Although Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1)plays a key role in intestinal cholesterol absorption, regulatingcholesterol metabolism and maintaining cholesterolmetabolic homeostasis, the molecular mechanism ofNPC1L1 in lipid-metabolism disorders leading to liverdisease remains largely unknown. Previous studies haveshown that NPC1L1 is related with the development offatty liver. Therefore, we hypothesized that NPC1L1 playsan important role in lipid-metabolism disorders and liverdisease by affecting the transcription of certain genesinvolved in lipid synthesis. To further elucidate the functionof NPC1L1, especially in the liver, we used somaticcellnuclear transfer to establish transgenic pigs thatexpressed human NPC1L1 in their livers. We investigatedsuperoxide dismutase activities and the levels of free fattyacids and malondialdehyde, a biomarker of lipid peroxidation. Superoxide dismutase activities significantlydecreased, and free fatty acid and malondialdehyde levelssignificantly increased in the NPC1L1 transgenic pigs, indicating that the overexpression of NPC1L1 in the liverresulted in severe lipid peroxidation. Our findings suggestthat NPC1L1 plays an important role in lipid-metabolismdisorders and liver disease.

Objective: To explore the clinical effects of nimotuzumab combined with chemotherapy in the treatment of late gastric cancer. Methods: A total of 34 reoccurrence or metastatic patients with late stage gastric cancer who were confirmed by histopathology and/or cytology were selected and randomly divided into observational and control groups, of 17 cases each. Patients in the control group were treated with the standard DCF plan, while patients in observational group additionally received nimotuzumab. The short-term and long-term efficacy and adverse reactions in the 2 groups were followed. Results: The objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were 64.7% (11/17) and 82.4% (14/17) in observational group and 25.0%(4/16) and 37.5%(6/16) in the control group(ORR and DCR between 2 groups, ${\chi}^2=5.2412$, P=0.0221 and ${\chi}^2=6.9453$, P=0.0084). The median progression-free survival (PFS) time and median overall survival (OS) time were 6.50 months and 12.50 months in observational group and 4.50 months and 8.25 months in the control group (P=0.0212; P=0.0255). The main toxic and side effects in the 2 groups were reduced leukocytes and hemoglobin, gastrointestinal reactions and hair loss and these were relieved after symptomatic treatment and nutrition support therapy. There were no differences in the occurrence of toxic and side effects between the 2 groups. Conclusions: Nimotuzumab combined with DCF plan is effective in treating late stage gastric cancer. A larger scale study is now warranted for confirmation of the findings.

The bioactivity-guided fractionation of chloroform extracts of the fruit bodies of Hypsizigus marmoreus led to our isolation of $(22E,24R)-ergosta-7,22-diene-3{\beta},5{\alpha},6{\beta}-triol$ (1), $ergosterol-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ (2), $5{\alpha},8{\alpha}-epidioxyergosta-6,22-dien-3{\beta}-ol$ (3), hypsiziprenol $A_9$ (4), hypsiziprenol $AA_8$ (5), hypsiziprenol $AA_9$ (6) and hypsiziprenol $BA_{10}$ (7). Among these seven isolates, compound 2 was identified for the first time from this plant. All compounds (1-7) exhibited moderate cytotoxicity towards cultured human colon carcinoma (HT-29), human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) and human hepatoblastoma (HepG-2) cell lines.
A Study on Improvement of Ball Screw System Positioning Error with Liquid-Cooling
Xu, Zhe-Zhu,Liu, Xiao-Jing,Choi, Chong-Hun,Lyu, Sung-Ki 한국정밀공학회 2012 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.13 No.12
The demand for higher productivity and tight part tolerances requires machine tools to have faster and more accurate feed drive systems. As tried and tested technology, ball screw drive systems are still used in a majority of machine tools due to their low cost and high degree of stiffness. A high-speed ball screw drive system generates more heat and results in greater positioning error, adversely affecting the accuracy of machined parts. In this paper, we discuss the placement of a liquid-cooling system using water, coolant oil, light oil and cutting oil as coolants in a ball screw shaft to avoid thermal errors and achieve temperature equilibrium faster. In order to estimate the positioning error and thermal distribution of the ball system and effectiveness of the liquid-cooling system, all possible heat gain-loss sources were analyzed and considered calculation factors. The following paper also presents degree of positioning error improvement when a circulation liquid-cooling system and forced liquid-cooling system were employed. When comparing the predictions and the experimental results, we can see very significant cooling performance and a high degree of consistency between prediction and reality.
INVOLUTION-PRESERVING MAPS WITHOUT THE LINEARITY ASSUMPTION AND ITS APPLICATION
Xu, Jin-Li,Cao, Chong-Guang,Wu, Hai-Yan The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2009 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.27 No.1
Suppose F is a field of characteristic not 2 and $F\;{\neq}\;Z_3$. Let $M_n(F)$ be the linear space of all $n{\times}n$ matrices over F, and let ${\Gamma}_n(F)$ be the subset of $M_n(F)$ consisting of all $n{\times}n$ involutory matrices. We denote by ${\Phi}_n(F)$ the set of all maps from $M_n(F)$ to itself satisfying A - ${\lambda}B{\in}{\Gamma}_n(F)$ if and only if ${\phi}(A)$ - ${\lambda}{\phi}(B){\in}{\Gamma}_n(F)$ for every A, $B{\in}M_n(F)$ and ${\lambda}{\in}F$. It was showed that ${\phi}{\in}{\Phi}_n(F)$ if and only if there exist an invertible matrix $P{\in}M_n(F)$ and an involutory element ${\varepsilon}$ such that either ${\phi}(A)={\varepsilon}PAP^{-1}$ for every $A{\in}M_n(F)$ or ${\phi}(A)={\varepsilon}PA^{T}P^{-1}$ for every $A{\in}M_n(F)$. As an application, the maps preserving inverses of matrces also are characterized.

