Childhood Sexual Abuse and Cortical Thinning in Adults With Major Depressive Disorder

Objective A growing body of evidence reports on the effect of different types of childhood abuse on the structural and functional architecture of the brain. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the differences in cortical thickness according to specific types of childhood abuse between patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and healthy controls (HCs). Methods A total of 61 patients with MDD and 98 HCs were included in this study. All participants underwent T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging, and the occurrence of childhood abuse was assessed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. We investigated the association between whole-brain cortical thickness and exposure to any type of childhood abuse and specific type of childhood abuse in the total sample using the FreeSurfer software. Results No significant difference was reported in the cortical thickness between the MDD and HC groups nor between the “any abuse” and “no abuse” groups. Compared to no exposure to childhood sexual abuse (CSA), exposure to CSA was significantly associated with cortical thinning in the left rostral middle frontal gyrus (p=0.00020), left (p=0.00240), right fusiform gyri (p=0.00599), and right supramarginal gyrus (p=0.00679). Conclusion Exposure to CSA may lead to cortical thinning of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which is deeply involved in emotion regulation, to a greater extent than other types of childhood abuse.

International Vertical Integration and Economic Growth

Korea's trade patterns with U. S. in industrial products are remarkably different from those with Japan. Korea has been running deficits visa vie Japan every year since mid 1960s, whereas she has been running surpluses visa vie U. S. during the same period. These trade patterns can be a manifestation of an international vertical integration between Korea and Japan. with U. S. acting as a third country. Thus since 1960s Korea has been buying capital goods developed and produced in Japan to manufacture final goods. This arrangement allowed Korea to achieve economic growth as rapid as that of Japan. as she was able to tap into the advanced technology developed in Japan. Korea's faster growth then can be partly explained by the catch up effect. Here U. S. offered huge markets in which Korea was able to sell the final goods produced with Japanese technology. This paper explains these observed trade patterns with an endogenous growth model where an international vertical integration promotes more rapid economic growth not only for the advanced country, but also for the developing country.

교육서비스 분야의 국제개발협력에 관한 연구 : 교육서비스의 수출을 위한 조건

The objective of this study is to establish the strategies of international development cooperation for transfer the experience of Korea's development through reviewing the case of international development cooperation in fields of educational services sector. The education is a valuable production in knowledge based society, and it is a key for national development as well as investment of the future. The contents are to a) review of educational services sector, b) the case of international development cooperation, c) the case of international development cooperation in Korea, d)strategies for international development cooperation. The advanced countries, such as Germany, Australia, New Zealand, think education service sector is a leading key factor and strategy in the knowledge based society. Korea have a successful model as aspect international assistance program with economic development plan. This development experience is known for good case for contribution as successful model of developing countries. Therefore, it is necessary for international development cooperation to implement with strategic, which is contributed to international society. 본 연구는 글로벌시대에 활발하게 추진되고 있는 교육서비스 분야의 국제개발협력을 고찰하고, 이를 통하여 새로운 국제개발협력의 방향을 교육시스템의 해외진출이라는 측면에서 모색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적에 따라 교육서비스산업의 현황, 주요국가의 사례 및 시사점, 한국의 사례 등을 살펴보았으며, 이러한 사례를 통해서 지식의 전수라는 관점에서 교육의 해외진출을 위한 국제개발협력의 전략을 제시하였다. 향후 국제개발협력은 첫째, 한국의 장단점을 살릴 수 있는 분야를 중심으로 하며, 둘째, 연구기관, 대학 및 인적자원을 활용하고, 셋째, 철저한 사전조사를 실시하여 시행착오를 줄이며, 넷째, 국제개발협력에 관한 전문성을 강화하고, 다섯째, 국제적인 연구동향 및 네트워크를 강화하며, 마지막으로 특별기금 등 재원을 확보해야 할 것이다.

<P>Here we show the formation of the complex between a DNA aptamer and a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) and its reaction with its target protein. The aptamer, which is specifically bound with thrombin, the target protein in this study, easily wraps and disperses the SWNT by noncovalent pi-pi stacking.</P>

Recently, as the number of families raising dogs has increased, cases of lost dogs have frequently occurred. According to US statistics, 5% of the total dogs are reported to be alive, with only 18% reporting to their owners. Therefore, a device for preventing the loss of dogs is needed, and the demand for the market is rapidly growing. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a lost device for dogs. In this paper, we developed a loss prevention device that combines low-power broadband wireless communication technology, LoRa communication method, and GPS positioning technology. The result of this study is expected to prevent the loss of dogs. It is also expected that social problems will reduce the problem of lost dogs.

한국 성인에서 간접흡연노출과 우울증상 간의 상관관계

Objectives The aim of this study is to investigate the association between secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure and depressive symptoms among Korean adults. This study also explored the mediating role of self-rated health (SRH) and perceived usual stress (PUS) in the association between depressive symptoms, suicidal ideation and SHS exposure. Methods Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES) in 2014 and 2016 was analyzed for 10539 participants aged 19 years or older. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated in the logistic regression analysis with adjustment for the potential confounding factors. We also adopted the mediation analysis method by Hayes and Preacher. Results After adjusting for the potential confounding factors, SHS at home and at public places were associated with depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation among non-smokers. After adjusting for the potential confounding factors, SHS at home and at public places was associated with depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation among non-smokers. Meanwhile SHS at workplaces was associated with depressive symptoms among former smokers and with suicidal ideation among current smokers. There was an additive effect of SHS on depressive symptoms only among non-smokers. SRH mediated the association between SHS and depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation among non-smokers. We did not observe any significant mediating effect of SRH nor PUS on the association between SHS and depressive symptoms among former and current smokers. Conclusions SHS may be associated with depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation in Korean adults. Our study elucidated how SHS interacted with depressive symptoms among non-smokers through the mediation by SRH.
