Substructural parameters and dynamic loading identification with limited observations
Bin Xu,Jia He 국제구조공학회 2015 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.15 No.1
Convergence difficulty and available complete measurement information have been considered as two primary challenges for the identification of large-scale engineering structures. In this paper, a time domain substructural identification approach by combining a weighted adaptive iteration (WAI) algorithm and an extended Kalman filter method with a weighted global iteration (EFK-WGI) algorithm was proposed for simultaneous identification of physical parameters of concerned substructures and unknown external excitations applied on it with limited response measurements. In the proposed approach, according to the location of the unknown dynamic loadings and the partially available structural response measurements, part of structural parameters of the concerned substructure and the unknown loadings were first identified with the WAI approach. The remaining physical parameters of the concerned substructure were then determined by EFK-WGI basing on the previously identified loadings and substructural parameters. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed approach was demonstrated via a 20-story shear building structure and 23 degrees of freedom (DOFs) planar truss model with unknown external excitation and limited observations. Results show that the proposed approach is capable of satisfactorily identifying both the substructural parameters and unknown loading within limited iterations when both the excitation and dynamic response are partially unknown.

The doped quantum dots (QDs) that feature dual emission in one nanocrystal and long fluorescence lifetime have gained great interest in biosensing and bioimaging applications. In this work, we report the synthesis and functionalization of copper ion-doped indium phosphate (Cu:InP) QDs that exhibit simultaneous green InP emission and red Cu2+ emission. The oil-soluble QDs were synthesized by adsorbing Cu2+ onto InP core, followed by growing zinc selenide (ZnSe) shell via the successive ion layer adsorption reaction. During the synthesis, fluorescence ratiometry (and resultant multiple fluorescence colors) can be generated by changing either the dopant amount or the shell-growth time, but they act in a different manner: increasing the Cu2+ amount results in quenched InP emission and oppositely improved Cu2+ emission; the increase of shell-growth time leads to continuously improved Cu2+ emission relative to constant InP emission. Further, functionalization of the oil-soluble Cu:InP QDs with dihydrolipoic acid-polyethylene glycol (DHLA-PEG) via ligand exchange produces the water-soluble and biocompatible dual-emission QDs. The PEGylated Cu:InP QDs present desirable charge neutrality and excellent thermal stability and photostability, thereby holding high potential in a diversity of biomedical applications.
Trade, FDI, and International Technology Diffusion
Xu, Bin,Wang, Jianmao 세종대학교 국제경제연구소 2000 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.15 No.4
This paper examines international trade and foreign direct investment as channels for technology diffusion among industrialized countries. We find strong empirical support for capital goods trade as a channel for international technology diffusion and some evidence that multinational enterprises (outward FDI) transmit foreign technology back to the home country. We find no evidence that inward FDI is a significant channel for international technology diffusion among industrialized countries. Our results also show that technology diffuses in disembodied forms, with countries that are farther from the world technology frontier benefiting more.

Objective: Individual studies of the associations between P53 codon 72 polymorphism (rs1042522) and bladder cancer susceptibility have shown inconclusive results. To derive a more precise estimation of the relationship, we performed this systemic review and meta-analysis based on 15 publications. Methods: We used odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the strength of the association. Results: We found that there was no association between P53 codon 72 polymorphism and bladder cancer risk in the comparisons of Pro/Pro vs Arg/Arg; Pro/Arg vs. Arg/Arg; Pro/Pro plus Pro/Arg vs. Arg/Arg; Arg/Arg vs. Pro/Arg plus Arg/Arg (OR=1.06 95%CI 0.81-1.39; OR=1.06 95%CI 0.83-1.36; OR=0.98 95%CI 0.78-1.23; OR=1.06 95%CI 0.84-1.32). However, a significantly increased risk of bladder cancer was found among Asians in the homozygote comparison (Pro/Pro vs. Arg/Arg, OR=1.36 95%CI 1.05-1.75, P=0.790 for heterogeneity) and the dominant model (Arg/Pro plus Pro/Pro vs. Arg/Arg, OR=1.26 95%CI 1.05-1.52, P=0.564 for heterogeneity). In contrast, no evidence of an association between bladder cancer risk and P53 genotype was observed among Caucasian population in any genetic model. When stratifying for the stage of bladder, no statistical association were found (Pro/Pro vs. Arg/Arg, OR=0.45 95%CI 0.17-1.21; Pro/Arg vs. Arg/Arg, OR=0.60 95%CI 0.28-1.27; Dominant model, OR=0.56 95%CI 0.26-1.20; Recessive model, OR=0.62 95%CI0.35-1.08) between P53 codon 72 polymorphism and bladder cancer in all comparisons. Conclusions: Despite the limitations, the results of the present meta-analysis suggest that, in the P53 codon 72, Pro/Pro type and dominant mode might increase the susceptibility to bladder cancer in Asians; and there are no association between genotype distribution and the stage of bladder cancer.

Background Sinonovacula constricta is an economically important bivalve species in China, Korea and Japan that widely resides in estuarine and coastal areas where salinity fluctuates rapidly. However, little is known about its adaptation mechanisms to acute salt stresses. Objective To reveal the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in acute salt stresses in juvenile S. constricta. Methods Nine cDNA libraries (triplicate each trial) were established from juvenile S. constricta, which were subjected to low salinity (5 psu), optimal salinity (15 psu) and high salinity (25 psu) for 6 h, respectively. Results Illumina sequencing generated 478,587,310 clean reads totally, which were assembled into 427,057 transcripts of 246,672 unigenes. Compared with the control, 1259 and 2163 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified under acute low and high salt stresses, respectively. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses of DEGs revealed that several key metabolic modulations were mainly responsible for the acute salt stresses. According to the significantly highlighted KEGG pathways, some key DEGs were identified and discussed in details. Notably, based on which, some potential osmolytes were further speculated. Conclusion Here, we carried out a unique report of comparative transcriptome analyses in juvenile S. constricta in response to acute salt stresses. The identified DEGs and their significantly enriched GO terms and KEGG pathways were critical for understanding and further investigating the underlying the physical and biochemical performances, and ultimately facilitated S. constricta breeding. Besides, the transcriptome data greatly enriched the genetic information of S. constricta, which were valuable for promoting its molecular biology researches.
