        Determination of the Optical and the Thermal Properties of an Absorbing Medium by Using Infrared Thermometry

        Spatiotemporal changes in the surface temperature of an absorbing medium irradiated by using 532-nm laser pulses were measured using an infrared camera. Relevant numerical simulations of the heat transfer equation were performed. The simulations showed that the maximum temperature increase was linearly proportional to the absorption coefficient with no dependence on the thermal conductivity and that the decay time constant depended on both the absorption coefficient and the thermal conductivity. The absorption coefficient and the thermal conductivity of the medium were determined by fitting the simulated results for the maximum temperature increase and decay time constant to the measured results.

        한·일 연예매니지먼트 산업의 비교 연구

        본 연구는 최근 콘텐츠 산업의 핵심 제작 주체로 주목을 받고 있는 연예매니지먼트사의 선진화 방안을 도출하는 것을 연구목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 연예매니지먼트사 현황과 문제점에 대해 면밀히 분석하고 선진화 시스템 구축 방안 마련을 위한 한일 비교 연구를 통해 시사점을 도출하였다. 첫째, 조직 내 전문화시스템을 구축하여 효율적으로 고부가가치를 창출할 수 있는 전문 조직화가 필요하다. 둘째, 사업 다각화 전략 시스템을 구축하여 스타의 인기 하락과 시장에서의 성공 여부에 따라 경영이 좌우되는 문제점을 해결할 수 있는 다양한 비즈니스 모델 개발이 필요하다. 셋째, 지상파 방송사의 우월적 지위로 인한 불공정거래 개선 및 건전한 방송산업 발전을 위해 방송사와 제작사 간의 구도적 균형이 맞춰질 수 있는 선순환구조의 상생환경 구축이 필요하다. 넷째, 관련 협·단체와 정책 당국의 지속적인 시장 정화 노력을 통한 연예매니지먼트산업의 건전한 육성 발전이 필요하다. The purpose of this study is to draw the measures for advancing entertainer’s management companies who are focused as a core production subject of the recent contents industry. To achieve it, current situation and problems of entertainer’s management companies were minutely analyzed and their implications were drawn through the comparative study between Korea and Japan for preparing the measures to establish advanced system. The first, specialized systemization which can establish specialized system in organization and create highly added-value efficiently is necessary. The second, it’s necessary to develop various business models which can establish business diversified strategy system and solve problems that management depends on star’s popularity and their success in market. The third, it’s necessary to establish win-win environment of virtuous cycle which can provide the structural balance between broadcasting company and production company for the improvement of unfair business caused by prominent status of ground-wave broadcasting company and development of health broadcasting industry. The fourth, it’s necessary to promote and develop entertainer’s management industry through the continuous market-purifying efforts of related organizations and political authorities.

        콘텐츠 산업의 성장에도 불구하고 산업 내 기업들은 자생력을 갖추고 있지 못하다. 이에 따라 콘텐츠 산업에 대한 투자 확대를 위해 돈이 모일 수 있는 구조를 형성하고, 부족한 내실을 키우기 위해서는 정책적 진흥의 노력도 필요하겠지만, 우선은 민간 금융권의 유입이 필요하다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 관련 산업의 발전을 뒷받침하는 금융투융자 현황에 대한 분석과 함께 콘텐츠 가치평가를 연계한 금융투융자 활성화 방안에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다. Despite the growth of the content industry, companies in the industry are not self-sustaining. As a result, it is necessary to make efforts to promote the promotion of the policy industry in order to build up a structure for collecting money for the expansion of the investment in the contents industry and to build up a lack of sufficient room. For this purpose, this study provides an analysis on the status of financial investment companies that support the development of related industries, and suggests ways to revitalize financial investment trusts that link with the evaluation of contents value.

      • The Role of Postsplenectomy Reactive Thrombocytosis in Advanced Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

        Objective: Thrombocytosis as part of paraneoplastic syndrome has been associated with poor ovarian cancer survivals. During maximal cytoreductive surgery in advanced ovarian cancer, about 30% of patients has splenectomy to achieve optimal cytoreduction. About 75% of individuals without myeloproliferative disorders develops thrombocytosis after splenectomy in general population. However, the incidence of thrombocytosis after splenectomy and its role on survival in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer is still unclear. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study using data from Samsung Comprehensive Cancer Center, Seoul, Korea (January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2017). We identified patients who were diagnosed with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer and had splenectomy during primary debulking surgery. Results: Eighty nine patients were eligible for this study. Median age was 55 years (33-79) and pretreatment CA 125 was 870.3 U/mL (8.8-16719). 74.2% (66/89) and 25.8% (23/89) was FIGO stage IIIC and IV, respectively. 56% of patients showed thrombocytosis on postoperative day 7 after splenectomy. Preoperative platelet count was 307 K/μL (121-671) and postsplenecomty platelet count on day 7 was significantly increased at 502 K/μL with a range of 116-1029 K/μL (P < 0.001), which is 70% increase on average. When we divide the entire cohort into two groups (< 70% increase, group 1 vs. ≥ 70% increase, group 2), there is no difference in progression free survival (P = 0.584) and overall survival (P = 0.700). In multivariate analysis adjusting stage, level of residual disease, CA 125, and age, platelet counts changes after splenectomy did not affect the survival outcomes (PFS; HR 1.027 95%CI 0.637 - 1.656, OS; HR 1.328 95%CI 0.654 - 2.695). No difference in thromboembolic events was also observed between groups. Conclusion: As opposed to thrombocytosis related with paraneoplastic syndrome, postsplenectomy reactive thrombocytosis does not affect survival outcomes in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.

