      • Shear behavior of steel reinforced concrete shallow floor beam: Experimental and theoretical study

        Yang Chen,Chong Ren,Yuqing Yuan,Yong Yang 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.44 No.5

This paper reports experimental investigation on shear behavior of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) shallow floor beam, where the steel shape is embedded in concrete and the high strength bolts are used to transfer the shear force along the interface between the steel shape and concrete. Six specimens were conducted aiming to provide information on shear performance and explore the shear bearing capacity of SRC shallow floor beams. The effects of the height of concrete slab, the size and the type of the steel section on shear performance of beams were also analyzed in the test. Based on the strut-and-tie model, the shear strength of the SRC shallow floor beam was proposed. Experimental results showed that composite shallow floor beam exhibited satisfactory composite behavior and all of the specimen failed in shear failure. The shear bearing capacity increased with the increasing of height of concrete slab and the size of steel shape, and the bearing capacities of beam specimens with castellated steel shape was slightly lower than those of specimens with H-shaped steel section. Furthermore, the calculations for evaluating the shear bearing capacity of SRC shallow floor beam were verified to be reasonable.

      • Experimental study on fatigue behavior of innovative hollow composite bridge slabs

        Yang Chen,Zhaowei Jiang,Qing Xu,Chong Ren 국제구조공학회 2023 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.46 No.6

In order to study the fatigue performance of the flat steel plate-lightweight aggregate concrete hollow composite bridge slab subjected to fatigue load, both static test on two specimens and fatigue test on six specimens were conducted. The effects of the arrangement of the steel pipes, the amplitude of the fatigue load and the upper limit as well as lower limit of fatigue load on failure performance were investigated. Besides, for specimens in fatigue test, strains of the concrete, residual deflection, bending stiffness, residual bearing capacity and dynamic response were analyzed. Test results showed that the specimens failed in the fracture of the bottom flat steel plate regardless of the arrangement of the steel pipes. Moreover, the fatigue loading cycles of composite slab were mainly controlled by the amplitude of the fatigue load, but the influences of upper limit and lower limit of fatigue load on fatigue life was slight. The fatigue life of the composite bridge slabs can be determined by the fatigue strength of bottom flat steel plate, which can be calculated by the method of allowable stress amplitude in steel structure design code.

Comparison of the Nutritional Composition of Bullfrog Meat from Different Parts of the Animal

        Yanli Zhu,Min Bao,Chong Chen,Xiaoli Yang,Wenliang Yan,Fazheng Ren,Pengjie Wang,Pengcheng Wen 한국축산식품학회 2021 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.41 No.6

The objective of this study was to evaluate the nutritional content of bullfrog meat from different parts of the animal, including fore-chest, thigh and calf. Bullfrog meat was found to be a rich source of proteins, essential amino acids and minerals, but with a low fat content, compared with other aquatic meat products. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) between thigh and calf in mineral content (K, P, Na, Mg, Ca, Zn, Fe, Cu, and Mn), but the contents of K, P, and Mg were higher in thigh and calf than in the fore-chest (p<0.05). The salt-soluble, water-soluble and insoluble protein bands in sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) electrophoresis, from fore-chest, thigh and calf were similar, with the most abundant bands being 35 kDa (salt-soluble protein), 35-48 kDa (water-soluble protein) and 48 kDa (insoluble protein). The results showed that the insoluble protein content in the fore-chest meat was higher than that in the thigh meat and calf meat, but the salt-soluble protein fraction was the most abundant in thigh meat. These results showed that the nutrients in different parts of bullfrog meat were different.

      • Relationship Between Expression of Gastrokine 1 and Clinicopathological Characteristics in Gastric Cancer Patients

Xiao, Jiang-Wei,Chen, Jia-Hui,Ren, Ming-Yang,Tian, Xiao-Bing,Wang, Chong-Shu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.11

The aim of the study was to clarify the role of gastrokine 1 in the process of formation and development of gastric cancer. The expression of gastrokine 1 in gastric cancer and corresponding non-cancerous gastric tissues of 52 gastric cancer patients was assessed with the real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry. We also analyzed the relationship between the expression level and clinicopathological characteristics. Gastrokine 1 gene and protein expression in gastric cancer tissues was in both cases significantly lower than in corresponding non-cancerous gastric tissues (both P<0.01), but no significant relationship was found with clinicopathological parameters including tumor location, depth of invasion, differentiation, lymph node metastasis, stage, gender, age and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) level in peripheral blood preoperation of patients (P>0.05, respectively). Furthermore, gastrokine 1 gene expression was markedly lower in gastric cancer tissues of Helicobacter pylori (HP)-positive patients than negative ones (P<0.05). The result of the study showed that gastrokine 1 might play a significant role in the process of formation and development of gastric cancer as an anti-oncogene. Its effect might be weakened by HP infection.

Numerical Studies of the Rotational Stiff ness of Purlin–Sheeting System

        Feiliang Wang,Hanwen Zhang,Jian Yang,Li Bai,Chong Ren 한국강구조학회 2018 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.18 No.3

In light-gauged steel purlin-to-sheeting roof systems, the attached sheeting can provide rotational restraints to the purlin. The magnitude of the additional rotational stiff ness off ered by the sheeting will aff ect the load bearing capacity of the purlin. The current design method in Eurocode3 (EC3) is less accurate in predicting the purlin–sheeting rotational stiff ness as it neglects the eff ect of wall thickness of the purlin. An integral model is introduced based on the fi nite element method. Comparisons are made between numerical results and existing experiments and a good agreement is observed. Parametric studies are conducted based on the validated model to investigate the infl uences of geometric dimensions on the rotational stiff ness. Two modifi ed coeffi cients are proposed for calculating the rotational stiff ness based on the codifi ed formulae in EC3, where the eff ect of the wall thickness and the fl ange width of the purlin are both considered.
