      • Correlation between skeletal and dental changes after mandibular setback surgery-first orthodontic treatment

        Objective: To investigate skeletal and dental changes after application of a mandibular setback surgery-first orthodontic treatment approach in cases of skeletal Class III malocclusion. Methods: A retrospective study of 34 patients (23 men, 11 women; mean age, 26.2 ± 6.6 years) with skeletal Class III deformities, who underwent surgery-first orthodontic treatment, was conducted. Skeletal landmarks in the maxilla and mandible at three time points, pre-treatment (T0), immediate-postoperative (T1), and post-treatment (T2), were analyzed using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-generated half-cephalograms. Results: The significant T0 to T1 mandibular changes occurred ?9.24 ± 3.97 mm horizontally. From T1 to T2, the mandible tended to move forward 1.22 ± 2.02 mm, while the condylar position (Cd to Po-perpendicular plane) shifted backward, and the coronoid process (Cp to FH plane) moved vertically. Between T1 and T2, the vertical dimension changed significantly (p < 0.05). Changes in the vertical dimension were significantly correlated to T1 to T2 changes in the Cd to Po-perpendicular plane (r = ?0.671, p = 0.034), and in the Cp to FH plane (r = 0.733, p = 0.016), as well as to T0 to T1 changes in the Cp to Poperpendicular plane (r = 0.758, p = 0.011). Conclusions: Greater alterations in the vertical dimension caused larger post-treatment (T2) stage skeletal changes. Studying the mandibular position in relation to the post-surgical vertical dimension emphasized the integral importance of vertical dimension control and proximal segment management to the success of surgery-first orthodontic treatment.

        자가 산부식 프라이머의 세포독성에 관한 실험적 연구

        자가 산부식 프라이머는 세포독성이 있는 것으로 알려져 있어 교정치료를 하는 동안 치주조직에 손상을 일으킬 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 자가 산부식 프라이머가 치주조직에 미치는 영향을 평가해 보고 이를 전통적인 접착법에 사용되는 프라이머와 비교하기 위하여 시행되었다. 시편은 임상에서 브라켓 접착 시 사용하는 Transbond XT Adhesive (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA)를 각각 Transbond XT Primer (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA), Clearfil SE bond (Kuraray, Osaka, Japan), Transbond Plus Self Etching Primer, Adper Prompt L-Pop (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA)과 혼합한 후 광중합하여 제작하였고, Transbond XT Adhesive를 중합한 대조군과 비교하였다. 이를 배양된 HGF-1 (Human Gingiva Fibroblast), HaCaT (Human Keratinocyte cell line), RHEK (immortalized Human Epidermal Keratinocyte)에 노출시킨 후 세포의 형태 변화를 관찰하였고, MTT assay를 시행하여 세포독성을 비교, 평가하였다. 실험결과 72시간 후 HGF-1, HaCaT, RHEK를 이용한 실험에서 모든 프라이머의 세포독성이 높게 나타나 세포 돌기의 위축, 세포 형태의 변화, 세포 수의 감소, 세포의 괴사가 관찰되었다. MTT assay실험 시 HGF-1을 이용한 실험에서 Clearfil SE Bond, Transbond XT Primer, Transbond Plus SEP, Adper Prompt L-Pop의 순으로 세포독성이 높게 나타났고, HaCaT를 이용한 실험에서 Clearfil SE Bond, Adper Prompt L-Pop, Transbond Plus SEP, Transbond XT Primer의 순으로 세포독성이 높게 나타났으며, RHEK를 이용한 실험에서 Clearfil SE Bond, Transbond XT Primer, Adper Prompt L-Pop, Transbond Plus SEP 순으로 세포독성이 높게 나타났다. 자가 산부식 프라이머는 전통적으로 사용되는 프라이머와 마찬가지로 세포독성이 유의하게 높으므로 구강내 사용시 주의가 필요하다. Objective: Several ions and components are released from self-etching primers in the oral cavity. This may cause injury to the periodontal tissues throughout orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to assess the cytotoxicity of self-etching primers to HGF-1 , HaCaT, and RHEK cells. Method: Transbond XT Primer (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA), and self-etching primers, Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray, Osaka, Japan), Transbond Plus SEP (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA), and Adper Prompt L-Pop (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA), were evaluated by MTT assay, and cellular changes were also observed, Results: In all cells after 72 hours with all primers, severe morphological changes such as atrophy and necrosis were observed. In the MTT assay using HGF-1, Clearfil SE Bond, Transbond XT Primer, Transbond Plus SEP, and Adper Prompt L-Pop were lined up in order of ascending cytotoxicity. When using HaCaT, Clearfil SE Bond, Adper Prompt L-Pop, Transbond Plus SEP, and Transbond XT Primer were lined up in order of ascending cytotoxicity. When using RHEK, Clearfil SE Bond, Transbond XT Primer, Adper Prompt L-Pop, and Transbond Plus SEP were lined up in order of ascending cytotoxicity Conclusion: The result of this study shows that care is needed because self-etching primers show cytotoxic properties similar to conventional primers.