        Design Improvement and Measurement of a Rapid Single Flux Quantum Confluence Buffer

        Rapid Single flux quantum (RSFQ) confluence buffer is widely used in complex superconductive digital circuits. In this work, we have improved the currently used confluence buffer and obtained a more soundly designed confluence buffer. In simulations, improvements in the bias margins of 11 % and the global margins of 10%, compared to the previously used confluence buffer, were achieved. Global margins are very important in estimating a process error range allowed in fabrications. We used two circuit simulation tools, WRspice and Julia, to design and optimize the confluence buffer. We used Xic to obtain a mask layout. We fabricated the improved circuits by using Nb technology. The test results at low frequency showed that the improved confluence buffer operated correctly and had a very wide main bias margin of +/-43% enhanced from +/-26% of the previously used confluence buffer.

        Studies on the induction of pregnancy and the number of fetuses during pregnancy in rats

        This study used adult wistar-based rats to observe the sexual cycle as a morphological characteristic of vaginal epithelial cells by vaginal smearing, and investigated the fetal number through mating with male rats of the same strain. The target animal was a 12 to 13-week-old Wistar-based mature unlighted rat (weight 220 g to 240 g), room temperature 23 ± 2℃, 14 hours artificial lighting (05:00 to 19:00 hours), 10 hours Adapted individuals were used for rearing for at least 2 weeks under the conditions of the darkroom (19:00 to 05:00). The feed was managed for free feeding of pellet feed for animals and water. The vaginal smearing method was used for the experiments by observing the sexual cycle every morning and confirming that the normal sexual cycle of 4 or 5 days was repeated at least 2 cycles or more. As a result, the proestrus was found to have few red blood cells, the cells and nuclei were rather large and round, and many nucleated cells were identified. In the case of the estrus, the cells were large and the nuclei were not stained, and most of the keratinocytes were found. In addition, in the metestrus and diestrus, there were many white blood cells, and it was confirmed that nucleated epithelial cells and keratinocytes were significantly reduced. The pregnancy period was 21 ± 1.8 days, and the number of live births per delivery was 11.9 on average. The number of fetuses on the 8th and 10th days of pregnancy were 15.2 ± 0.4 and 15.4 ± 0.3, respectively. On the contrary, the number of fetuses on the 12th day of pregnancy was 12.9 ± 0.6, which was significantly (p < 0.05) decreased compared to the 10th day of pregnancy, and the number of fetuses was similar until delivery. As a result of investigating the change of body weight according to the birth weight and growth stage after delivery, the birth weight of female and male was 9.2 ± 2.0 g and 9.8 ± 2.5 g, respectively. After that, until the 16th day, the female and the male showed similarly moderate weight gain, and then showed a rapid weight gain until the 21st day of lactation. With reference to the results of this study, it is expected to be used as basic data for determining the mating time of rodents and controlling pregnancy and fetal number.

      • Fabrication of an initially-focal-conic cholesteric liquid crystal cell without polymer stabilization

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystal (LC) cell with the focal-conic initial state is demonstrated. Although dye-doped LC/polymer composites have been widely used for LC light shutters, dye-doped LC cells with polymer structures suffer from the degradation of dichroic dyes during the UV curing process. To avoid this problem, we propose a dye-doped cholesteric LC cell using vertical alignment layers instead of polymer structures. We have shown that the focal-conic initial state can be obtained by homeotropic anchoring without the polymer structure. The proposed device not only provides the black color but can also hide objects behind a display panel in the focal-conic initial state without the degradation of dichroic dyes.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We propose a dye-doped cholesteric LC cell using vertical alignment layers. </LI> <LI> The proposed device provides black color and hides objects behind a display panel. </LI> <LI> The focal-conic initial state can be obtained without the degradation of dyes. </LI> </UL> </P>

        The Acceptance or Rejection of Syngeneic Murine Tumor Transplantability in C57BL/6 Mice

        16.7% rejection of wild-type Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) 1×10⁶ cells in syngeneicC57BL/6 mice by s.c, injection in the axillary region was observed, even 50.8% rejection with 1×10⁵ cells injection. To address this question, the well-characterized LLC model was chosen for this study. The growth of LLC in syngeneic C57BL/6 mice is accompanied by a weak and transient antitumor cytotoxic response that is later replaced by tumor-enhancing activity, which is correlated with the generation of suppressor cells in LLC-bearing mice. For the rejection of syngeneic tumor transplantation, ultimately "spreading" of the T cell immune response to novel antigenic epitopes needed. In summary, these in vivo transplant studies demonstrate that syngeneic tumor cell transplantation can potentiate the immune response.
