Background: Atopic dermatitis is a global public health concern owing to its increasing prevalence and socioeconomic burden. However, few studies have assessed the economic impact of atopic dermatitis in Korea. Objective: We conducted a cost analysis of atopic dermatitis and evaluated its economic impacts on individual annual disease burden, quality of life, and changes in medical expenses with respect to changes in health related-quality of life. Methods: The cost analysis of atopic dermatitis was performed by reviewing the home accounting records of 32 patients. The economic impact of the disease was evaluated by analyzing questionnaires. To handle uncertainties, we compared the results with the data released by the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Board on medical costs claimed by healthcare facilities. Results: The direct cost of atopic dermatitis per patient during the 3-month study period was 541,280 Korean won (KRW), and expenditures on other atopic dermatitis-related products were 120,313 KRW. The extrapolated annual direct cost (including expenditures on other atopic dermatitis- related products) per patient was 2,646,372 KRW. The estimated annual indirect cost was 1,507,068 KRW. Thus, the annual cost of illness of atopic dermatitis (i.e., direct+indirect costs) was estimated to be 4,153,440 KRW. Conclusion: The Ann Dermatol annual total social cost of atopic dermatitis on a national level is estimated to be 5.8 trillion KRW. (Ann Dermatol 27(3) 298∼ 305, 2015)

Recently, FCEV has been well known for the low emission and environment-friendly vehicle to the automotive industry. There are many differences between FCEV(Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) and ICEV(Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle). Especially, one of the main differences is cooling system. ICEV is to cool the engine system but FCEV is to cool the stack. For this reason, FCEV cooling system has to complement low outlet temperature of stack and much mass flow rate. On this paper, we have studied the high performance fan motor assembly with integrated controller of stack cooling system for FCEV and evaluated its performance and reliability under the certain test condition. In addition, in an effort to enhance the safety, we add self-diagnosis function to the inverter controller of fan motor. As a result, we have got satisfactory test result and the high performance fan motor assembly with integrated controller is applicable to the stack cooling module for FCEV.

This is a follow-up study by Yoon, Kim, Choi, and Kim (2021). In the current study, the same text as the previous study was machine-translated into English, and then the topics derived through a statistical model, which were compared with the categories derived from the Korean text of the previous study. By doing this, rather than simply evaluating the quality of machine translation, the present study examined 1) the natural language processing model applied to text, 2) the role of human researchers in the process of interpreting the results after fitting the model, and 3) the harmony between human and machine translation, The texts to be analyzed were collected from the liberal arts education tutoring program of D university. A theoretical description of the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model, which is often used for topic modeling, and an explanation of the use of the R library ‘topicmodels’ were added. The analyses revealed a somewhat different pattern of topics from the previous study, and the authors’ interpretation was presented. Finally, while acknowledging the explosive growth of natural language processing and machine translation as a branch of it that cannot be reversed, the room for human translators to complement machine translation was suggested. This study presents a new approach to liberal arts education research by combining data analysis techniques using natural language processing and machine translation discussions.

We introduce a numerical method to solve the two-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation of a single-electron atom under an intense laser field. Instead of a two-dimensional spatial grid, a symmetry basis set of the field-free Hamiltonian is used to represent the wavefunction, which may substantially reduce the computing time. Furthermore, the eigenstates of the atom can be labeled by using the quantum number related to the basis set, which may facilitate the analysis involving eigenstates. As an application of the method, single attosecond pulse generation with a polarization-gated laser pulse is investigated.

Background: Lumbosacral transforaminal epidural injection (TFEI) is an effective treatment for spinal disease. However, TFEI may have several types of complications, some of which can be attributed to intravascular injection. We reviewed studies to compare the intravascular injection rate among different needle types. Methods: We searched the literature for articles on the intravascular injection rate among different needle types used in TFEI. The search was performed using PubMed, MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Web of Science. Results: A total of six studies comprising 2359 patients were identified. Compared with the Quincke needle, the Whitacre needle reduced the intravascular injection rate (OR = 0.57, 95% CI = [0.44-0.73], P < 0.001). However, compared with the Quincke needle, the Chiba needle did not reduce the intravascular injection rate (OR = 0.80, 95% CI = [0.44-1.45], P = 0.46). In one study, the intravascular injection rate using a blunt-tip needle was lower than that using a sharp needle. In another study, the Whitacre and the blunt-tip needle have similar intravascular injection rates, while, the catheter-extension needle showed a reduced intravascular injection rate. Conclusions: This meta-analysis showed that the Whitacre needle reduced the intravascular injection rate as compared with the Quincke needle, but failed to establish that the Chiba needle can decrease the intravascular injection rate in TFEI. Moreover, the blunt-tip needle can reduce the intravascular injection rate compared with the Quincke needle, and the catheter-extension needle can reduce the intravascular injection rate compared with the Whitacre and the blunt-tip needle.

Schizophyllum commune is a mold in phylum Basidiomycota and is an uncommon human pathogen. Sinusitis and allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis are the two major diseases caused by S. commune. Although there have been several reports of invasive fungal diseases, most of them were invasive sinusitis. We present a case of invasive fungal pneumonia due to S. commune, developed in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia presenting neutropenic fever. The diagnosis was made by characteristic macroscopic and microscopic findings of fungal isolate and was confirmed via sequencing of internal transcribed spacer region. The patient was improved after 8 weeks of antifungal therapy based on the susceptibility result. We propose that S. commune should be considered as an emerging pathogen of invasive fungal pneumonia when a patient is under immunocompromised state. We also reviewed global literatures focused on the invasive fungal diseases caused by S. commune.

Recently mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) and two-spotted cricket (Gryllus bimaculatus) have been studied intensively as alternative protein sources. In order to improve the digestion and absorption of edible insect protein, it is necessary to reduce the molecular weight like peptides and amino acids. Therefore, in this study, we obtained low molecular weight hydrolysate extract (HIE) by high pressure processing (HPP) and enzymatic hydrolysis of mealworms and tow-spotted crickets to enhance the bioavailability of edible insect proteins. And the antioxidant and ant-inflammatory properties of insect hydrolysis extract (HIE) were evaluated to determine bioavailability of hydrolysates. 1)HIE had higher radical scavenging capacities than unprocessed insects. In addition, HIE enhanced DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities in LPS-induced Raw 264.7 cells than unprocessed insects. Moreover, 2)HIE treatment significantly reduced LPS-inducible cytokine productions in both transcriptional and post-translational manners cells than unprocessed insects in murine macrophage cells. Therefore, HIE may be delivered effectively to increase their anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties.
