The testes are essential for male reproduction. This study examined the proteome of the rat testis using two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). A total of 244 spots corresponding to 141 different proteins were identified and a two-dimensional electrophoresis protein map was established. The resolution of the map was improved using a 2-DE fractionation kit and the proteins of the rat testis were examined more broadly. This database is expected provide useful basic information for a molecular study of normal and pathologic conditions affecting male reproduction.
Effect of 2,3,3',4,4'-Pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB#105) on Rat Testes
Chung-Kil Won,Oh-Sung Park,Dae-yong Han,Phil-Ok Koh,Jae-Hyeon Cho,Eun-Hee Kim,Gon-Sup kim 한국실험동물학회 2007 Laboratory Animal Research Vol.23 No.3
This study was conducted to examine the effect of 2,3,3',4,4'-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB#105) on the reproductive function of male rats. PCB#105 (0.01, 0.1, 0.5 ㎍/㎏/day) in corn oil was orally administrated to adult male rats for 10 weeks. The body and testicular weights, and the serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), were measured at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 weeks of PCB treatment. The morphological changes in the rat testes were than analyzed by light microscopy (LM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that PCBs caused no significant change in the body weights but caused a marked decrease in their testicular weights. A decrease in the serum LH and FSH levels of the PCB-treated rats was also observed. Moreover, the morphological studies that were conducted on the PCB-treated rats revealed that the size of their seminiferous tubules slightly decreased (LM), and that their nuclear membrane was damaged when 0.1 ㎍/㎏/day PCB was administered to them for 10 weeks (TEM). These results suggest that the reproductive function of the adult male rats is sensitive to PCB, and that may affect their LH and FSH secretion.
Synthesis of dispersed CaCO3 nanoparticles by the ultrafine grinding
조국,Dae Sup Kil,Byoung-Gyu Kim,Hankwon Chang,장희동 한국공업화학회 2009 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.15 No.2
A one-step grinding process to obtain CaCO3 nanoparticles from a micrometer-sized CaCO3 was studied. A high-speed beads mill was employed to grind the particles, and poly(acrylic acid, sodium salt) was used to disperse the ground particles. The main parameters, which were investigated, were the slurry concentration, the rotor speed, the bead size, and the surfactant concentration. The larger bead size, higher slurry concentration, and faster rotor speed showed higher grinding efficiencies. However, there was severe agglomeration of the ground particles resulting in larger secondary particles as the grinding time increased after the certain point. The dispersion and enhanced grinding of particles were achieved by the surfactant. The particle size distribution of the ground particles had a narrow peak around 190 nm that was measured by the diffraction method. The primary particle size of the ground particles was around 40 nm. 2009 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