Purpose: While several prognostic models for the stratification of death risk have been developed for patients with advanced gastric cancer receiving first-line chemotherapy, they have seldom been tested in the Chinese population. This study investigated the performance of these models and identified the optimal tools for Chinese patients. Materials and Methods: Patients diagnosed with metastatic or recurrent gastric adenocarcinoma who received first-line chemotherapy were eligible for inclusion in the validation cohort. Their clinical data and survival outcomes were retrieved and documented. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and calibration curves were used to evaluate the predictive ability of the models. Kaplan-Meier curves were plotted for patients in different risk groups divided by 7 published stratification tools. Log-rank tests with pairwise comparisons were used to compare survival differences. Results: The analysis included a total of 346 patients with metastatic or recurrent disease. The median overall survival time was 11.9 months. The patients were different into different risk groups according to the prognostic stratification models, which showed variability in distinguishing mortality risk in these patients. The model proposed by Kim et al. showed relative higher predicting abilities compared to the other models, with the highest χ2 (25.8) value in log-rank tests across subgroups, and areas under the curve values at 6, 12, and 24 months of 0.65 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.59-0.72), 0.60 (0.54-0.65), and 0.63 (0.56-0.69), respectively. Conclusions: Among existing prognostic tools, the models constructed by Kim et al., which incorporated performance status score, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, alkaline phosphatase, albumin, and tumor differentiation, were more effective in stratifying Chinese patients with gastric cancer receiving first-line chemotherapy.

Chinese bayberry fruit is a rich source of anthocyanins, especially cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G). The present study investigated the protective effects of C3G-rich bayberry fruit extract (CRBFE) against pancreatic b cells against oxidative stress–induced injury as well as its hypoglycemic effect in diabetic mice. Bayberry extract from ‘‘Biqi’’ was used for both in vitro and in vivo testing because of its high C3G content and high antioxidant capacity. Pretreatment of b cells with CRBFE (containing 0.5 lmol/L C3G) prevented cell death, increased cellular viability, and decreased mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production and cell necrosis induced by 800 or 1200 lmol/L H2O2. CRBFE dose-ependently up-regulated pancreatic duodenal homeobox 1 gene expression, contributing to increased insulin-like growth factor II gene transcript levels and insulin protein in INS-1 cells. In addition, adminitration of CRBFE (150 lg of C3G/10 g of body weight twice per day)significantly reduced blood glucose in streptozotocin-induced diabetic ICR mice and increased the glucose tolerance in an oral glucose tolerance test (P < .05). Such results indicated that CRBFE might be useful in prevention and control of diabetes mellitus and diabetes-associated complications.