        뇌수막종에 대한 고식적 방사선 치료 : 7예 치험보고 Experience of 7 Cases

        Meningiomas had long been considered radioresistant and therefore the role of radiation therapy in its treatment remains controversial. Lately, however, most of the retrospective analysis of meningiomas indicates that radiation therapy does show some degree of beneficial effects not only for malignant but also for benign meningiomas with the advanced technology and increased amount of radiation therapy, the rate of growth of tumor had been successfully slowed and local recurrence rate is also reduced following subtotal resection. We have performed conventional high dose radiation therapy on 7 cases of meningiomas (four cases of meningotheliomatous meningiomas, and three cases of malignant meningiomas). Of the 7 cases, the residual mass of 6 had decreased in size and neurological improvement was also evident. However, the 7th case resulted in complicated hydrocephalus. These cases are presented and the effect of conventional radiation therapy is discussed together with the review of literatures.

        The topic of subliminal stimulation has recently been explored by various new media and consumer publications, and subliminal stimulation is also the basis of three books by Wilson Bryan Key. They have renewed attention in subliminal advertising community regarding this activity has been nonexistent. Rebuttal from the advertising community regarding this activity has been nonexistent. and one could reasonably wonder why. A study of the effect of subliminal advertising seems necessary. Certain accusations have been made that advertisers are creating advertisings which contain subliminal embeds. The implication is that such methods invade consumer's subconsciouses and intrude on their purchase decisions. The main themes of the analysis are : 1. the effect of subliminal advertising on an individual's behavior(Emotional Responce, Cognitive Reponce, Purchase Intention), 2.the effect of subliminal stimulation's information on an individual's behavior. The results do not show that subliminal advertising affects on indivibual's behavior in analysis 1. In analysis 2, the results do not show that subliminal stimulation's information affects on Cognitive Responce and purchase Intention. But on Emotional Responce, the result show the effect of subliminal stimulation's information.

        재발한 희돌기 교세포종에 대한 BCNU-CDDP 연속정주 화학요법

        Eight patients with recurrent oligodendroglioma were treated with 1.3-bis(2-chloroethyl) nitrosourea(BCNU) and CDDP continuous infusion chemotherapy. They were 5 with benign oligodendrogliomas and 3 with anaplastic oligodendrogliomas. All the recurrent tumors had been treated with surgery and radiotherapy. Four patients had already received chemotherapy with ACNU. Seven of them showed response to continuous infusion chemotherapy. The time from the response to progression was 15 to 67 weeks. No severe complication of the chemotherapy was found. In conclusion, BCNU-CDDP continuous infusion chemotherapy is an effective treatment modality in recurrent oligodendrogliomas.

        두개강내로 전이된 Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma 2례 : 증례보고 Report of Two Cases

        The authors describe two cases of unusual intracranial metastatic adenoid cystic carcinomas. A 42-year-old woman had a right pariental epidural metastatic mass. presumed hematogenous. spread from a primary tumor in the parotid gland. In second case, a 32-year-old man had a intracranial metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma mimicking calcified psammomatous meningioma on CT scans. We present these unusual cases with a review of relevant literature and a discussion of possible pathogenesis.

        실험적 백서 9L Gliosarcoma 뇌종양 모델 개발

        Experimental brain tumor model is essential for the development of new therapeutic modalities of brain tumors and evaluation of efficacy of each therapeutic variety. Authors developed experimental rat brain tumor model with 9L and C6 cell line in Fisher rat using stereotactic method. We tried to determine the tumor occurrence rate, the ideal time for secondary experiment using this brain tumor model. and the duration between the onset of neurological signs and the time of expiration. We performed autoradiography for each cell line to evaluate the reliance of the tumor model. We could make good tumor model in all the cases of experiment and expect to use it in another extension of experiment.

        The tendency of glioblastoma to metastasize to the cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) is well documented, reaching approximately 20% in autopsy series. Nevertheless, clinical symptoms from spinal seeding seem to be infrequent or are at least rarely diagnosed. The authors report a case of 41-year old female patient with a cerebral glioblastoma multiform who developed paraplegia due to a pathologically confirmed spinal matastasis.

        <P>Intracellular Vitamin C (VC) is maintained at high levels in the developing brain by the activity of sodium-dependent VC transporter 2 (Svct2), suggesting specific VC functions in brain development. A role of VC as a cofactor for Fe(II)-2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases has recently been suggested. We show that VC supplementation in neural stem cell cultures derived from embryonic midbrains greatly enhanced differentiation toward midbrain-type dopamine (mDA) neurons, the neuronal subtype associated with Parkinson's disease. VC induced gain of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) and loss of H3K27m3 in DA phenotype gene promoters, which are catalyzed by Tet1 and Jmjd3, respectively. Consequently, VC enhanced DA phenotype gene transcriptions in the progenitors by Nurr1, a transcription factor critical for mDA neuron development, to be more accessible to the gene promoters. Further mechanism studies including Tet1 and Jmjd3 knockdown/inhibition experiments revealed that both the 5hmC and H3K27m3 changes, specifically in the progenitor cells, are indispensible for the VC-mediated mDA neuron differentiation. We finally show that in Svct2 knockout mouse embryos, mDA neuron formation in the developing midbrain decreased along with the 5hmC/H3k27m3 changes.
