires a high grade of reliability under the action of service loads, especially under fatigue loads. One of the high-performance steels adopted for selective laser melting (SLM) is the AISI 316L. However, SLM is severally affected by laser beam power and scanning velocity. Mechanical properties must be investigated to provide reliability of final products, but this requires a huge amount of time. On the other hand, energy methods, such as the Risitano’s thermographic method and the novel static thermographic method, by performing stepwise fatigue tests and static tensile tests, can assess the material’s performance by monitoring the energy release. In this work, failure analysis has been performed, showing the differences between the traditional and AM manufacturing process, giving an insight to understand and improve the quality of the AM production process.

Extended Tension Chord Model for Boundary Elements of RC Walls Accounting for Anchorage Slip and Lap Splices Presence

Danilo Tarquini,Joao Pacheco de Almeida,Katrin Beyer 한국콘크리트학회 2020 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.14 No.1

This paper presents a mechanical model for the simulation of reinforced concrete (RC) wall boundary elements with lap splices, which builds on the tension chord model. The model is composed of an assembly of components, each one accounting for a different source of deformation. Namely: (i) an anchorage-slip element accounting for the strain penetration of the longitudinal reinforcement into the foundation; (ii) a basic tension chord element evaluating the response outside the lap splice zone; and (iii) a lap splice element describing the behaviour within the lap splice region. For an imposed global displacement, the model provides the steel and concrete stress and strain distributions, the crack distribution and opening, as well as the global resisting axial force. For spliced members, the ultimate displacement is computed through a semi-empirical relationship providing the average lap splice strain at failure. Validation is carried out against a series of uniaxial cyclic tests on RC wall boundary elements featuring both continuous and spliced reinforcement; different lap splice lengths and confining reinforcement are considered. Overall, a good match is obtained between numerical and experimental results in terms of crack width, rebar strain distribution along the splices and ultimate displacement.

Editorializing in L2: The Case of Philippine English

Danilo T. Dayag 서울대학교 교육연구소 2004 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.5 No.1

This paper examines the discourse structure of newspaper editorials in Philippine English in terms of their macrostructure and their lexico-grammatical features. Data were taken from three leading English-language newspapers in the Philippines. Toulmin’s framework is used in analyzing the macrostructure of the editorials. The study posits that the discourse features of editorials manifest the interactive nature of these texts. Implications of the findings for second language teaching are also discussed.

The effect of undersizing and tapping on bone to implant contact and implant primary stability: A histomorphometric study on bovine ribs

        Danilo Alessio Di Stefano,Vittoria Perrotti,Gian Battista Greco,Claudia Cappucci,Paolo Arosio,Adriano Piattelli,Giovanna Iezzi 대한치과보철학회 2018 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.10 No.3

PURPOSE. Implant site preparation may be adjusted to achieve the maximum possible primary stability. The aim of this investigation was to study the relation among bone-to-implant contact at insertion, bone density, and implant primary stability intra-operatively measured by a torque-measuring implant motor, when implant sites were undersized or tapped. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Undersized (n=14), standard (n=13), and tapped (n=13) implant sites were prepared on 9 segments of bovine ribs. After measuring bone density using the implant motor, 40 implants were placed, and their primary stability assessed by measuring the integral of the torque-depth insertion curve. Bovine ribs were then processed histologically, the bone-toimplant contact measured and statistically correlated to bone density and the integral. RESULTS. Bone-toimplant contact and the integral of the torque-depth curve were significantly greater for undersized sites than tapped sites. Moreover, a correlation between bone to implant contact, the integral and bone density was found under all preparation conditions. The slope of the bone-to-implant/density and integral/density lines was significantly greater for undersized sites, while those corresponding to standard prepared and tapped sites did not differ significantly. CONCLUSION. The integral of the torque-depth curve provided reliable information about bone-to-implant contact and primary implant stability even in tapped or undersized sites. The linear relations found among the parameters suggests a connection between extent and modality of undersizing and the corresponding increase of the integral and, consequently, of primary stability. These results might help the physician determine the extent of undersizing needed to achieve the proper implant primary stability, according to the planned loading protocol.

Neosiphonia ramirezii sp. nov. (Rhodomelaceae, Rhodophyta) from Peru

        Danilo Edson Bustamante,원부연,조태오 한국조류학회I 2013 ALGAE Vol.28 No.1

The genus Neosiphonia Kim and Lee 1999 contains approximately 30 species worldwide. Unidentified samples from Peru are here described as a new species, Neosiphonia ramirezii sp. nov., on the basis of morphological and molecular data. N. ramirezii sp. nov. is characterized by the presence of a limited prostrate system, well-developed erect filaments, rhizoids cut off from pericentral cells by cross walls, four pericentral cells that are completely ecorticate, scarce trichoblasts, inconspicuous scar cells, procarps with three-celled carpogonial branches, spermatangial branches developed from basal cells of forked trichoblasts, and spirally arranged tetrasporangia. Our new species is distinct from N. flaccidissima (Hollenberg) Kim et Lee, N. sphaerocarpa (Børgesen) Kim et Lee, and N. savatieri (Hariot) Kim et Lee from the Pacific temperate coast of South America and from 14 Neosiphonia species reported worldwide by having limited prostrate filaments attached by numerous rhizoids, dichotomous (“Y” shaped) branches in the main axes, and scarce trichoblasts. Phylogenetic rbcL analyses confirm the placement of the new taxon as a distinct species in the genus Neosiphonia.
